With this offering from Lakefront Brewery, the Klisch, I had a 12oz bottle poured into a pint/nonic glass.

A - it has a cloudiness to it, giving the beer a golden-blonde appearance. It only produced about 1/4 inch of foamy white head at the top.

S - very light hops, slight citrus note as well.

T - the malt seems to be the main note on the palate. There is no noticeable amount of hops, the beer is crisp, clean, and slightly sweet on the finish.

M - medium to full-bodied, it is very smooth. It has perhaps a bit of chewiness to it due to the slight cloudiness.

O - I did enjoy the Klisch from Lakefront. It is an easy drinking beer, not overly complex and straight forward. A very nice refreshing beer to drink on a hot summer day.

Appearance: Pours a hazy honey color with a very modest head; no lacing to speak of

Smell: Very bready, with a lightly sweet edge

Taste: Bready, up front and in the middle, until a grassy hop character arrives; surprisingly, the hops fade, after the swallow, and the malts take it up a notch, adding a graham cracker sweetness

Mouthfeel: Light body with moderate carbonation

Overall: Rather disappointing - a bit too sweet, the hops add very little and the mouthfeel is just all wrong for the style

12 oz bottle poured into a Pilsner glass.
Bottled Apr Wk 3 notched on label.

A - Bright golden yellow and shimmering with clarity, Klisch produces a nice thick white head. Sustained retention leaves some spots of sticky lacing on the glass.

S - Sure as shit, Klisch smells like a genuine Czech Pilsner! Sweet pilsner malts are at the forefront while floral noble hops add balance and an interesting nuances to this clean, inviting lager.

T - Crisp and light malts with a delicate honey-like sweetness cross the palate followed by an ever-so-slight hint of light white grape on the finish. A small but detectable light floral hop characteristic rounds this beer out.

M - The soft water is a bit slick on the palate, but this pilsner has great body. Not watery at all, it's medium bodied with an overarching sweetness that's balanced by hop bitterness and dryness on the finish.

O - Going down with no complaints, Klisch is one hell of a refreshing and well-balanced pilsner. Round from start to finish, subtle Saaz noble hop notes gently back up the sweet pilsner malt beautifully. Supremely drinkable (we used to do boots of this when I had it on tap at home) Klisch Pilsner bridges the gap between no-brain lawnmower lager and nearly perfectly brewed definition of a style.

Reviewed from notes taken at a cask party.

This particular cask had a placard in front of it claiming that it had been dry-hopped, but did not go so far as to explain with what variety of hops. The server on duty at the time did not know either.

Poured out a rather clouded golden straw color with a fizzy single finger of evaporating head (room temp cask) and no lacing at all, but the aroma was absolutely filled with a combination of white pear juice and fresh grassy herbals over the top of a crackery malt. Oh man did it ever smell like it was going to be an sweeter German Pilsner, but it really surprised me by presenting a standard dry Czech pilsner flavor through and through. The finish was clean and crisp, and the refreshingly carbonated lighter body was absolutely true to style. It's just that...it smelled like a sweeter German Pilsner yet tasted like a drier Czech Pilsner. And while I would normally knock a lot of points off my review for false style advertising, the image of the bottle shown above merely has the world "pilsner" alone on the label, a legal loophole in my self-imposed criteria!

So I therefore tentatively recommend trying this one if you are curious about what the two styles of pilsner would taste like blended together. Its weird, but weirdness does not necessarily equal badness in this case.

Poured into Samual Adams Perfect Pint. Bottled October, week 2, 2011

A - Light straw in color. Little white head that collapses to a tiny ring around the top with no lacing. Has a slight haze to it.

S - Very nice clean bready malt right up front. Some pleasant herbal/spicy hop notes are easily detected.

T - Clean malt profile that keeps this light beer balanced. Faint herbal hop flavor throughout. Not all that dry but a nice mildly spicy hop kiss at the end.

M - Light in body, medium carbonation.

O - I enjoyed this beer but never got any distinguishing traits to set itself apart. Quite enjoyable with good hop flavor.
