My first ever IPA, unfortunately, I didn't notice that it was bottled almost 15 months prior to when I drank it. Other than it being flat and a bit skunky, it wasn't bad. Looks great, tasted decent. Hopefully I can try it again soon when it's a bit fresher.

This IPA is a GEM......the ONLY problem with it might be its "drinkability"....it is so good....and so smooth....that a "ROOKIE" might NOT notice that it packs an above average 6.6% ABV......AWESOME job Lakefront Brewery!

BOD 1/27/15. Slightly hazy medium amber pour. Outstanding head volume, lacing and retention.

Light nose of pine and citrus hops over a light biscuit.

Light medium body that is rather smooth. Slightly above normal carbonation with a decent middle effervescence and a nice finish.

The outstanding flavor profile is intense, a bit complex and expertly balanced. It begins with a blend of citrus and pine hop flavor, that has a slight grapefruit rind quality. As the middle approaches, a slight orange note appears along with a soft biscuit sweetness. The middle produces a mild bitterness underneath the dominant hop flavors. The finish is a slow fade of grapefruit rind flavor and bitterness.

Poured from the tap into a pint glass at the Biergarten in Charleston, SC.
Aroma- Hops and fruit, great blend.
Appearance- A hazy orange amber with a medium sized white head.
Taste- A really nice IPA flavor mix of hops, malt and fruit.
Palate- A medium bodied beer with moderate carbonation, I really like the smooth finish.
Overall- An outstanding beer, I never heard of this beer before i ordered it. I will drink it again.

Meh. Very malty. Reminded me of a "lite" Dogfish Head 90 Min.

Edit: this was poured from a bottle at an airport bar (in Milwaukee--read: local). Didn't get to check the date on bottle for freshness before it was taken from me...and after reading other [significantly more positive] reviews, I'm wondering if I got an old/bad bottle...

bready leading to some sweetness. Hops are very present but not very powerful. Orange in the taste, lemon zest and grass in the nose. Still some malted sweetness.

Bottled sample. A fairly standard IPA - heavy floral notes with a little caramel/bready malt sweetness. Not one I would go back to again and again but will do in a pinch.

We don't normally get this in my state, but somehow a bottle ended up on a singles shelf locally. Bottled 5/29/14 so WAY past its prime, but I'm gonna take a stab at reviewing it anyway.

Poured from the 12 oz. bottle into a Unibroue stemmed flute.

a; Slightly hazy orange with an inch plus thick white head which receded slowly to heavy even surface foam and very dense lacing. Looking great so far!

s: Slight light fruit.

t: Somewhat fruity biscuit malt followed by a moderate hop bite which lingered at the back sides of the tongue through the otherwise dry finish.

m; Medium, nice body, moderate carbonation tingle.

o: Obviously a top quality IPA. Probably had more winning flavor when fresh, but still a good quaff, sips nicely to go with its near perfect look and mouthfeel.

Picked this up as part of a mixed box of beer that Lakefront put out. Mainly clear yellow-orange pour with a foamy white two finger head with decent retention and lacing. The nose is a nice balance between citrusy, piney hops and caramel malt with hints of grapefruit and tropical fruit. The taste is more hop forward with lots of pine and citrus and some nice herbal notes. Hints of grapefruit, caramel, orange peel, grass, and toffee. The mouthfeel is tangy and oily with great balance and a nice dry, tangy, bittersweet finish. Overall, this one grew on me. A solid, well balanced, and drinkable IPA.

A: Pours a somewhat cloudy orange/goldish color, had a nice one finger white head at the top and left a slight lacing around the glass.

S: Pine, honey, lemongrass, earthy nose, some caramel is also present and some grapefruit as well.

T: The taste follows the nose lots of grapefruit, and some pine and caramel notes throughout, some earthyness to it as well.

M: Warming, medium bodied, sticky and dry, and a good amount of carbonation.

O: Overall a good brew, not to bitter and good amount of flavors, well balanced. I feel like Wisconsin is stepping their game up when it comes to craft beer these days, good brew and well balanced.

A - A golden/orange color.Not too much head on my pour, but maybe I was being too careful.

