Poured from 750ml bottle. Live review....number 1,100!

A- Pours a very hazed golden straw yellow color. Two finger white head shows great retention. This beer leaves sheety lacing on the sides of the glass which tends to be thick in certain areas.

S- The aroma is so interesting to me. It has the typical saison like aroma with a hint of barnyard funk in the backing. The front of the beer showcases a mix between lemongrass and earthy dirt. There is more of a lemon aroma toward the middle and ending of the beer which kind of blends with the saison aroma. Hints of some funk and fresh cut grass linger throughout the entire beer itself.

T- With the aroma smelling very interesting I knew I was in for something special. The beer upfront shows a light lemon overtone with undertones of cut grass. There is a light flower hint to the front of the beer as well. It tastes to me like how a flower smells. Some ligth funk begins to show itself in the ending of the front and the start of the middle. Lemon grass and hints of barnyard funk with the middle of the beer shows a little bit of a change. There is a nice saison spiciness in the backend of the beer that blends with a dandelion flavor and some light funk. The alcohol never really shows in the tailend of the beer at all. Such a great overall flavor profile.

M- Light mouthfeel. Carbonation is good for the style. So many flavors are left on the palate but the ones I have no trouble picking out are lemongrass, barnyard funk, flower, and light yeast. Aftertaste is hints of alcohol, dandelions, lemongrass, and barnyard funk. Flavors seemed to flourish and blend well together for the style and I was impressed with the flavors all around. No off flavors were present when drinking this beer. Medium alcohol drying left on the palate after each sip.

O- Overall this beer was interesting to me. Not my favorite from Fantome but holy shit is this made well. I have a couple extra bottles in the cellar and I can only imagine what a couple years of age will do to these. The alcohol was light and never took away from the whole flavor. I enjoyed how the flavors blended well and nothing was over the top at all with this beer. A well made beer which I have come to expect with this world class brewery. A lovely take on a saison. A must try for anyone!

Appearance- Almost a gusher but not quite. Has pretty good retention as well. The head is a an off-white/very light tan while the body is a dull, medium to dark amber which appears a hazy medium amber when held up to the light. Some lacing is left behind.

Nose- Very subtle but very refined. Very clean smelling. Banana, very light cloves, a suggestion of lemon and apple. Very spring smelling if that means anything. Swirling shows a little bit more of the cloves and gives off a blend of earthiness and ashiness.

Taste- Starts with the fruit esters of the nose- a blend of apple and lemon. Cloves come in pretty strong and impart an ashiness that tends toward a woody bitterness. Some banana on the finish makes this a little bit more bearable. Some honey on the finish. Coriander as well but the cloves are a little much for me at the moment. The woody bitterness even gives off a little earwax. Fortunately, the honey and floral notes counteract this but not enough. A subsequent pour shows a much more mellow clove character with a bitter bite that serves to give the beer more character instead of overwhelming it. A good beer and a competent saison but doesn't really excite me in anyway. Nice balance and integration but it does lack in the presence and complexity departments. Some grain.

Mouthfeel- Light bodied with a good amount of carbonation which really works for this beer. Has some airiness.

Drinkability- Pretty easy going despite the slight distraction of the cloves. Certainly not worth the 16 bucks I paid though. I will not be buying this again.

Overall- A good beer and competent saison with a great beer price tag. Worth a try but if you balk at the cost, you should pass. Not as interesting as the regular Fantome. Definitely a bit boring.
