Near black, decent head, nice lacing.

Malty, with a toasted note.

Very roasty, bit of a porter quality, coffee, bread, earthiness, clean finish.

Smooth and light mouthfeel.

I enjoyed this. Nothing overly complicated, but clean and fairly bold for the style.

Beautiful beer from the start. Vey light aroma, sweet brown sugar, malt, chocolate.

This beer has the darkest burnt copper color, the best I can describe it. Tan head, the bottom of the glass has a lot of bubbles. It almost seems too much for such a sweet smelling lager.

Ahhh, very good. In the mouth this feels like a really light beer, but it is packed full of flavor. Sweet upfront, but it doesnt linger. Almost a root beer like flavor, but without the carbonation, which is contrary to all the bubbles I see. Chocolate, honey, malt. All this yet it sits lightly, and not weighty like a doppelbock might. It would be easy to tip back a few of these. Easy drinking solid dark lager.

Poured from a bottle that had warmed up to about 55º into a Perfect Pint...I received this about 8 weeks ago, so that could impact the flavor.

A=Rather dark brown...darker than Madtown Nut Brown but not quite as dark as Sprecher Black Bavarian--coffee colored. Eggshell colored head of about one finger that lasted just under a minute.

S=Malt, coffee, and bittersweet chocolate.

T=Moderately sweet, with moderate chocolate and moderate malt flavors. A touch of hops, perhaps, and no bitterness to be found. Reminds me of an Edmund Fitzgerald.

M=Spot on body for a lager--not too light, not too heavy. Light carbonation makes it rather drinkable--would make a great session beer.

O=I was rather impressed, as I envisioned a more bitter beer. I love Lakefront's red, and this is another winner...will definitely buy again. This would pair well with hamburgers, I think, or even do by itself.

Another one I tried in the flight at lakefront. My girlfriend HATED that I did that. She is a sweet person, but she can be dark, like this beer. Perhaps she is smoother than this beer, or maybe she goes down easier. She certainly has less back end.

Bottoms up!

12 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in a pilsner glass

A - It is burnt sienna in color with amber highlights. It is topped with less than an inch of tan head.

S - The smell is toasted caramel and cocoa.

T - The taste follows the aroma. There is cocoa with sweet caramel.

M - Moderate

O - It is a tasty lager. I enjoy the cocoa and caramel flavors. It is probably the best domestic dark lager that I have tried.

Serving: On tap, 6oz sampler after brewery tour
Served: 3 Jan 2014

Appearance: Dark brown-red color with a dirty white head.

Smell: Malty with roasted notes. Not as roasty smelling as a stout, but not as caramelly as an Oktoberfest or a doppelbock.

Taste: Somewhere in between a doppelbock and a porter/stout. This one feels lighter than a porter/stout but has similar roasty tastes that you can pick up. The coloring is lighter than either of those two aforementioned styles as well. Good flavor and easy drinking. Crisp edge evident due to its being a lager.

Mouthfeel: Nice carbonation makes this one go down easy.

Overall: A good beer and one that I could likely drink several of in one sitting.
