13oz pour at 21st Amendment served very cold in a chalice. The first beer of an epic beer new year's eve.

Real dark brown, nearly black, with touches of red-brown highlights. Served with one finger standard Porter colored head; not real retentive, but sticky.

Roasted malts with chocolate leanings. Dark fruit with a Belgian twang. Deep cocoa powder with a brick dust thing going on. The Belgian yeast is one of those with a super nose clearing cleaner or minty character.

Slight dark sour cherry. The yeast comes through like some sort of plastic. Normal Porter fare: milk chocolate, robust roast, cherry. Something metallic and bark.

Very active, fizzy carbonation and a thin body.

Decent drinkability. I was pretty full already and the fizz is filling. A decent standard Porter with some off notes where the Belgian yeast failed.

Review dated 11/21/2010. On tap at 21st Amendment.

Good appearance on this one - clear dark brown with a two-finger khaki head sitting on top.

Nice roasty aroma, slightly charcoaly with dark chocolate notes and hops evident.

The flavor is also very roasty with dark chocolate. The only drawback is a very slight plasticky flavor.

A little thin on the palate, although it has a good ashy dryness to it.

Overall a decent but not great porter.

On-tap at 21A

A: The pour is a dark brown color with reddish hints and a tan head.

S: This beer reeks of roasted malt, smoke, ash, and more roasted (burnt) malts for good measure. A bit of a burnt, over-roasted coffee thing, too.

T: As bad as the nose was, it got worse. This one tastes like an ashtray. Burnt malts, ash, spent cigarettes, and some subtle coffee and chocolate flavors.

M: The body is medium and so is the level of carbonation.

D: Another awful beer from 21A. Just nothing really nice to say about this one.

Sampled 11/13/2010 at the brewpub.

Pours black/brown, pretty clear, tan head, decent lacing but the head dies down quickly.

Aroma is heavily roasted, some caramel, chocolate, thin/lager-like.

Flavor is much like a dunkel lager with lots of roast and nuttiness in it. Robust porter. Not much Belgium to be found here. Medium CO2, large bubbles.

Body is medium with a touch of drinkability.

Tick.
