a passable but incomplete maibock for me, i am left wanting for more carbonation and a quicker finishing experience, not as spring feeling as the style usually delivers either. caramel colored beer, rather still after a minute, sits lazily in a white wine glass. the nose is sweet from the grain, but a little stale too, not as fresh as it might be. no hops to speak of, and a lager yeast i have seen before. the flavor is a bit one dimensional for me, coppery caramel toffee flavor from the grain, and thats it. no german interest, no balancing hops, not even a drying bready yeast profile to wrap it up. not bad at all, devoid of off flavors or weirdness, but not as interesting or as tradition as i like these to be. the body is big enough for sure, but more bubbles would really help this out. one bottle is enough, especially given the only sort of disguised alcohol strength. not bad, but i wont miss not having it in my fridge anymore.

12 oz. bottle, with bottled on date 01/08/2014 printed on the bottleneck. Another new beer to me from Lakefront Brewery, not a brewery or a style I am too familiar with, and my expectations are moderate. My bottle lists a 7.60% abv instead of 7.10% abv.
Poured into a clear balloon snifter.
A - Pours a bright golden orange colored body with just over a finger of fluffy off-white head. Almost IPA-like in appearance. Some nice soapy lacing. Looks good for what it is.
S - Smell is okay, but not entirely pleasing. Musty yeast presence, a bit of graininess / huskiness, corn, faint alcohol fumes, some buttery diacetyl, lightly floral hoppiness, & lots of apple / pear / banana presence. A bit of earthy woodiness and some smoke / char elements also present.
T - Taste follows the nose - grainy, bready, malty, apple / pear / banana, & light floral hopping. The malt steals the show here. Not harsh or offensive, but boring & poor depth of flavor. Some white peppery spicing, bubblegum, and other Belgian elements present themselves at times, also.
M - Feel is sticky and grainy. Semi-dry finish, medium bodied, and hefty carbonation.
Overall, a forgettable outing from Lakefront Brewery; these guys have failed to impress me yet again. I suppose I would recommended it to fans of the style, but it wasn't exactly what I would call an easy drinker, and I wouldn't have it again.
