750 ml bottle ($14.99 at RSVP in Portland, ME) poured into Allagash chalice. Best by 01/2013.
A: Pours a brilliant, almost fluorescent opaque straw-gold with melon highlights. 2-finger stark-white head settles VERY fast and doesn't leave any lacing. Rugged.
S: Mint, citrus, funk and subtle berries. Sweet and grassy.
T: Starts out very floral and tart with notes of honeydew melon and spice. Malty center transitions into a finish that is heavy on strawberry, with a touch of mint. Unbelievably gorgeous.
M: Carbonation is moderate, with somewhat of a thin mouthfeel. Could benefit from having a bit more body, yet drinks fairly creamy for how thin it is.
O: Can't believe I haven't reviewed Fantome yet, which is undoubtedly my favorite saison on the planet. It's not perfect, and the batch variation makes it somewhat unreliable (I had a bad bottle once that required a return), but the flavor is so mysterious and harmonious that it deserves a spot at the top of anyone's list.
Unique and wonderful.
