This bottle was brought back from the Turks and Caicos Islands by a friend who vacationed there. It was purchased in a discount store off the shelf. The bottle is clear glass, which caused me some concern about the brew being light-struck.
There is no best-before or brewed-on data on the label. So you have no way of knowing how long the beer sat in the open in a bright tropical setting. The bottle also has a twist top, but the glass is not high quality. The threads on the top were rough even though the rest of the bottle was clean and clear. If you get one of these, be careful opening it, as you may run the risk of shaking loosea few glass crumbs
Anyway:
Appearance: A clear honey colour, like oak aged whiskey. The colour made me suspect they got the label wrong, and put it on a honey lager or some other style. It poured with a one finger of head that settled quickly. Lacing was moderate.
Smell: Very faint malt, not at all like a stout. Mostly floral hops that lingered at the back of the nose. Not much else.
Taste: It has a pleasant sour bite to it, with a hint of fruit. Other that that, it tastes like beer. No extremes here. But it's not a stout!
Mouthfeel: Very good fizz. Medium body, not as smooth as I expected. Long finish. I could taste the brew long after the last sip.
Drinkability: Not a favourite, but it is much better than most of the wimpy Caribbean beers like Piton, Mayabe, or Cristal. I could drinks a few of these on a hot sunny beach. In order to support the local economy, I would choose a Turk's Head over the pricier imports.
