Fantôme Magic Ghost, bottled in 2019. Poured at fridge temp, but allowed to warm over a little while. Pours an ugly (and murky) light green with tons of fluffy white head.
The nose is somewhat subtle, compared to my expectations. There is definitely some funk going on, sour lemon candy, and some slightly unripe green grapes. Not picking up much of the green tea on the nose.
The taste is phenomenal. Sweet and malty. Grainy. Almost tasting like a strong Belgian pale ale at this point. Slight green tea, sourdough bread, lavender, a touch of clove, sweet apple, pear, and maybe a hint of banana. Not a hint of tart or sour on this one.
The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with a nice mild sweetness on the aftertaste. Lovely beer!

Pours a syrupy-looking, green apple-hued gold with two-plus fingers of very airy green-tinged head that are short for this world and leave no lacing. Points for creativity.
It has a dry, soapy, earthy aroma.
The taste isn’t that far off. Add some oaky, woody, yeast character to the mix alongside the soap and earthiness. There’s a light flash of green tea-and-apple sweetness as well. Otherwise it’s fairly strong herbal / aspirin / earthy bitterness — twigs, leaves, dirt, fungus and the like.
Light to medium bodied with strong carbonation.
Tea lovers may appreciate this one. I enjoy the color more than the beers other characteristics. Not awful, but far from my favorite.

a mythical beer for me, something i have known about and seen pictures of for years, and always wanted to try, i was shocked and overwhelmingly stoked to see it on tap at bittercreek in downtown boise, the last place on earth i thought i would encounter this fabled brew. ive had the other green one, the one with spirulina i believe, this one is green tea, which must be like matcha powder or something, its way more green in the glass than any green tea ive ever had from normal tea leaves, must be a concentrate, but its like steamed broccoli green in the glass, literally an insane color for a beer to be! the head is wispy and short lived, but the beer remains effervescent. not sure i have had much fantome on tap before. the aroma and flavor are driven by the familiar fantome saison yeast, french-esque here, with a strong white wine ester and some neat dry spiciness to it, really fizzy and drying, this is almost crisp like a lager in feel. the tea doesnt have a ton of aroma or taste to me, an earthy herbal thing maybe at the end, but a ton of bitterness, i mean a ton, like this almost drinks like a big ipa or something in terms of the finishing intensity, that has to all be from the tea, i could see folks being turned off by that, but it just fascinates me even more, and i can hardly set my glass down. curious that this still has some oxidation, which i always assumed came from the green bottles they used, but here on draft its there as well, flattering in a style like this though. overall not quite as interesting in flavor as i thought it would be given the color and the use of the tea, but its hard to argue that this isnt an awesome saison. fantome continues to intrigue me and impress me, i can never get enough of their beer! this was a rare treat to discover, but i think i like the other green one better...

2017 bottle, opened in 2019, stemmed glass. Darker brown body, slight greenish hue, looks fairly bilious. Not the koolaid green as I was expecting, but I figure oxidation played a role. I figure it'll make it more complex. Smell is yeast and mineral, a bit of an astringent leathery bite to it, mild grain sweetness, funky cobweb, moderately sweet, not particularly tart. Flavour follows, but it gets more astringent with every pour and it builds up. It's tough to finish, to be honest. Weird beer. Not really getting oxidative flavours though. Lighter bodied, a bit thin, good carbonation.

I love their regular Saison but their special versions not always. This one gave me a harsh unbalanced bitterness that I did not enjoy. The green tea did not taste much but it gave be the necessary boost to stay awake a little longer
