Pours a very dark red with an inch of tan head. This lingers for a minute then leaves a pretty lace along the edge.

Figs, raisins, and brown sugar in the nose with just a hint of vanilla

Very strong dark belgian candy note with tangy fruit esters. Smooth and delicious mouthfeel that bodes well and lingers just enough coating the tongue and tastebuds. Very complex caramel characters and a slight biscuity note.

This is truly a treat to drink and the 8.5% is well hidden. The finish is super sharp and dry with a lingering fig character on the palate.

Pouring this beer and the head rises to two fingers high. It's a brownish color that is pretty bubbly. The color of the beer is a blood red or a burnt red color. It's very clear you can see right through it pretty easily. The aroma is a malty candy smell and it's pretty big. I can smell it a couple of feet away from my beer. I also pick up some alcohol raisin notes. My initial taste I get a fig, plum character also I picked up on a nut like flavor as well. Subsequent tastings a yeasty or a doughy feel mixed in with a brown sugar like quality is also present as well as a mild floral hoppy note but it is really in the back ground. The finish is a slight cloying taste with a mild bitterness or alcohol bite. Overall, I really find myself enjoying this beer a lot. It is a sipping beer that goes well with a cold winter night.

This dark belgian is brewed with 8 malts, Belgian candi sugar, cinnamon, vanilla bean, dried local black mission figs and aged in oak barrels. Now this wasn't the first time I have had this beer- I have been enjoying it since it has come out but I have finally been able to take some notes on it last weekend. It poured a dark mahogany. It smelled like cinnamon, prunes, dates and some cereal malts. It tasted like caramel, roasted malt, figs, stewed raisins, molasses and some cinnamon spiciness. Ironically this beer is quite light bodied for 8.3%. It goes down easily and with much enjoyment on my part. Kudos!

A - Pours a dark mahogany-brown color with a finger of frothy khaki colored head. The head fades down fairly slowly leaving behind some good lacing.

S - Aroma is a mix of sweet dark fruits with some cinnamon and other spices, vanilla, oak, Belgian yeast, and a bit of booze.

T - Starts off with some figs and other dark fruit sweetness with some cinnamon, vanilla, and caramel. Through the middle, some oak and more Belgian yeast flavor comes through with some more spices and a bit more vanilla. The finish is mix of sweet dark fruits, vanilla, cinnamon, Belgian yeasts, and a bit of booze.

M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a sweet, spicy, and warming finish.

D - Very drinkable. Very nice BSDA. I like the cinnamon and vanilla flavors alongside the Belgian yeast and dark caramel malts.

Due to a winter cold that wont go away I am unable to smell this beer but will review on the senses that are still available.

The color of Monks blood is dark amber/brow, fairly opaque and instyle with a dark Belgian. I would have liked to see a really deep red color instead of a brown (with the names "Monks Blood') and really wanted the raisin taste from Dingimans Special B malt which also gives a rich red color.

The head is lacking. I expect a rich hearty two finger head and even when pouring almost half the can from a 90 degree angle, I am left with litter more than a thin white ring around my chalice.

The taste is sweet and complex, figs hitting the back of the tongue in the aftertaste. Very malt and candi sugar forward. Light hops, almost none detectable.

Very light on the mouthfeel. Not too heavy, not thick like a stout or porter, and espically since the alcohol level is fairly high (8.3%abv) the syrupy maltiness in most high abv beers is not there, only a crip clean dark ale.

I especially enjoy dark Belgian ales and find this one of the better lower priced varietys that is constantly delicious and always hits the mark.

I also really like 21st Amendments canning process. They are bringing back the can and putting craft beer in it. Respect!

Poured from can into a Chimay glass.

A - Muddy, murky reddish brown. A thick, but shallow head, a very light golden color that quickly dissipates.

S - cherries, figs, raisins, oak. The fruits would be nice without the oak odor, which almost smells partly burned.

T - What lacks in smell, is made up for with the taste. The oak and cherry really compliments each other. Maybe even a touch sour. I'm really into the flavors this is putting out. Wow.

M - Quite a bit of carbonation. Medium body. Nice.

D - Certainly not a session beer, but it's also not intended to be. A very good "take your time" beer. I may have to run out and buy more before it's sold out.

a dark burgundy colored pour with 2 fingers of off white head. smells of grapes, alcohol, pecan, vanilla, strawberry. a very bitter sweet fruity mouthful! a hint of cherries, grapes, nuts, figs, a bit of dirt bitterness.. almost like drinking tree sap! medium bodied, nicely carbonated, light amount of creaminess. this is an overall hell of a beer. i wish it were a bit less carbonated and more syrupy on the mouthfeel, but i'll live. glad i got 3 more of these to savor throughout the next few months.

Fairly dark brew, dark cherry color when held to the light. Thin head fades.
Sour cherries, vanilla, some hints of spices like cinnomon, canndied fruits, and light waffs of oak barrel. Great nose on this one.
Vannila bean flavors blend with cherries, faint sour, some cinnomon too. Not a big grain or hop profile however some hints are present. Great complexity, very distinct flavors. Sweet flavors knocked down with sour. Nice clean brew.
Heavy mouthfeel, especially when aggitated. Syrupy feel but not too over the top.
This one didn't disapoint. Great pairing of sweet and sour from a belgian ale. Proves great craft beer does come in a can.

Appearance - e beautiful looking beer, much like a dry stout.

Smell - Smells like jesus muffins. chocolate, cinnamon, molasses, and a tiny bit of malt.

Taste - A bit of a vanilla rush at 1st that gives way to an oak-like chocolate taste, then rolls out into a Belgian Style ale. A big taste, but not overpowering. very well balanced. I am totally impressed. some other dominant taste too, but can't put my dick on it.

mouthfeel - Just when you curl up in a ball in the corner of your bedroom, the beer comes to you and says "It's okay, i'll never overpower you, taste how smooth and inviting I am." Very smooth sweet and creamy for a belgian style ale.

Drinkability - for such a high ABV (8.3) the drinkability is very good. I could waste 4 cans of this stuff and still want more. 21st Ammendment is on to something.

A very dark, muddy mahogany with a thin ring of creamy head that lingers well and leaves nice lacing. The smell is of dark fruits and brown sugar. Sweet smelling with ripe banana and belgian yeast. prune, raisin, dark cherry, vanilla, carmaels, oak and cinnamon. Sweet caramels, vanilla, a touch of chocolate, dark fruits, canamon, brown sugar, and a touch of earthy tones. Very sweet. Delicious. Medium bodied and very drinkable.
