My Turn: John pours a very dark amber color with a large long lasting creamy head. There is a nice tart cherry aroma, with some earthy tones. The taste has some nice sweet and tart cherry flavors, but a very earthy undertone. Nice feel, good flavors. Overall it has some nice cherry flavors, but the earthy undertones do not blend well.

Pours dark brown with ruby highlights. A fluffy tan head thins and stays. Lacing sticks.

The smell is of dark grain with tart cherries.

The taste is of dark grain with a slight roast. Cherries add a pleasant tart character without tasting artificial or like cherry cough medicine. A hint of chocolate comes through from the malt. There is also a bready character that leans towards pumpernickel. Just a touch of noble hops to balance the sweettart in the finish. Well-balanced. Fairly complex for a lager.

It has a malty lager smoothness with ample, but not fizzy, carbonation. Crisp and refreshing. A mild tart flavor lingers.

A very interesting brew. Interesting and enjoyable. Wonderfully balanced. A nice unique spin on a dark lager. Nice cherry tartness.

Thanks John! And Lakefront! This was a pleasure!

Bottled 12/19/13.

Pours an opaque super dark brown with a foamy beige head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, biscuit, and slight dark fruit aromas. Taste is much the same with malt and sweet and sour cherry flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a solid sweet and sour cherry presence in the taste.
