Lakefront Brewery 'IPA' @ 6.9% , served from a couple of 12 fl oz bottles purchased for $2.60 each

A-pour is a pale gold from the bottle to a slightly hazy/murky gold in the glass with a small off-white head which is quickly dissapating leaving a minimal lace ring along the pint

S-hint of pine on the intial pour

T-big tasty American IPA , spicy on the lips

MF-? carbonation , seems to feel full bodied

Ov-ok beer , decent IPA , get past the slight funky carbonation/appearance and enjoy this beer

Poured one and a half bottles into an impy pint glass a hazed burnt orange color with a thick foamy white head that leaves a half ring of broken lace as it settles.Leafy hops dominate with a bit of orange marmalade in the nose, not in ur face hoppy.Great hop hop complexity on the palate ranging from grassy/herbal to ctric smash, a sweetish caramel base holds up to the hops.Wow Ianice IPA here with great complexity,a great midwestern IPA.

A - Pours a hazy copper with a one-finger white head. Nice amount of lacing.

S - I get a lot of floral hops and not much else.

T - Lots of sweet malt upfront. The middle has a nice amount of citrus. Finih has a nice hop bitterness.

M - Full bodied with medium bodied. Finish is dry.

O - Decent IPA. Flavorful and easy drinking.

Poured this from a bottle with a amber color with some lacing a small head. A mild smell of hops is noted, subtle hints of pine and citrus also present. Taste is very smooth with combined citrus and malt with follow up by a mild bitter. Overall, this beer felt very light and would definitely have again

Pours out to a thin white head with little lacing (could be a dirty glass?) and clear amber color. Aroma is hop forward with mostly piney-spicy hops and pale and crystal malts. Flavor is light, hoppy and has a light, clean malt backdrop with a clean finish. Mouthfeel is light. Overall, a good easy drinking and nearly sessionable IPA.

Amber in color, small white head, sticky lacing around the top of the glass.

Aroma is fairly well balanced a little bit of malt and a little bit of hops. Nothing big coming out in the nose.

Malty body, slight hop taste, little bit of a bitter finish.

Medium mouthfeel, good carbonation.

An okay beer, more of an amber ale than an IPA. There are no aromas of hops, not hop flavor, and only a little hop finish. I like the balanced crisp taste of the beer but an IPA it is not.

Poured from bottle into glass. Dated 11/12/13. Drank 1/9/14.

A - Nice off-white/tan-ish head, attractive persistent lacing. Somewhat cloudy, more brown or amber in color than most IPAs. Beautiful.

S - Mildly hoppy smell, balanced out by faint but pleasant hints of malt? Not quite sure. Kind of subdued compared to the taste.

T - Begins with a wave of hoppy bitterness, then recedes into a more balanced and clean aftertaste. This might be too light for some people's preferences, but I prefer a more drinkable IPA like this.

M - Full, rich mouthfeel that coats the palette.

O - I am impressed that this beer can be so full in flavor, but finish so smoothly. With the current popularity of the IPA style there is a crowded market out there, but this one is done so tastefully that I think it's a solid representation of the style without going overboard. This would make a good introduction for someone unaccustomed to IPAs.

DATE TASTED: December 5, 2013... GLASSWARE: Howard's Pub glass...OCCASION: the night before Trans-Siberian Orchestra with Bob and Jer... APPEARANCE: hazy, almost unfiltered amber-orange body; thick, craggy two-finger head lacing is erratic... AROMA: fragrant, floral hops; more exotic citrus than the standard orange/lemon zest; some apple as well--welcoming... PALATE: medium-bodied; warming and full--a bit of bubble too...TASTE: sour and bold; strong for a simple India; strikes a nearly perfect balance between East and West Coast varieties--some pine some lemongrass late...OVERALL: like its label, workmanlike and more than serviceable; not an IPA I was expecting to seek out again, but like many of the mix pack brews from Lakefront, a definite plus...plus,, the alcohol is such subtle stuff at 6.9%!

12 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in a perfect pint glass

A - It is amber with golden highlights. It is topped with three inches of beige head.

S - At first, I noticed the citrus. Then came some pine. Finally, I got some caramel malt.

T - The taste has some floral and citrus flavors. The caramel malt comes through in the middle. The finish has a mild pine bitterness.

M - Medium and smooth. Low carbonation.

O - I was looking forward to trying this beer. I was a little disappointed. There is nothing to make this IPA stand out. It is solid, but not noteworthy.

