Visited 21st on 19JUN06, day 2 of the Bierman family trip. Had just finished a tour of Alcatraz and the gang was looking for food before heading to our next sight-seeing endeavor. OK, I say, I know a place we can try.... We were there soon enough, and found a parking spot on the street less than a block away. Super! In we went, around the large 3-sided bar in the front/left of the place. Beyond are loads of tables and booths in the cavernous, bright, loud and raucous room. Some large paintings (of workers and/or local customers?) hung on the left wall, while the right side had large, top-to-bottom windows providing plentiful sunshine inside. The kitchen was to the rear and open, allowing lovely aromas to waft table-side. Some stairs on the back left led to a loft with more tables (and a nice view) above the kitchen. The few TVs had some World Cup soccer action going. Some great classic rock was on the music system, and the place had a real good vibe, overall. We were greeted right off and seated w/out wait. Our waiter, Leif, was quite friendly and right there for all our needs. A Maine ex-patriate, he enjoys the Bay area but said he really misses New England... On this visit we had the option of 7 biers: South Park Blonde, TBN Blonde Bock, 21A IPA, Watermelon Wheat, Amendment Pale Ale, Phoenix IPA, and Oyster Point Oyster Stout. Alewife had the Bock, while I had the Bock then a 21A IPA. We were both disappointed in the Bock, it not really having much malt oomph. The 21A, on the other hand, really did the job. Each daughter had a pizza, which they thoroughly enjoyed, Alewife scored a big-ass burger, and I had a top-shelf jerk chicken sammich. Portions were very large and tasty, though costs here were a touch pricey. Then again, considering the location, etc, it was probably in line for a city of this size. A very enjoyable experience....

Zum Wohl!!

Note: we were heading back into San Fran on our last day of the trip, 23JUN, and the girls asked to stop back in for another lunch. No prob!! Was great again, save for our server. She started off well, then seemed to forget us after bringing our food, never asking how things were or looking to refill our biers. Service on stop 1 was 4.5, only a 3.5 on stop 2... Still an enjoyable lunch!

One of the ‘old school’ breweries in SF, and their original location is now second fiddle to their production facility/campus in San Leandro. However, for history’s sake it is still worth a visit, especially on game days. Beautiful brick building, too.

Located on 2nd St in San Francisco just a short walk under I-80 from the Moscone Convention Center, 21st Amendment by all appearance is very reminiscent of an unassuming, neighborhood Bar & Grill. The decor bespeaks a repurposed building with lots of exposed wood and masonry and utilitarian, weatherbeaten looking furniture; the staff is welcoming and attentive.

I visited on a Sunday afternoon (I was in town for a business event) and found the atmosphere charming and cozy. Through the door, the four-sided square bar is evident immediately with seating for about 25 and has approximately 12 taps (including at least one guest tap for cider). Past that is the sit down space with room for at least 100 with the grill area at the back. I had tried 21st century beers before and enjoyed them; the American Brut IPA that day was top notch.

I really enjoyed the overall feel of the place, which again was relaxed and comfortable. Brunch is available Saturday and Sunday mornings up until 2 pm. Note, I was in a hurry and the staff had me in and out of there quickly without pressuring or having to be asked; I suspect I could have sat there all day had I chosen to. Definitely worth a visit.

Good vibe, got there just before lunch and was hopping by 12:15. The food was good pub fare. The neers pn tap were great, the coco nutz was very good. The hefeweizen was very good also. My beef is that with all their beers they could have had a much bigger tap list.

i tried many of the choices they had, but walked away loving their Gigantes, even though I'm not a big pale ale fan. The flavor was amazing, and really drinkable.

this was kind of a random stop, but im so glad it happened. i have been enjoying their beer for years and marveling at their recent success and need to brew elsewhere. this is their somewhat humble beginnings, a smallish storefront from the street opens into a relatively expansive high ceilinged place, with the bar right in front, a small patio off the the side, and a lofted dining area above the kitchen all the way back. wood and stone and art are the decor, looks like its been there awhile, sort of quintessentially san francisco, at least as i have it in my head not being a local or anything. clean place too, well kept. the bartender was kind, and he shared a lot of samples with us. i had a smoked pumpkin beer that i really liked and the cask stout was excellent with vanilla, anise, and cocoa in it! the beer from these guys has always been good, so thats no surprise. a cool list of beers to pick from, and a nice looking food menu, but we didnt eat. good energy in here, especially in the morning as the day and the city sort of get going, it felt homey and right. very cool to visit the place where it all began for these now national players. worth checking out!

I visited 21st Amendment while in town for work. Of course I am familiar with all of their widely-distributed beers, but it was cool to come visit the mothership, as it were. It's an old school pub build-out with a couple of TVs on the wall; it's very lived-in, which I like a lot. They had 9 beers on tap plus 6 canned 21A offerings. The beers I tried were solid enough; I rarely have too many complaints about their beer anyway. It's not exactly a must-stop for amazing, undiscovered beer, but it's a cool piece of history to visit.

Located down the street from AT@T Park, great place to go to before and/or after a Giants game. That said it can get crowded so get there as early as you can!

Good vide. Low key on a Tuesday night. Busy but chill. Sitting at back table working on client work. Mostly males eating and drinking. Service was nice, and beer selection was good. About 10 on Tap and another 8 in cans. Food was slightly above average in general but less than average for what I get at other brew-pubs. Would come again for sure.