S - Citrus/hoppy

T - It has the IPA bite, which is nice. Not as dominant and sharp as some of my other more-preferred favorites. It's more smooth, and I think that "casual" IPA drinkers would really like something like this. It's worth noting I had this from the bottle - I'd really like to try this on draft.

M - Thins is a good word to describe this. Not full at all, the texture of a light domestic.

O - I've had some "really good" IPA's, and I've had "good" IPA's. Right now, this one fits in with the latter. I do think that if I were to have this on draft it could be "really good". It's also worth noting that I'm drinking this after it was bottled over 3 months ago, so I owe it to Lakefront Brewery to try a fresh one. I'll definitely come back to this one at a later date.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle into pint glass.

A-Hazy, orange with a thin layer of suds which lingered.

S-Pine, citrus, bitter orange

T-Same as smell with a nice, light caramel sweetness on the finish. Good balance.

M-Feels a little thin. Cleans out pretty quickly with some residual bitterness. A good drinker for sure.

O-I've had this before and didn't think it stood up. However, today, it's hitting the spot. Bottled ab out 2 months ago. Perhaps last time was too old.

A- Very nice copper-amber color with some real nice thickness, not clear at all. Very appetizing beer.

S- Smooth blend of citrus and hops. The citrus overwhelms the hops just a bit.

T- Again, the citrus is a bit overtaking of the hops, but a real smooth blend. It has a mild sour taste that lingers with the after taste.

M- It's a happy beer, simple mix, the everyman's IPA. Much like Milwaukee, not over the top, but impressing for some difficult to understand reason. I very personable beer. No one attribute makes this beer, it's just a very good blend that isn't made for everyone, like some IPAs.It's fresh, and opening.

Overall, being from Milwaukee I'm a bit biased, but honestly say it's not my bottom bitch. I love everything Lake Front offers, and this is a staple beer for me I can pick up and enjoy anytime, very versatile. This beer can fit into any outing, party or situation. Great outdoors, fine sittin' around, goes great with pizza, is nice with a fancy pasta...probably not a steak but whatever...I would suggest this as a top tier IPA for anyone.

A: somewhat hazy; burnt orange color; even with an aggressive pour, almost no head; some lacing;

S: subdued; a little pine, tropical fruit, and a touch of smokiness;

T: well balanced, but not a lot of anything; a slight bit of bitterness on the short finish;

M: medium bodied; light carbonation;

O: this wasn't bad, but it seemed a little weak; if it had more aroma, more flavor, more bitterness, and more carbonation, I would have liked it a lot more;

Growler filled at Cranbury Buy-rite.

Poured into a DFH large snifter.

Pours a rich amber color with a finger of sticky foam. Aroma is full of blueberry and citrus hops - a nice sweet fruity smell.

First sip is a rush of crystal sweetness that quickly fades and leaves a lingering citrus hop flavor. Finishes dry, despite the initial sweet flavors.

This is a very balanced IPA - nothing overpowering here. A nice mix of malt and hops, with a dry finish makes this very easy to drink.

Solid beer, but not mindblowing. Nothing to complain about, just a great quaffable brew.

Served on tap in a pint glass

Appearance – The beer is served a lightly hazed golden orange color with a one finger head of billowy white foam. The head fades rather quickly leaving foamy rings of lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the beer is quite heavy of a citrus hop smell of grapefruit and pine. Along with the hoppy smells comes some more malty aromas with both a bready and light caramel aroma. A of a tangerine smell mixes in with the rest, creating a sweeter smell overall.

Taste – The taste is much drier than anticipated from the nose. It begins with a more cracker like flavor with a bit of a caramel sweetness. Right from the start there is a decent sum of a grapefruit hop that grows stronger as the flavor moves onto the end. Along with the grapefruit growing stronger, some pine hop and a bit of herbal hop work their way onto the tongue. The caramel that was present upfront, fades away all while the hops increase, and in the end the combination of flavors leaves a drier and rather resinous bitter flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is on the higher side. The thicker body really accentuates the hop flavors nicely as the higher carbonation is nice for the cracker flavors creating a some-what crisp feel.

