Pours a cloudy orange amber and despite a careful pour, had lots of small white particulates floating around, looks kind of cool. Two finger white head with good retention and thick lacing. Aroma of Belgian yeast (reminiscent of saison yeast), apple juice, stone fruit, light citrus and cardamom. Flavor is dry, almost champagne like light fruit, clove, light stone fruit, grassy and slightly earthy. Finish is bone dry with a long lingering spicy, non-hop bitterness. Medium bodied with hints of creaminess. A very nicely made dry tripel that has the traditional spiciness and light fruit, but shares some character with saisons, probably because of the dryness in the finish. Nicely done. Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip.

Beer bottle (33 cl.) purchased from Comptoir du Pouple (La Roche/Yon) and tasted in 2013.

Appearance : golden blond color, with white foamy head.
Smell : fruity and hoppy aromas.
Taste & mouthfeel : sweet malty flavors, light bitter finish.
Drinkability : a good beer in the Belgian style Triple.

One of the many beers I picked up from Ledger's Liquors in Berkeley, poured from a 11.2 oz bottle into a Duvel glass.

A: Pours a hazy orange honey-ish color with about 3/4 inch of dense white foam. Definitely less foam than you might expect from a beer like this

S: Yeasty and spicy, with notes of honey and caramel. Belgian yeast smells dominate but you can definitely make out some grassy and peppery scents as well.

T: Deep and complex. Nice hoppiness in the beginning followed by sweet apricot and strong honey flavors. Slightly dry finish.

M: Definitely on the heavier side, with a balanced amount of carbonation

O: The second beer I've had from De Ranke, and definitely one I'll go back to! It's pretty different from any other tripels that I've had before, so I appreciate that.

Bottle: standard brown 330mL bottle, pretty boring old school Belgian label.

Appearance: pours bright orange with small floaties, limited carbonation. A one-finger white head drops to a thick cap. Decent lacing.

Aroma: Belgian yeasts as expected, with some citrus and an earthy, bitter quality. Interesting.

Taste: unusually heavily spiced and floral for a tripel, but the Belgian yeasts and earthen characteristics are there too. Overall not mind-blowing, but a good and different version of the tripel.

Aftertaste: the earth carries through as does the grassy hops, with a smidge of yeast.

Mouth feel: medium in weight with a slightly higer, prickly carbonation.

Overall: seems somewhat different to the 'normal' tripel style, but doesn't suffer for it - just a bit different. I'm pretty certain it ain't worth the AU$130+ per case price, but hey - one every now and then won't hurt.
