British-style E.S.B. (Extra Special Bitter)
The country’s oldest certified organic beer with 100% organic ingredients, including the hops. Our classic, British-style extra-special bitter pours a brilliant copper with a foamy, off-white head. Organic bravo hops lend a citrusy bite to the malty flavor to yield a very refreshing taste.

Appearance: Light copper-orange, certainly not as brown in tone as most ESBs. Medium clarity, brief 1/4 inch head that didn't linger or leave much lacing. Low viscosity.
Aroma: Coppery hops, with liht orange notes. Hints of chocolate and cocoa malts.
Taste: Biscuity, sour lime finish - not at all what I expected. Hops are balanced and malts develop over the course of a glass. Honey and chocolate notes in the malt. Yeast finish with pleasant bitterness to the aftertaste. Front and middle palates are a little lacking, and the citric acid finish seems a little oppressive at times.
Mouthfeel: Good fizz - not super smooth, but far from rough. Carbonation settles down over the course the bottle.
Drinkability: Not my favorite ESB, and not super drinkable - I'm hoping I got a bad bottle, as the tart finish was distracting and the beer lacked all the subtlety that I normally expect of ESBs as a style. There was definitely a nice set of flavors in there, but they often had a hard time coming through; more initially palate development might have helped here. I'm planning on returning to this beer, and will hopefully have reason then to adjust my review.

I seem to have a recent penchant for running through the bottle portion of my backlog. I realize that I have been neglecting The CANQuest (tm) as a result, but at the same time, purging these pesky bottles is satisfying.
From the bottle: "Brewed with Organic Malted Barley & Organic Hops"; "Certified Organic by the Oregon Tilth"; "Brewed in Milwaukee for people who like beer."
I like Milwaukee, I like beer, I like people & I like to Pop! the cap on a bottle of beer. Once this was accomplished, I used a gentle pour to fill my glass, followed by an in-glass swirl. This raised a brief finger of foamy, tawny head with low retention. Color was Amber to Deep Amber/Light Copper (SRM = > 13, < 17) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had a hay-like, grassy, bready quality, reminiscent of home-baked bread during the summer at my grandparents' house. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was a bit sweeter than I might have liked, but it was definitely malty with a light, grassy hoppiness to go with it. Finish was semi-sweet, which is a part of the style. It caused me to realize that I do not drink all that many ESBs, but I had no problem with this one.

Auburn, light, thin white head, smallish. Not much going on smell wise.
Taste was dull, lifeless for an esb. Needs more bitter, hops. Too much wet newspaper.
