You might not expect a Saison in winter. But the enemy didn’t expect Washington to cross the icy Delaware, either. Expectations be damned, we say. We’re sneaking up on winter with a boatload of bravado and this Belgian-style farmhouse ale. Dry hopped with whole organic cardamom pods, our Saison has an assertive spiciness. In your face, winter.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from the 12 oz. can into an El Catador Barrel-Aged glass.

A: Brilliant gold with only a mild haze. Lots of active visible carbonation and a few floaters. A big fluffy three-finger white head forms, but fades fairly quickly.

S: Cracker malts; mild pilsner as well. A bit of mustiness within the yeastiness. Some black pepper in the yeast esters as well. A mild citrusy lemon – I'm not sure if there's some citric acid or if it's from the cardamom.

T: Cracker and pilsner malts. Saison yeast, a bit of musty basement. Cardamom, lemon rind, and mild citric acid. Mild grainy husk. More yeast and a fair amount of hop bitterness (citrus and herbal) at the end.

M: A light body; although carbonation sensation is lower than the appearance suggested it remains adequate. Low alcohol presence.

O: Not a bad saison, but nothing great nor likely anything better than a lot of other stuff on the shelf. Not at all the “modern” tart or funky saison, this stays somewhat more traditional. Not overtly flawed but nothing I’d seek out.

DATE: June 24, 2018.... OCCASION: celebrating Michael's 9U undefeated championship run in Branchburg... GLASSWARE: La Fin du Monde tulip... though I was having this a bit out of season, but the light golden body--rife with bubbles and a sizzling, finger-width of white head suggests this could work in the early summer as well... in fact, the swirling storm of effervescence suggests this is still quite fresh... banana, clove, Saaz hops, white grapes, pepper, peppermint, and cardamom, which gives this a unique aspect... in addition, the yeasty esters create a nice floral arrangement that invites the next sip... speaking of which, each sip is soft, somewhat thin, but effervescent at the throat, with enough texture at the teeth to suggest reasonable hop bitterness... refreshing, subtly sneaky at 6.2% ABV... outside the season it was intended for, the flavor profile shoulders its yeast well, creating a florid sweetness, flirting with a honeyed bourbon but settling on a smooth, blunted spiciness that doesn't distinguish itself much from the other saisons that are in year-round circulation... still, not one I would refuse if handed to me, and a welcome offering in the break box mix pack I got this in...

This beer pours a bright gold with a fairly large head. The aroma is rich and sweet with notes of clove, green banana, white grape and brown toast. The flavor is fairly light, with notes of white grape, clove, green banana, biscuit malts, and cardamom. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with lively small bubble carbonation. Overall this is a perfectly well done beer - very much an American interpretation of the style, but still well done.

Yet again 21st Amendment Brewery delivers rather crafty can art!

Pale yellow, ultra thin head, lots of bubble streams, and tuns of rustic junk floating about!

The scent is an Old World delight, rustic malt, citrus.
Spice: well balanced & bold.
Taste follows the nose. Crisp and dry. Herbal.

Difficult to avoid two or more; a most tasty temptation!
Digging this Farmhouse style!
(Rather like a lighter ABV version of North Coast's Le Merle, for this alchemical accent ... I'll be back!)

It tastes like can. Kind of reminds me of Pabst if it was stronger. It gets you where you need to be, but tastes like aluminum butt while it does so.
It's not bad enough to keep me from drinking it. But it's getting there.

L: a fairly pale yellow (piss-colored haha), with good amount of white head
S: fairly standard saison aroma, with an array of various spices. smells tasty.
T: a little breadier/heavier than I was expecting given the pale color. the saison spice is not as strong as I was expecting, although now that I think about it, that's only because many saisons are over-spice, but this one seems very balanced. flavor is a little bland though. its not quite spiced water, but it's definitely on the weaker side of the flavor spectrum.
F: crisp, refreshing. carbonation is medium-light. slight bitterness. medium-bodied
O: overall a very drinkable saison. a bit light on the flavor, but still quite good
