Pours a syrupy dark brown almost black color with a cola colored head that recedes to a thin lace rather quickly. Smells immediately and strongly of dark roasted coffee with subtle scents of dark chocolate.
Medium body and more carbonation then I expected, almost like a coffee flavored soda. Tastes of dark chocolate malts and caramel with a huge amount of bitter coffee flavor upfront masking almost all of the other flavors. Interesting but the flavor is almost entirely coffee. Not much balance, and the perceived bitterness is a coffee like bitterness not a hoppy one.
This beer is strange in that it has flavors you'd expect to come across as sweet but they dont. At the same time there is no lingering bitterness either. Unique for sure.
You definitely have to like coffee to enjoy this brew. I wish some of the other flavors were pronounced more as the combination of the flavors is nice just not balanced enough.
If you like drinking black coffee though you'll love this. I'd also like to add that the beer exceeded my expectations so that was nice. Not a bad beer at all.

APPEARANCE: A dark brown color with an light tan foam, carbonation appears strong. Good clarity, head retention is less than average.
SMELL: Coffee, Malt, and Chocolate Liquor aromas are the standouts in the nose.
TASTE: The taste is roasted and bitter, with some iced coffee elements as well. Coffee grounds, raw chocolate, char, and dark breads round out the brew firmly. Though ample bitterness exists, the hop flavor is rather muted. Coffee flavors are not as strong as other stouts brewed with it, but certainly agreeable nonetheless.
FEEL: Medium bodied, well carbonated feel with coffee lingering in the after taste.
OVERALL: Fuel Cafe delivers on the promise of an accessible coffee beer, and it works, but doesn't take it to the next level like some gourmet coffee brews. Barrel aging or adding more quality ingredients could really develop this one into something special.
