A: POured a light amber yellow. A pretty substantial head thats almost snow white in color tops it off.

S: The predominant smell is skunk and light noble hops. Skunky to the point it reminds me of heineken. (Thats not a good thing)

T: Taste mimicks the nose. Skunky noble hops with a bread like malt sweetness on the finish.

M: Light bodied. Lots of carbonation dancing on the tongue.

Overall: Not a real good pils IMO. Too much skunk covering up and real aromas and flavors. COnsidering this was on draft, i'm surprised at said skunkiness.

Green bottle, Gaffel stange, freshness of March 2012, $2.49/11.2 oz.

Pour-Two finger pearl white head that begins to fade fairly quickly, incredibly active medium sized effervescence, just a bit of lacing, though thin and fizzy on the glass. Pale straw color.

Nose-The second I opened it, it was skunky grain awesomeness. Light skunky grains with a hint of citrus, seems pretty typical.

Palate-Sweet at first, a hint of sour, a good amount of bitter that transforms into a large wave of sweetness. Mostly a malty grain flavor with a little bit of skunk that isn’t too intense with just a touch of citrus, the sweetness is very strong.

Body-Medium light, fairly crisp with pretty active effervescence.

Final-Fairly easy drinking though much sweeter than I expected. Though very good, the sweetness makes it not quite as crisp as I’m used to for the style and a little bit heavy. The alcohol is actually slightly noticeable, but it is good overall. It’s just a little bit unbalanced IMO, though not too distracting

A - Very clear pale yellow body capped by a finger of porous white head after an aggressive pour.

S - Strong aroma of vita wheat crackers takes me back to my childhood. Salt, sesame seeds, grass.

T - Same cracker character. A sweetness in the malt profile.

M - Moderate in carbonation and body.

O - Reasonably satisfying pilsener. Nothing exceptional here though.

Color is a transparent straw-yellow. It has a thin, bright white head with nice retention and lacing. Aroma is very green bottle skunky at first, then earthy, malt and grass. At first, the taste is honey-sweet and then gives way to a strong, but not entirely unpleasant bitterness. There are hints of cracker and grainy malt with a bit of astringency. Medium body with good, zingy carbonation. The dry finish sort of sits on the back of your tongue. Pretty average.

Poured from an 11.2oz bottle into a Radeberger flute at low altitude.

A: Pours a crystal clear yellow with a moderate amount of carbonation bubbles flowing up toward the top of the glass. The head is foamy and stark white with a decent amount of retention and a fair amount of lacing.

S: The smell is relatively strong overall, but malty notes overpower herbal hops on this one. Strangely, I can smell a slight bit of alcohol in the background.

T: Just as the nose would suggest, biscuity malts up front with a less prominent bitterness on the finish. Definitely a little lacking in terms of a hoppy punch.

M: Medium-bodied and dry, although surprisingly lacking in carbonation. No less, a good feel for the style.

D: I don't think this is anything too special, but at least the flavors are very clean.

Green bottle, medium to lighter yellow. Has a nice noble hop aroma, grassy and slightly spicy, taste is the same, starting rather light and finishing a bit heavier with the pronounced earthy/spicy hop bite. A nice full flavored pilsner. Pretty well done.

Into a 0,3l stange, it pours a bright gold with dense soapy foam. Slow trails of ascending carbonation. Great retention, with plenty of patchy lacing to boot.

Boom! Skunk. Lightstruck green bottle skunk you can smell from several feet away. Cooked cereal grains, pretty unappealing at first. Puffed rice and wheat, something vaguely smoky oddly enough. Vaguely floral and grassy as it warms.

Honey and butter crackers from the pale malt, grassy bitterness from a noble hop presence. Body is crisp but a little watery. Loses a bit of carbonation towards the end. Ok, not great. More bitter than many German Pils, but as skunky as Heineken. Go with the draft or minikeg version...

Good pilsner weather, isn't it? It's a 330 ml green bottle, pop the top, and on to the beer:

Yellow straw colored with a few bubbles running up. The foam settles to a small creamy lace and whips good amounts of itself onto the glass. The nose has some wildflower notes, soil, some sulfur, and a whisper of hay.

This is one bitter pilsner. It starts bittersweet with a little honeysuckle, then you start to feel the bitterness unleashed. There are some distinct notes in the pils, like the soil and flowery flavors. There's a sharp bitterness that stings the palate, and it lingers long into the aftertaste.

Jever is not a beginner's pilsner. If bitterness is your quest, then Jever should fullfill that. While sometimes a little too much, I did enjoy the bitterness in general.

Jever Pilsener, ABV: 4.9%.
330 ml bottle, 11.90 SEK at Systembolaget.

A: A clear, straw-coloured liquid, with a quite big white head - nice retention.

