a - Pour is somewhat hazy, moderately small head, 1 inch or so.
s - Hops definitely making an appearance, though for some reason they are a little off putting.
t - Some citrus qualities to the beer.
m - pretty evenly bodied, extremely drinkable.
o - Not the greatest IPA, but good for what it is.

I am a fan of most Grittys beers, so I was excited to try Maine's Best IPA.
I would say it is a good IPA but it does have a few flaws.
1. The Ringwood yeast is wrong for this style, something cleaner would be more apropriate. As the beer warms up in the glass the butterscotch comes through.
2. The Warrior Hops as a flavor hop is rather curious. This beer could really benefit from some aroma additions.
Next time I want an IPA, I will pass on Grittys "Maines Best IPA" , and go for the Stowaway IPA from Baxter Brewing which deserves the title "Maines Best IPA"

A 6.8% IPA is always a gamble...throwing the dice on a hoppy brew at this abv will give wierd results. As to our buds at Shippy doing the gruntwork, Kudos; this is available at most pharmacy-beer-suppliers for a good price; and for that price we can drink all night and enjoy. Yes Orangy, yes Bubbly and gives a good head...better on tap, but works nevertheless. Not bitter, nor back-bacony, you need this as a daily tap.

Poured from a bottle into a tumbler pint, the beer is a bright, vibrant, copper-brown coloring with a thin, filmy coating of white sparsely covering the surface. Aromas of toffee sweetness and a subtle, peppery, dry hopping. Subtle nose, but very balanced. Flavors of a more resiny hopping, with a solid, roasted caramel backbone. Palate reminiscent of an English IPA. Very balanced. Rich and bitter throughout. The smooth flavors are kept manageable by a lighter body. The aftertaste has a more hopcentric feel, with spices and floral aromas throughout. Rich and bitter finish. Very tasty.

Enjoyed at the Auburn, Maine location this IPA shows a copper-yellow color, clear with a reasonable off-white fuzz and excellent lacing. The aroma is of lemon toffee and malt wheat and a touch of yeasty vegetable. Not much what I had in mind, but not distasteful. The flavor is more encouraging and brings a sort of minty evergreen hop over vague malt caramel with a hint of lemon and some nutty wheat. It's got a solid medium body with a heavy liquid feel, somewhat creamy and nicely substantial. Not bad.

Poured from a 22 oz bomber into a into a pint glass. Picked up straight from Freeport store.
Pours cloudy dark amber with white foam. Some layer remains on top. Orange tint. Light fruity nose, but mild. Subdued for an IPA. Taste is a citrus grapfruit. Good malt blend. Little bite at close. The rind gets mixed into the finish. Last note is citrus. NOT the best IPA in Maine (obviously) but still good.

From 08/31/12 notes. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tulip. Bought at Spirit's in Middletown, NJ, best by November 2012 date on the bottle.
a - Pours a hazy orange-amber color with one inch of white head and low to moderate carbonation evident.
s - Smells very malty. Smells of fruity malts, bready malts, light citrus hops. Hops are nice but overall pretty average.
t - Tastes of fruity malts, citrus hops, bready malts, and light caramel malts. Less hops than the nose, and a step down for me.
m - Medium body and low carbonation. Body is pretty smooth and easy to drink.
o - Overall a pretty average beer and a below average IPA. A little bland and not very hoppy, but some fruity malts to it. Suffice to say this is not Maine's Best IPA; wouldn't seek it out again.

Fresh bottle drunk in my hotel room from the store. Likely just their regular IPA but I don't currently know. Grapefruit hop aroma. Decent hop flavour, and then well malted like a red English. Not the best IPA I have had but better balance and drinkability than other hoppy beers I have had here recently. Grapefruit hops and the English style malting make it interesting in any case.

Had this on tap at the Freeport location. Overall, a so-so IPA and probably not one I would have again. Main problem is lack of hops on the nose. For an IPA on tap, I expected much more. Just an average beer with no special notes worth mentioning.
If you found this review to be lacking but unoffensive, then you know how I felt about this beer.
