Another in my quest to find a good, US brewed Munich Dunkel. Also an old friend as I used to frequent the Lakefront Brewery quite often in the 90s and the Eastside was a favorite.

A -- Clear, deep dark chestnut color with ruby highlights and firm, creamy, long-lasting, light tan head.

S -- Dark bread crust nose with light chocolate and coffee hints. Lightest of roasted malts back, but not distracting.

T -- Mild roastiness up front that folds into a bready sweetness, but finishes with that tell-tale roasted malt bitterness that out-does the good breadiness.

M -- Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy with a somewhat dry finish and a good medium body.

O -- Overall this is a great drinking beer, well worth trying by anyone who likes dark beers, but I still can't call it a good Dunkel with the roasted malts being so prominent.

12 oz bottle into a New Glarus flute

A: a very dark brown. Nice thick head.

S: Hmmmm something smells a little funny. Not much aroma but something is a little weird.

T: Sooo good! There is a toasty chocolate character that I wasn't expecting. Very nice.

M: Extremely smooth. No hop character whatsoever but their shouldn't be for this style. I can drink six of this in succession.

Overall this is a really good drinking dark German brew but I can't help but wonder what I am smelling. What hops are used for this? I would buy it again however.

12 oz bottle into the tulip

A: Appears black but reveals a perfectly clear deep mahagony brown with ruby tonality. Off white dense head. Great lace. Very nice.

S: Malty with a little smokiness. Makes me want to drink up.

T: The roastiness of the malt is king and it is great. Toasted spice, nuttiness, crisp fresh hop finish. Excellent.

M: Viscous at first, ends dry. Tight carbonation.

D: Excellent.

12 oz bottle poured into Sam Adams glass. Pours a deep brown with quickly dissapating head. Roasty malt nose with some earth tones and chocolate. Taste has some toffee, dark fruit, and a fair amount of spicy hops. Nice snappy dry finish, well carbonated. This one actually exceeded expectations, probably wouldn't buy it again but certainly wouldn't turn it down if somewhat offered it.

I served this in a shaker pint.

Appearance- The beige head is nothing grand. Just a slight film of bursting bubbles. The body is much nicer to look at: a very dark mocha brown with some chestnut highlights.

Smell- The nose is full of bready malt and then some more bready malt. A slight grassy note suggests that hops are going to be present on the palate.

Taste- This is pretty much an Oktoberfest that has a good amount of a bread malt mixed in. The crystal malt is buried, but noticeable near the end of the drink, just have to wait for the bread malt to have its moment.

Not much else is happening with this beer. A little bitterness comes out in the finish with some grassy hop presence.

Mouth feel- Very watery. A darker beer usually feels better when there is some coating and it is creamy. This one comes off under carbonated and too slick.

Overall- This is an okay Dunkel. The dark malt does its part, but I am not sure it carries far enough in the drink to keep it interesting. And the crystal malt is simply too bland.

Not a bad little beer, but I probably will not seek it out again.

355ml bottle poured into pint glass 6/11/11

A darker then cola with just enough clarity to see a shitload of carbonation feeding a short lived mocha head that leaves a few random patches of lace

S some smoked meat and milk chocolate with prunes

T molasses with a little nutty chocolate to go with the dark dried fruit

M fairly light for the color but it is a lager after all, quite well carbonated and a fairly clean finish just a little chocolate lingers

O decent but basic, nothing to set this one apart and no reason not to finish it

yet another underwhelming beer out of my mixed 8 pack. I can't see myself buying it again, not that their bad beers but I've yet to be truly impressed for the cost

Liking this one as it combines a strong burnt malt , smoky flavour with a very drinkable finish. Mouthfeel is spot on for the style and the beer has a complexity to the taste that often dark lagers lack. Would like to try this again but sadly it only comes in the 8 pack in BC

Pours dark brown, amber hues on the edges with a nice amount of lacing from the cream colored head. Minimal legs, looks toasty.

Toasty indeed along some light caramel sweetness. For the most part the nose is muted, kinda monotone with the toastiness.

Chocolates, a tea like bittering flavor sweeps across the mouth, dont know what to make of it. Some toasty notes, not as much as the nose though. A dominant amount of nuttiness accompanies the chocolates. Everything is in small doses though. A little spicy in the back.

Light body (4/10), somewhat complex, and easy to drink. Easily a session beer, had 4 of these the other night & was feelin damn good. If I recall correctly, was $7.99 for a 6pack at Total Wine & More. Good deal, looking forward to more Lakefront stuff!

A dark lager is nice once in a while. This one is good for the style. It is clean, refreshing, and ,alty, as it should be. Mine isn't very cold, but perhaps it should be warmer yet.

It is a nice balance of hoppy and malty, with the emphasis on malty. Overall it is a nice experience, but I won't be seeking it out for repeat tasting.

Pours a dark brown with amber hues, very small light tan head that fades quickly into a partial cap, moderate lacing.

Aroma of light roasted malt with a hint of dark chocolate.

Taste starts a slight toffee sweetness, balanced by a roasted malt with a slight after taste.

Mouthfeel was light to medium body, moderate carbonation, smooth but a little thin.

Overall an average beer, lacks a little crispness, not sure if I would run to the store to buy.
