Saison de Dottignies is a high-fermenting saison with a relatively low alcohol content which makes for a well-balanced beer.

Taste: Full of taste, but very drinkable. Heavily-hopped and thirst-quenching - typical of saison-styled beers.

Poured into a tulip. A clear sunflower gold. Thick mounding white head. Decent retention and a nice lace. Aroma is hints of spice with an undertone of bread, a little grain and a lemon brightness. Taste is a light sweetness that quickly dries into a crisp, grainy and bitter finish. Nicely dry but with an odd astringency in the finish.
A decent saison. But I do enjoy a little farmhouse must in there somewhere.

Purchased from Carwyn Cellars in Melbourne, Australia in November 2021. For various reasons not drunk until October 2022.

L: Hazy, dark, golden yellow. carbonation is evident if I look really closely.

S. Farmyard funkiness. Dust. Muddy grass. Ripe hay. Exactly as I thought it would smell!

T: Sweet, vinous, peppery and spicey. Finishes dry as a desert. Outstanding.

M: Moderate carbonic prickle. Pepperyness lingers on the side and back of the tongue.

O: An excellent Saison. This is a style I'm not overly fond of, but this beer has gone a long way to changing my mind. Well done!

Cheers!

(330 ml bottle, no date/code; purchased single off shelf at Bella Vista... poured into a fat tulip)

L: polished-clear, mid-deep amber liquid; tall, frothy, dense foam pad... keeps a steady cap, laces a bit

S: toasty caramel malt, slightly burnt caramel (a la creme brulee)... booming intensity and expression... more on the biere de garde side of character? (i.e. Jenlain)

T: caramel toastiness present, but taking an immediate back seat to a warm spiciness; dry aftertaste with a subtle apple-saucey, champagne-like fruity accent... dang if this don't have a (Old E) malt liquor flavor foundation to it; its taste, bolstered by some ripping phenols and apple brandy-like alcohol, arrests the palate, nestling into every crevice... eventually reinforces its one-dimensionality, but its lingering spice is appealing, despite a delicate acetone edge to it

F: slight hint of viscosity and roundness enveloping its rather light-bodied frame; dry, but with a residual lip-smacky film... its heat and stunning spice are actually rather enjoyable and give it most of its personality

O: atypical of most characteristic saisons that make it over here... has some notable nuances, could maybe be a fine pairing for some mussels or other buttery shellfish, but is in this state altogether basic and relatively bland, lacking depth outside its signature spiciness (1911)

11.2oz bottle EXP 28/01/2023 decanted into a tulip glass at fridge temp 5.5% ABV leaving an inch of beer in the bottle. The beer pours mostly bright light honey amber in color with quick rising, light khaki head on a gentle pour. The head recedes to a thin ring and thin cap leaving a curtain of lacing. The aroma is mild with notes of clovey spice, pale malt and floral hops. The taste is dry pale malt with lots of hoppy earthy & floral notes. Moderate bitterness throughout. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with above average carbonation and a very dry finish. Overall, very good. I really wasn't expecting this level of hop influence, but it's very well done and drinkable. I did pour the last inch of liquid into the glass about halfway through. More peppery yeast flavor, fuller body and less dry.

On tap at The Sovereign in Washington DC.

This one pours a slightly hazy golden yellow color, with a fluffy head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like like pretzel dough, spicy hops, doughy yeast, light citrus, and clove.

This feels like drinking a funky and pillowy pretzel in liquid form. The yeast character on this is so expressive - doughy, clove, honey, etc, with a light but tasty hop character - spice, grassiness, etc.

This is light bodied, pillowy, and soft, with an expressive but not sharp level of carbonation.

This is very enjoyable, as expected from this excellent brewery.

Light gold on color with a frothy bubbly white head that persists. Lemony earthy light funk with hints of toasty bready maltiness. Nice Saison.

330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.5%. Golden colour, large white head. Pleasant fruity and mildly spicy aroma of saison yeast. Medium dry flavour, more spicy than fruity, with a distinct hoppy bitterness in the finish, nearly medicinal in the aftertaste.

Dark amber mostly opaque body with a huge cream colored head, periodic lacing. Aromas of various botanicals, especially grass and leaves, a touch of honey to the malts and huge rustic bready yeast with floral tones. Starts with sweet botanicals, almost weedy and honey laden at the same time, before bitter and earthy hops rides a wave of sharp belgian yeast for the second half of the sip. Dries out through the sip quickly, medium bodied and sneaky crisp. The wife loved it

My first saison. I was expecting something a bit more outside the box. The smell is very doughy with a funkiness that is hard to place. Tastes very grassy and earthy with a dry lingering bitterness. It reminds me of a sake bomb and I don't don't mean that as criticism. It is light and crisp and would be fitting to sip on a hot summer's day. Shame I'm trying it mid-winter.

De Belgiuminabox. Leyendo C9 Preface. En copa Teku. Correcta saison, con cierto perfil terroso y seco que para mi gusto la deja algo por detrás de los mejores exponentes del género pero aún así se disfruta bastante

Pours a beautiful golden yellow color with big foamy white head and good lacing. Floral smell, a bit of funk. Light refreshing taste. Lemon and a bit of pepper spice. Somewhat herbal. Overall, pretty good saison.

Not as flavorful as Saison DuPont but it is nice to discover a saison I have not had before.

APP - clear, light gold,
AROMA - very light, sweet, pils malt. Light fruity herbal aroma. inviting
FLAVOR - deep, firm pils base with herbal hop midpalate crubed off by phenols. Moderate-strong bitterness in a long finish.
OVERALL - One of those saisons that is basically pils made with farmhouse yeast. Bitterness is tell tale of this brewer.

A: Pours a hazy golden/amber color. A two finger white head forms, with initially good retention. That eventually fades to a small cap that sticks throughout. Light lace is left behind.
S: Baked bread, malty and almost like wort. Seems a little unfinished in the nose, but not entirely bad. Citrus hops, light dusty yeast. Though the yeast and esters are almost nonexistent.
T: Chewy malts, baked bread and doughy. Citrus hops come in next, with just a touch of bitterness. Where's the yeast? Almost no yeast character, and that is a disappointment.
M/O: A medium body and moderate carbonation. Not particularly vibrant bite here. Just kind of there. Not hard or offensive to drink in any way, just not a good Saison.

I mean, as kind of a malty, hoppy, beverage with some alcohol, yeah it meets that criteria. Which isn't bad "in that regard." Though how can this be a Saison? I'm being a little generous in my scores, but not to style at all.