Overall – A drier and crisper IPA with a decently bitter hop bite. A fairly nice drinker.

Poured from a bottle to a pint glass

A- Dark amber, darker than most IPA's. Thick foamy head that lasts for about half the glass.

S- Hints of mint and wheat. Not much citrus or hops.

T- Very surprising for an IPA. The taste is very reflective of the smell. There is not a lot of hops going on here. Has a very smooth finish. No bitterness in sight.

M- Smooth. Smooth. Smooth. Has a full body for an IPA.

O- This is a unique IPA. The bitterness that most IPAs favor is not here. There are some hints and tones of citrus but are hidden by the wheat and malt flavor that is dominant.

Has something in suspension, whether hop particles or colloid yeast, that gives it obscurity through amber hues. The head is a sticky soapy collar of white foam that sticks around and becomes residual, like beaten egg whites.

Herbal nose with bright green leaf and citrusy freshness. Unripe papaya, green grapefruit, fresh peppermint, and thin pineyness summarizes the hoppy elements. All of this plays lead over a minimalist dry pale malt that reminisce with notes of salty cracker. Subtle note of seaweed salad in here.

The hops are very similar to what was sensed in the aroma. A simple bitter leaf, nearly-astringent floral character, and green fruits and fruit rinds; more grapefruit, a hint of lime, mintiness, and smallest of all, pine. Tastes like it was brewed with a more minerally water. Malts are just a tad sweeter than anything offered in the nose, but still very dry and clean.

Crunchy carbonation that dissipates after being chewed through. The rest of the body has that appealing mouth-whoosh that I love in a dry IPA. A little grainy in the end, the way I like it.

A solid IPA from a brewery that, I believe, just came to PA. I will have to remember to go to this one from time to time for a little change of pace.

Poured in a pint glass from 12oz bottle

Appearance: Golden brown, almost orange in the light. Very thing head remains after the pour.

Smell: Floral hops and a slight citrus hop in the background

Taste: Very mild and sweet malt on the tongue, of biscuit and caramel. Light bitterness on the tongue but after swallowing the bitterness lingers, very pleasantly. Almost a little too weak and watery for my taste. Carbonation is just right and the hop flavor is suttle, but well balanced.

Mouthfeel: Lacking what I was looking for, I had this on tap in Milwaukee and remembered more body and the desire to finish my pint quickly! This didn't have the same affect, very thin with a watered-down mix.

Not a bad IPA, from my opinion it was much better on tap. Definitely a good beer to have around and for the price at my local craft brew shop I don't regret grabbing this one.

I enjoy the hoppy brews ... so this evening I cracked open this BIG EYE P A (part of a personal 6-pk from Total Wine).

Refreshing taste ... slightly fruity. Sweet aroma. Very smooth, not overpowering with the hops. Less bitter than I expected. Thumbs up.

12 oz. bottle, with bottled on date 12/04/2013 printed on the bottleneck. Finally getting around to trying this staple beer from Lakefront Brewery, acquired as part of a mixed six pack at the local Binny's.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - Pours a murky burnt sienna orange with a finger and a half of fluffy khaki head. Nice head retention, and thin strands of scattered lacing. Looks pretty nice.

S - Smell is nice - caramel malt breadiness, green apple, fruity yeast must, light spruce / pine / grapefruit / herbal hoppiness, earthy and twiggy, with some tea leaf like sweetness.

T - Taste follows the nose - bready caramel malt, green apple, musty earthy yeast, herbal & piney, grapefruit bitterness, and some twiggy tea leaf sweetness.

M - Feel is crisp and clean, with lingering caramel malt, and green apple stickiness. Mildly resinous hop presence.

Overall, a solid drinking, easy going IPA with a moderate 6.60% abv, although it lies firmly within the realm of the typical IPA. Glad to have tried it, but there isn't much here to set it apart from the rest of the pack. Still, I would have it again.

S-hint of pine on the intial pour

T-big tasty American IPA , spicy on the lips

MF-? carbonation , seems to feel full bodied

Ov-ok beer , decent IPA , get past the slight funky carbonation/appearance and enjoy this beer
