12oz can poured into a tulip.

Appearance is a clear medium ruby with a thin head. Good lacing.

Smells is piny hops with some caramel malt underneath. Some dark fruit is also detectable.

The flavor is piney hops up front quickly followed by dark fruit. A roasted/chocolate maltiness underlies it all followed by a drying bitterness that is quite aggressive. Mouthfeel is a tad bit thin.

Overall this is a decent beer and a unique one. I'll enjoy the rest of my 4 pack but probably won't get again.

A: Pours a deep ruby red with a light mocha head.

S: Dark fruits and light, but not citric fruits in the nose.

T: Lemon, some resiny pine, dark fruits to start followed by bready malt in the finish. Interesting. Definitely different from English or American barleywines.

M: Full bodied and smooth.

O: Worth a try. It's a good beer, and if nothing else, it's interesting. I've tasted few beers that taste quite like this.

A perfectly suitable ESB, if on the hoppier side and perhaps just a tad thin in the mouth. You do get the classic biscuity notes, and maybe not so much of the copper tinge you'll often find in the English ones. A bit sharper in the hops department, but not overly so. The only real problem here is the strength- it doesn't really add anything to the experience here but some alcohol- both in flavor and in strength. Really, why bother?

Canned 10/26/2011

Grabbed a single for a very reasonable price. Ran upstairs with the can in my coat pocket. It exploded when I opened it.

Pours foggy brown with some orange. Minimal head and lacing.

Nose is a big sweet malt bomb. Loads of caramel, candied fruit, heavy syrup, stone fruits, a bit of piney hops.

Lots of sweetness in taste. Dark fruits (dates), some woody character, alcohol, floral hoppy notes, mild bitterness.

Big body, nearly syrupy with the sweetness. Low carbonation.

A tasty brew overall. Plenty of strength and sweetness with a full body to stand on.
