Notes/Commercial Description:
You can't put summer in a bottle, but we may have come close! When the weather gets warm we roll out our summer seasonal, Vacationland Summer Ale. Vacationland is an Extra Special Golden Ale that's light in color but full-bodied, with a snappy hop finish. A bit of extra time in the conditioning tank rounds out and mellows the ale. We use generous portions of pale malt with just a touch of wheat malt to give VSA unique flavor that?s richer than most summer brews. Cascade leaf hops add a delicate and forward hop character as well. It's the perfect brew for all things summer.

Into a pint glass:

A: clear amber/blonde body with some slowly rising carbonation filling an exceptionally foamy, lumy white head with light spotty lacing, the head lasted for about three minutes, light rings were left in the wake as the beer went down

S: some breadiness, lemon and malts

T: bitter through previously mentioned flavors

M: light, sessionable, crisp, dry aftertaste and finish

O: I've had this numerous times and out of a bottle. This is good for the style and for me

22oz bottle poured into a Pint Glass.

Pours a clear light copper with a fluffy white head that settles to a foamy cap, leaving spots of lacing clinging to the glass. Subdued aromas of toasted malt and grassy hops, with a bit of creamed corn. Taste is similar to the nose, mild flavors of light malt and some floral, grassy hops. Mouthfeel is light and crisp, with a thin body and sharp carbonation. Pretty run-of-the-mill, there's millions of better session beers out there.

Poured from a bottle into a pilsner, the beer is a super-bright maize coloring, vibrant but a little watery. It pours with a decent amount of fluffy white, airy head that stands around 2 inches and settles very slowly. Great cling along the glass as you go, the beer has toasted oats and honey sweet aromas. Some light spicing on the nose, too. Flavors are a bit light, but a smooth toasting hits first, with a slight sour malt character at the end. The aftertaste is watered down, also, with a limp malt sweetness. The finish is almost nondescript, with a watery and lacadasical honey sweetness, barely. Felt light water throughout. Meh.

Thanks to my man Hoyt for bringing this back from Maine.

22oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

Pours a clear gold with a 1/4" head with great retention. Smells is hops and wheat similar to a german pilsner. Taste is mild hops and wheat; bitter and unbalanced; even a little sour in the finish (maybe yeast gone bad?). Mouthfeel is light with absolutely no carbonation.

I did not enjoy this beer at all. Given the sour taste I suspect it may have gone bad.

Draught @ Brewpub: This one poured a golden color. There was a small white head that leaves some lacing. Some floral, spicy and light citrus notes to the nose. Some malt sweetness also. Taste is a touch dry with a very light bitterness. Almost a medium body. Some malts, earthiness, slight spice. A decent summer brew.

Poured into a shaker pint glass from the bottle.

Foamy soapy head with lots of retention and off white. Body is a real nice true clear blonde amber with some rising slow carbonation. Looks great.

Bouquet is soft bready malts and sourdough sweetness. Smells a little like sour yeast.

Light bodied and soft malted grain and yeast in the palate. Fluffy and slight hint of crisp palate. Almost a hinting hop bitterness on the swallow.

This just might be an American Blonde ale I could get into, probably helps that I am on vacation right now drinking it which makes it even better (wink).

Poured into a standard pint glass: nice bright white, a half inch thick, it dissipates to a ring and clings feintly. Color is pale straw to gold, nicely transparent.

Smell is very grainy, no particular malt scent with a hop fruity and bitterness.

Taste is relatively clean, nice malt, grain flavor, not overly sweet or cloying, nice bitterness to finish it up, with hints of lemon.

Mouthfeel is very well done, clean flavors, nice bitterness to clean up malt, maybe a touch strong on the tongue but expected for a maltier blonde ale.

Overall, I like this brew very much, best out of the Gritty's I had leftover from our Maine trip, and a perfect beer to review on the hottest day of the year.

A yellow/orange pour with a fluffy two finger head. A lot of carbonation. Grassy with subtle sour malts in the nose. There is also a layer of floral and lemon hop notes. Taste is biscuit and grassy earth hops. Lemony malt finish not too bitter. Crisp at first but there is something off about the finish. The lemon is sour and only slightly balanced with the malt.

L: Pours a golden yellow-orange color with a medium sized and medium bodied white colored head that laces the glass nicely on the way down to a ring around the beer.
S: Smells of sweet toasted malts, some light citrus aromas, and a hint of something sweet at the end.
T: Tastes of sweet toasted malts, light citrus flavors, and a hint of hops at the end.
M: Crisp, refreshing, perfect amount of carbonation, light bodied, very drinkable.
D: Overall a very drinkable, session-able beer. Really nice mix of light flavors, light abv.
