I'm always excited to try an oyster stout. A part of me is always hoping to find some weird stout with an odd taste of salty oysters...as if that would somehow taste good. Every time though, I am disappointed. Let's see how this does...

A-Very dark brown with a nice thin tan head

S-faint scent of chocolate dark roasted malts with maybe an imagined scent of saltiness.

T-Eh, once again I'm disappointed. It isn't a bad stout at all though. It comes in with a good flavor of chocolatey grains. It's an authentic and natural flavor that really hits the spot. the after-taste is matching with MAYBE, just maybe a hint of brinyness, but it might just be my hopeful imagination. It's a solid stout though. Maybe a slight metallic flavor to it

M-medium creamy carbonation with a creamy finish

O-This is a really good stout despite failing to meet my expectation. It's got good, solid flavor and it's very drinkable. It bridges the gap between Imperial and not. I'd recommend it to others, I'm sure it's something I could have a lot of.

poured from the can into a standard pint glass. canned on date 11/19/12. interesting. a previous reviewer had one from 12/12, are them some old ones making the rounds recently or is thise by design?

Looking pretty good, jet black with a less than 1/2inch oatmeal head.

Getting malts on the nose, but not heavily roasted. age related perhaps? Did get some faint hits of licorice and caramel.

Tasty brew. I avoid shellfish, so have no idea what oysters taste like. This is quite a hearty beer. malts, dried fruit, sweetness.

mouth is a tad below medium. flavor certainly hangs around for a while.

Overall, an enjoyable beer. How would it taste fresher? If I come across one again, I'll give it a try.

Old. Canned Dec 2012. Should you age this? I don't know. I did though. Accidentally.

Looks nice. Dark and black. Little lacy froth. A nice dark brown froth. A good froth.

Nose is wacky. Raisiny and sweet. From the age? maybe.

Taste is pretty good. Some chocolate. Some raisin. Some rum. Some espresso. No oyster.

Feel is like a thin syrup. Kinda weird but I kinda like it.

Need to compare to fresh. But with 1.5y of age on it (in a can) it's still a decent stout.

A: appears black with some caramel like tones as you approach the edge of the glass, tan head gone in no time, only a small lacing remains along the edge of the drink.

S: has a thick aroma of sweet and salty with some soy notes.

T: first to hit is a mild flavor of coffee followed by vanilla and some subtle salt notes as it warms.

M: the dryness of the salt hits at the end making it seem like a dry beer, but with plenty of body. Slightly chewy, pretty drinkable, and more and more dryer as you keep on drinking.

O: i believe this beer is pretty straight on with what they were trying to achieve. You have all the fundamentals of a stout, but once you add the oysters it adds a twist in the direction of the beer, as to say, from a dessert beer which would have been a regular stout, it went on to being an appetizer served as a taster to go with those delicious oysters you're about to suck on. If you're going to enjoy it, plan on having something else afterwards cause your mouth is gonna ask for it!
