Pours deep dark brown, appears black when in the glass. Thick tan head that lingers and leaves generous lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and piney hops. Flavor follows the nose; finish is dank and bitter. Feel is medium bodied and well carbonated. Overall, a fine beer.

Pours black with a thick, dense khaki head, excellent retention, thick bands of lace.
Aromas of roast, ash, grapefruit flesh, and a bit of resin
Tastes like it smells
Medium bodied and appropriately carbonated
Not my favorite Black IPA, but it's really good. Definitely on the edge of Black IPA and hoppy porter/stout.

Pours black with a medium head which dissipates quickly but leaves some nice lacing on the surface. Smell is mostly black malt with a little hops. Nice black malt through the middle. Hops in the finish but the lingering bitterness in the finish is mostly from the roasted malt. It's a solid black IPA, which is a style I like.

For a brew that obviously has roasted barley malt as a main ingredient, this pours foamy from two twelve ounce pint cans into a clear glass liter mug. The foam is biege, resting on top of a colored liquid usually found in stouts and porters. It's close to being black coffee brown. But, the aroma is far more hoppish than those and it overpowers the roasted malt character, at least for the nose. Unlike some foamy pours, this one takes its time receding and it leaves a sticky glass lacing. Still, it's irregular, rather than reducing evenly. This drinks like a hybrid between a porter and IPA, basically as an IPA with a roasted malt character. That's not a bad mix, as there's as much bittering from the roasting as there is from the hops. Overall, this isn't too hoppy for any stout lover. Also, the roasted aspect shouldn't be too much for hop loving IPA affectionatos. Of course, the proverbial problem is that by trying to please the many, you risk pleasing none and that may apply here. This is an ambitious and pleasant attempt to marry two distinct styles and in that regard, it works. But it severely reduces the chances of it excelling in any single style ratings. Overall, it's somewhat unique, but doesn't provide enough taste excitement to be highly recommended.

Canned 5/11/22; drank 10/6/22 @ the Yarchives.

Opaque dark brown appearance.

A violent pour yielded a huge tan head; a thick curtain of tree-rung lace.

Medium roast coffee beans, raspberry, mild fresh earth & faint cream notes in the nose. Smells great!

Medium mouthfeel.

Medium roast coffee bean & fresh earth flavors up front; faint raspberry notes on the finish.

A surprisingly fruity black IPA; the nose trumped the flavors but overall, a good beer.

Pours deep ebony nearing on black with ruby edges. The foamy, thick head lasts a long time. Molasses, cocoa and citrusy, floral hops in the nose. Tropical, peach hop notes abound in the taste. Dark chocolate and roasted malts in there too. Sweetness lingers and makes the mouthfeel a little cloying. Medium to light bitterness and lingering sweetness in the finish.

A nice Black Ale but a bit on the sweet side. I find that with all of this brewery's offerings.

Poured black with a two finger frothy tan head that lingered like a milkshake. Lots of lacing was present. Nose was a bit piney and citrusy. Roasted malt forward with a quick transition to piney bitter hops. Moderate body and carbonation.
