Clear and very light golden in appearance, looking like a watery light beer. It has a rather short-lived white head that does leave some lacing.

The aroma is a balanced mix of hops and malt that is stronger than expected given the light color. The taste is stronger yet, especially the hop note and the surprisingly bitter (but not objectionable) aftertaste.

O: decent pils.

From 07/11/12 notes. Had from a bottle at Idle Hands in the LES New York. 8 oz. pour at their Wednesday tasting in a pint glass.

a - Pours a clear pale yellow color with one inch of bright white head and moderate carbonation.

s - Smells of grains, wheat, bread, and light floral hops, but not much at all. Pretty average.

t - Tastes of grains, floral hops, lightly bitter hops, wheat, and bready malts. Again, a bit bland and average.

m - Low body and moderate carbonation. Easy to drink.

o - Overall an average pilsener. Not much going on in the nose or taste, though neither are bad. Probably wouldn't seek it out again.

A: A clear straw color with a thin line of soapy bubbles on top.

S: Sweet honey malts with a grassy hop and slightly waxy aroma.

T: Kind of a wax and grainy malt flavor with a bit of fruitiness a bitter aftertaste. Not much hop flavor, just bitterness. The beer isn't sweet, it finishes dry.

M: light bodied with high carbonation and finishes dry.

O: Was hoping for more, but for me this is just and average Pilsener.

A-Pours a transparent golden color with minimal clean white head. Looks like a PILZNA.

S-Clean malt is submerged by some hefty Noble hops and a skunk aroma. Fresh cut grass. Skunk is too much. I can stand a little, but this is fairly hefty. Lets see how the taste.

T-Better than the nose. Less skunk. Hops are very grassy. Sun dried grass. But there is also a nice citrus hop flavor that tastes American. Breaded back end of the flavor. Pretty damn bitter and I like that. Sweetness grows stronger over time.

M-Light bodied. Bubbly and crisp. A nice pilsner feel. Dry and bitter. Plenty to like.

O/D-Better than most Pils. Its like a poor man's Prima Pils. I enjoyed it but I don't love it. Worth a try however.

So I finally splurged and bought an $11 six pack of this highly touted beer. I've had Jever in the past, but never thought it to be the king of all German Pilsners as some BAs do.

Euro green bottle with a best-by date of 04.2012 -- timing is everything.

A -- Somewhat hazy, straw to gold color with a dense white head that holds up well.

S -- Mild skunkiness from the green bottle (I pulled this six pack from the back of the bottom shelf) with spicy, herbal hops fighting their way through.

T -- Good bready maltiness up front, if a little thin, that blends into a good balance of spicy noble hops. There's a semi-harsh graininess that reminds me of the Paulaner and Hacker-Pschorr beers, but it's not distracting. Finish and aftertaste are dry and hop bitter. Some of that breadiness resurfaces in the aftertaste.

M -- Mouthfeel is crisp with a light to light-medium body.

O -- Overall, this is a good Pils -- not a great one. EKU has a great one and Trumer's US brewed rendition is great to style. The Trumer may prove a divide between imported and domestic-brewed beers; showing that a Pasteurized import may just lose some of the smoother characters you'd get at the source. Nonetheless, the Jever also proves that light lagers don't have to be bland and characterless.

A- Golden with a medium amount of carbonation. Would like a better carb bit.
S- Clean, earthy hop, herbal
T- Herbal, Hoppy, earthy , bready, light, well balanced and citrusy
M- Light easy drinking Pilsner. Exactly what I would expect a "craft" German pilsner to be
O- A good pilsner. Easy drinking and flavorful. Perfect summer Pilsner. I wonder what it taste like straight from the brewery! Hmm
