"Exhausted by the tedius work and rancid beer, Deck Swabs O'Sullivan and Freccia abandoned Sir Francis Drake's galleon. Days later, they washed up on a tiny island in Tomales Bay, where they encountered local oyster farmers John and Terry. Soon, these beer mutineers and oyster mercenaries were feasting on roast pig, fresh oysters and goblets of the Captain's finest ale. They could think of worse fates than being Marooned on Hog Island." Brewed in the style of an Oyster Stout. A one-time fall/winter release available in 12 oz. canned 4 packs and on limited draft.

Poured from a 12 oz. can to a pint glass. Served above 62 degrees Fahrenheit.

The beer pours a frothy foam head of a mocha cream complexion atop a very dark cola brown body. Chunks of heavy sediment are visible at the edge of the glass, and a big chunk of something mysterious floats on the surface, surely they didn't pack the oysters in with this can? Retention is good, lacing is moderate and stringy. The beer has aromas of moderate roasted barley, cocoa syrup, and a hint of complex sugars for a subtle sweetness. The flavor is similar although dryer in taste, medium roasted malts, charred malts, yeast-borne fruit notes of dry raisin and unfortunately little to no oyster character, just a solid dose of roasted barley. The texture is silky, oily and moderately dry. Carbonation generates a subtle airiness for a soft frothy mouthfeel. The body is shy of medium for the style, medium+ overall. Balance is slightly roasty over sweet. Alcohol presence is low to none and the off characters are minimal with some minor oxidation creeping in due to its age. Altogether its a simple stout but lacking in that texture and flavor of oysters, with the dominant flavors being roasted malt and little else. To that effect, it's enjoyable, but not spectacular.

poured from the can into a standard pint glass. canned on date 11/19/12. interesting. a previous reviewer had one from 12/12, are them some old ones making the rounds recently or is thise by design?

Looking pretty good, jet black with a less than 1/2inch oatmeal head.

Getting malts on the nose, but not heavily roasted. age related perhaps? Did get some faint hits of licorice and caramel.

Tasty brew. I avoid shellfish, so have no idea what oysters taste like. This is quite a hearty beer. malts, dried fruit, sweetness.

mouth is a tad below medium. flavor certainly hangs around for a while.

Overall, an enjoyable beer. How would it taste fresher? If I come across one again, I'll give it a try.

Old. Canned Dec 2012. Should you age this? I don't know. I did though. Accidentally.

Looks nice. Dark and black. Little lacy froth. A nice dark brown froth. A good froth.

Nose is wacky. Raisiny and sweet. From the age? maybe.

Taste is pretty good. Some chocolate. Some raisin. Some rum. Some espresso. No oyster.

Feel is like a thin syrup. Kinda weird but I kinda like it.

Need to compare to fresh. But with 1.5y of age on it (in a can) it's still a decent stout.
