I am listening to the Cinematic Orchestra's score to The Man With a Movie Camera while reviewing this pilsener, which is an excellent CD if you can find it. It works well with or without the film itself. It also works well with this beer. GREEN bottle gives a "Best Before" date: 14.11.08
A: Jever Pilsener pours a pale yellow-golden color capped by a big frothy, albeit rocky, white head which recedes to about a finger of head but then stays throughout the entire drink. It tends to lace well. I imagine that if my glass were perfectly clean, it would probably lace even better. (I'm not saying my glass was dirty!) There was a beautiful display of very active carbonation as well, even more so than champagne.
S: The smell of flowery Hallertau hops greets the nose immediately out of the bottle. Not much else.
T: There is a surprisingly strong malt character in this pilsener. The beer is well-balanced, but I was sort of caught off guard by the very present sweet malt taste. Those more immediate malts are balanced by a grassy hop taste shortly afterward. Yet the taste is somewhat lacking in complexity.
M: There is a very smooth mouthfeel that is a pleasure to drink. The carbonation that was so present in the appearance is not really here.
D: It's odd that while I don't find this beer to be exceptional in any way, I can easily see myself drinking this beer any time I wanted a Pils. It was very easy to drink and I liked it enough that I would return for another.
