Bottled on 04/22/14:

Pours slightly hazed golden with a foamy/creamy off-white head that stays around. Rings of lacing stick.

The smell is very robust - citrus and pine.

Tastes like a rich, hoppy, citrusy/grapefruity, piney/resinous, IPA with a balancing sweetness in the middle from a firm malty backbone. Finishes with a refreshing bitter dryness.

The feel is lighter for an IPA, as expected with more "sessionable" character and abv level. Refreshing.

This is a rich/robust IPA for a lower alcohol brew. Very easy to drink. Very hoppy, with a refreshing bitterness. An outstanding "session" IPA to say the least!

This pours a hazy, amber yellow color with a slight white head. The aroma is fairly strong with hops. The taste is decently bitter but yet smooth and well-balanced. Hops tease the taste buds without being too strong and leaves grassy, grain after taste. Glad to see Lakefront beer taste have improved a lot since I first tried it in 2008.

Pours a soapy, white, resiny head that laces readily. A bright citrus/floral hop aroma that becomes quite pinelike as the head collapses. Bright golden-amber color with hazy hop bits floating around. Starts with a nice citrus hop bitterness. Builds into a medium-high bitterness. A massive wave of malt overpowers everything. Lingering citrus rind in the finish.

I like this one alot. Great hop flavor, and a surprisingly awesome malt backbone to it all. Not only an excellent session IPA, but one of the best IPA's I've had.

12 oz bottle poured into a Lakefront imperial pint.
4.2% ABV, Bottled 04/22/14

A - Dumped right into the pint, a little haze is left in the goldenrod-colored beer, slightly clouding up the warm appearance but, it's wonderfully formed white head coats the pint in lace while retaining that volatile hop nose.

S - Like a good album, Extended Play's side A opens powerfully; bright and citrusy hoppiness explodes into the nose with force, showcasing lemon cookies, swirls of floral character, and summer-like suggestions of fresh cut lawn. EP's pale malt quality is barely perceived outside of the bready aspect of the lemon cookie aroma, which leaves it hoppy leaning.

T - Through side B, Extended Play keeps spinning it's hop forward quality with notes of lemon rind, freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, and a lightly grassy finish that all but drowns out the sound of cereal grainy pale malt in the background.

M - The bright citrusy hop character of Extended Play helps keep the perception of the body that much lighter, not that this extremely drinkable beer needs any more help in that department. Finishing with a delicate and dry kiss of bitterness, this India Session Ale is as refreshing as they come.

O - Lakefront's take on the ever-expanding "session IPA" or India Session Ale category is no one-and-done; like your favorite album, Extended Play can keep spinning all through the night without a skip. Hop forward but not exhaustively so, its bright and citrusy characteristics balance well against the submissive pale malt for a refreshing and thirst quenching experience that will go well for any occasion, especially one of Lakefront's silent discos.
