I'm pretty excited about this brewery being newly available to me thanks to not being too far away from Keg Liquors in Indiana. Hats off to them and their mystifying ability to get hard to find beers.
750 ml bottle, corked and capped. Best before May 2012, so I'm thinking it's pretty fresh...
Pours a murky orange/light amber with a lively off-white head. It seems light enough that I ought to be able to see through it...but it's pretty opaque. Very bubbly.
I could smell this thing immediately after popping the cork. The amount of aroma is pretty remarkable. Extremely floral. Not to sound too sentimental, but this smells like a garden after a spring rain. I really can't think of a better way to explain it.
The taste goes along with the smell but there's more fruity belgian yeast coming out. Light, bready malts, citrus, and other light fruit flavors. A nice touch of hay and funk. Finishes dry and with a touch of bitterness. This beer seems to me like a really beefed up Saison Dupont. It retains those "classic" saison qualities, but it's much more floral and fruity.
Judging by how lively this beer looks, I was worried that it might be overly carbonated and fizzy. Not the case. The carbonation is balanced out by a surprising slickness. It may be thick for the style, but it doesn't hinder anything for me.
This beer is surprisingly refreshing and drinkable for 8%. I'm enjoying it more and more with every sip. It's a little pricey, but I'm excited to try everything else from this brewery.
