Notes/Commercial Description:
Like FDR’s Depression-era radio addresses, which were like a kick in the butt and a hug at the same time, our Fireside Chat is a subtle twist on the traditional seasonal brew. We begin with a rich, dark, English-style ale and then we improvise with spices until we know we have a beer worth sharing with the nation.

Fireside Chat is our early winter seasonal brew available from October through December in six pack cans and on draft. Brewed like a classic, warming Strong Ale but with a subtle blend of hand-selected spices for just the right festive flair.

I love the artwork on this can! Hopefully, the beer does the artwork justice. I poured this one into a shaker pint.

Appearance- The cap manages a half-finger and has decent retention, beige in color. The body is an extremely dark brown with just the slightest amount of auburn highlights.

Smell- A little bit of toasted malt and some sweet grain are what come out the strongest. There is some mild spice and a little vanilla that are poking through.

Taste- Talk about winter warmer, first noticeable spice and malt combo is very much a gingerbread cookie in a glass. However, there is an unpleasant bitter hop or burnt malt in the finish that overwhelms whatever good will this beer started with.

The malt is toasted, and there is a slight nuttiness into mid-drink. There is also a slight metallic tang every couple of sips. Just when it starts to get good, one aspect or another brings it back down a bit.

Mouth feel- It is a nice medium body, but a little too carbonated. Otherwise, it is pretty meh. It could have been helped with a creamier feel.

Overall- It is hard to dislike, and recommend this beer at the same time. Aspects of this beer, like the gingerbread cookie aspect and the nose, to a certain extent, are good qualities.

But the mouth feel, and metallic taste detract from what is going on.

A: Nice mahogany color - reddish brown, and almost garnet-like when held to light. Definitely filtered - no visible sediment or haze. Slight light tan head.

S: Not a whole lot of scent - faint nutmeg, cinnamon and black pepper on top of some brown sugar-like malts. Smells like a lighter version of a really tasty winter warmer.

T: A bit of a metallic tinge was the first thing that hit my tongue. Followed by a mellow brown ale sort of flavor with hints of the spices that I observed in the scent.

M: Texture is good - decent body and carbonation. Doesn't seem quite as thick as you'd think for a beer with nearly 8% ABV.

O: Not a bad brew, but not something I'd rush back to try. It made me miss better winter warmers (eg. Old Fezziwig).

Can poured into tulip.
I dont understand this...it says its from Minneapolis on the can??

Looks almost like a stout, but when held up to light you can see a bit of red. Thick foam, gone in a few minutes, but leaves nice lacing.
Smells of sweet malts and a bit of spicy yeast.
Nice sweet smokey malts with a bit of spice. I like that its not overly spiced. Hint of vanilla and coffee with pine/spruce in the aftertaste. Feels a bit overly carbonated, but just being picky...
I dont know why this got such bad reviews? Its a very good winter warmer. Not heavy and not overly spiced, but enough so you know the season..in case you forget...
its well worth a try.

First beer at our beer tasting tonight.

A: Poured into a mug. Black until you put it up to the light, then it becomes deep red around the edges. Pours a 3 finger head tan head that fades very quickly with very little retention.

S: Lots of sweet malt backed by dark fruits.

T: Follows the nose, sweet malt with dark fruits mixed in. No real alcohol warmth or even any presence of added spices. Not a bad thing but not what I expected.

M: Thick mouthfeel. Long finish.

O: I could drink this on a cold day. It didn't happen to be cold on this day even though it is December 6th in central PA. Solid beer.

Received as an extra in a recent trade. (Cheers!)
Poured from 12oz can into imperial pint glass.

Aroma: Caramel, apple, cinnamon, vanilla, and clove. Sweet and spicy.

Appearance: Dark brown, relatively clear, brown body with a ruby tinge. One finger of light tan foam, which leaves decent lacing.

Flavor: Spice, baked apple, orange peel, rich malt, smoke, mineral, and hoppy bitterness. Not too bad.

Mouthfeel: Medium-high carbonation, medium body, and a bit of a slick feel on the palate.

Overall: Again, not a bad beer, and definitely one that I would finish off. That said, not an amazing brew by any means, and not one that I'd seek out.

Appearance is deep, dark brown; almost black. Very thick head with sticky lacing.

Nose is spicy with sweet malt and candy apple.

Taste has a lot of dark fruit and dates. Buttery malt and a decent hop presence. Spices are not overwhelming, clove is the most notable.

Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. Medium-mild carbonation with a nice spice warmth.

Overall, a unique and fulfilling winter warmer.

Pours a very dark ruby color that's pretty much brown with mahogany edges and a two finger light beige head that slowly settles into lasting ring. Streaks of soapy lacing left behind.

Very spicy aroma with lots of dark fruit and slightly roasted malts. Potpourri like with flower petals, cinnamon, brown sugar and clove. The spices really overpower the aroma in an unpleasant way but underneath there is some dark fruit and others berries.

Medium bodied with a harsh, overly aggressive spice presence that lingers over the sweeter notes into a acrid, bone dry finish. Lots of potpourri spice with bark, cinnamon, pepper, ginger and clove which creates an unpleasant dry flavor that dominates. Underneath there us some sweet malt and dark fruit along with a syrupy, medicinal character. This beer is overly spice but also cloyingly sweet. Just all over the place and a bit if a mess.

12oz can poured into a pint glass
A: Very dark brown, with a lingering 1/2 finger head
S: Lots of cooking ingredients, especially ginger, brown sugar, and cloves.
T: Does not come near the level of the nose- quite disjointed. Some roasted malts and spice, but lacks coherency.
M: Medium-bodied but the disjointedness of the flavors don't let it show its full potential.
O: Based on other reviews there may be some bottle variation going on here, and unfortunately mine was not one of the better ones. This beer has a lot of potential, but doesn't pull it together.