S: Big aromas of malt and grassy hops, with notes of day-old bread, herbs and lemons. It feels dry already on the nose.

T: Dry and bitter hops, big flavours of bread and grainy malt, and notes of citrus and hay.

M: The feel is notably dry and bitter. Medium-sized body.

O: A classic Pilsener, I expected something crisp and delicious, but the dryness and all the grainy flavours made it a bit harsh. The price is good, though, it's still a pretty tasty lager, and I think it would do well with tasty home cooking.

A: Golden clear beer with decent head retention and lacing.

S: Great grainy/grassy smell along with Hallertau hop aroma. Grainy odor is wonderful with this beer.

T: Smooth, grainy taste. Medium hop bitterness and flavor. Very smooth.

M: Medium/full mouthfeel and good body.

O: Very nice Pils. They seem to use very good ingredients and water along with a quality brewing process.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pilsner glass. Had a pale yellow color and a clear consistency. There was a big, creamy, long-lasting head. Below average lacing.

S: A very skunky beer. It hits you the second you pop it open. Small traces of hops and malt, though.

T: Tasted of mild malt, grain, and a little citrus up front, with some hops in the finish. Like the smell, the skunky quality emerges as well. Overall, it's too harsh and badly done. Not a particularly great flavor.

M: A fair amount of carbonation with a slick, oily finish. Light-bodied.

O: This is an unmemorable, mass-produced beer with little to recommend it.

Poured from green 12oz. bottle into a standard pint glass.
Clear, golden/straw color, with a bright white, fluffy head of foam.
Aroma-Very faint skunkiness(green bottle syndrome), pilsner malt
Taste-Cracker, pilsner malt, short hop bite, very crisp, rather dry, light, quick finish. Crisp, light and refreshing. A fine example of the style.

Pours a crystal clear light yellow with a 2 inch white head that fades to a thin cap. Foamy splotches of lace dot the glass on the drink down. Smell is of grains, grass, and very slight skunk. Taste is of grains, grassy notes, with a bitter hop kick on the finish. There is an astringent bitterness on the palate that lingers after each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a very crisp and clean mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good pilsner with a very refreshing and authentic taste.

On tap at Dutches in East Hyde Park.

Straw to golden yellow with a fair amount of head and lace.

Nose is a musty hallertau. Plenty of spice.

The taste is crisp, subtle malt character with a heavy hand of hops. Quite tasty thoughout and finishes dry. There is a nice amount of spice but something just seems a bit muddied or rough. There really isn't anything wrong that I can point out as much as this isn't a great German Pils. Still a nice pilsener.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

Pours a crystal clear pale yellow with a half finger of frothy foam. Aroma is grainy, husky, DMS-like cabbage aroma as well.

First sip is a quick burst of malt, quickly overshadowed by a brief hoppy flavor, and the finishing bone dry. Minimal bitterness, minimal sweetness. Has a grainy flavor, with noble hops poking their way in as well.

Overall, a good hot summer beer, thanks to the dry finish. Not something I'd particularly crave or seek out again. Perhaps this tastes better closer to the source.

Poured into a pilsner glass a crystal clear light yellow, foamy white 2 and half head. Lots of carbonation. Smells that ‘kinda skunk-like’ smell found a lot in import pilsners at first, that goes away (my wife smelled it across the room and said that). Taste reminded me of Stella; dry weak bitter taste and mouthfeel. I like this german pilsner. Great for hot summer months.

Bottle given to me at Perry's Liquor in Livermore, CA by a distributor sales rep.

A - Poured a clear golden yellow with a white head that leaves lacing behind

S - Has that typical green bottle smell I expected better handling from a sales rep hops weren't completely shot though as some grassy scents are present

T - Like the nose slight skunk with some grassy hops and a slight bit of spiciness from the hops

M - This beer has a light body with medium carbonation to it

O - I would really like to try this beer again on tap or from a can to experience it flaw free regardless its still pretty easy drinking and worth trying if you like pilsners

Pours a very light clear yellow color. Fizzy white head that dissipates after a minute or two. Herbal, grassy very assertive Saaz hop aroma, as others have said it has a very typical generic "Pilsner" aroma. Nice and clean with a very hop forward flavor, but a bit one note. Not the best German Pils out there but a nice reminder to branch out and try some other ones.

Poured into a pils glass. Pours a golden clear hay color. Almost budweiser. Had a decen white head but it turned to a film. Slight lacing.

Aroma is that of heinekin. Vey pilsy and crisp but nothing else.

Taste is ok. It's more hoppy than other pils. Has more of a hop bite. It's crisp and refreshing though.

Mouthfeel is dry and semi high carb.

Overall it's an ok Lager. Not like the other German ones around but more like heinekin or something.