A - Pours out clear deep gold with one finger of foamy white head little lacing.
S - Some grassy dank scents, caramel malts, slight orange, grapefruit, pine.
T - Lots of sweeter malt up front, caramel and toffee, then you get a mild orange flavor and some light herbal tones, finishes with a dry bread malt flavor.
M - Very chewy and sticky feeling.
O - Its ok, I dont like how it feels, but its got all the main qualities of an AIPA.

Pours a clear amber with a medium tan head. Smells of pine and lemon. Taste begins with some grapefruit rind, then some apricot, then some sweet grain, and finishing with a pine cone finish. Medium mouthfeel. Low, smooth carbonation levels. Overall a good IPA.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a 14 oz "pint" glass. Pours a cloudy orange with a nice fluffy white head. Smells of citrus and piney hops. Tastes of piney hops with a decent backbone of grain. Very sight citrus. Beer is carbonated correctly light bodied and finishes great. Overall a very good beer.

Bottled on 7/30/13. Drank within 3 months.
Nice classic fresh hop aroma of west coast U.S. Sweet, fruity pleasing.
Rather cloudy orange/brown amber. Big full head with sticky lacing.
Lighter body. Reasonably complex drink. Hop flavors and bitterness (which shows, but isn't excessive). Evident malt flavors.
A good solid drinking Am. IPA.

So I've seen this a million times in the store & never bought it (it even has an eyeball on it and I'm an optometrist, so you'd think I'd be all over it, but no). Now it's given to me by a friend because someone left it at his house, and he doesn't like IPA's...

12oz, bottled 4th week of May
A - hazy amber with plenty of chunky yeasties suspended within the ale; topped with a thick, creamy, ivory head that holds good retention, and leaves rings of lacing down the glass
S - malty aroma of bread & caramel, pine & citrus in the background, slight spice & earth also
T - nice bold flavors of both malt & hop: caramel, bread, pine, and pungent grapefruit dominate the palate with toasted grain and spicy hops in there as well
M - fuller body, resiny but still creamy, lingering piney bitter finish
O - this has everything I love in an IPA. I can't believe it took this long to try it and like it as much as I did.

Had this on the heels of the same brewery’s APA. The copper color of both is fairly similar, but this offering had a bolder flavor profile than its little cousin.

The head was big and fluffy and left really nice lacing behind. The nose had only a mild essence of hops. The flavor profile is hop forward, but there is also a tasty floral note mixed in as well. The finish falls a bit shy of the standard hop bitterness for a single IPA. This is a fine offering, but definitely not stellar.

On tap into a pint glass at the Iron Horse Hotel in Milwaukee (reviewed from yesterday's notes).

A-My pour had very little head, just a patchy cap, but that cap left great curtains of lace as I drank my beer. The brew was orange honey in color and hazy.

S-The aroma is very hop-forward, as you might expect for the style, but even so, there was very little doughy, bready malt. The hops are sharp, spicy, mildly bitter, with pine, citrus notes, and chalk. Nice, but not mind-blowing.

T-The taste is also balanced toward the hop side with sharp pine, spiced citrus, a slight chalkiness and mildly dank, herbal bitterness mostly dominating the pale malt base.

M-The brew was medium body with crisp, moderate carb and a slightly oily feel from the hops.

O-This was a pretty good brew and a nice example of the style. The hops are heavy, maybe a bit too much, but they are complex and flavorful, and there is just enough base beer to keep things from getting astringent or totally unbalanced. The feel and lacing were nice, too. Unusual for me to give the same score in all categories, but this beer was just steadily good.

12 oz. bottle poured into a Flying Dog goblet (bottled on 5/14/13)

A: Dark hazy copper with a thick two finger head that has nice lacing and leaves a nice thick film over the beer.

S: Nice citrus prominence with a backbone of sweet pine and just a hint of malts. There is some freshly mown grass in there once you swirl it around.

T: Mostly pine with a mellow malt backbone. Decent aftertaste that lingers for quite a while. Nothing too stellar here and not many varied notes here. It even seems a bit watery the more I drink it.

M: Pretty smooth with a crisp undertone and mellow carbonation.

O: I was surprised when I looked up the ratings for this one since my dad just blindly selected a few beers from the Total Wine in Orlando, FL. It is a decent but overall mediocre IPA from a brewery I had never had of beforehand.

IPA pours a dark copper with a small lacing. There is a nice subtle floral aroma. The taste has a nice enjoyable floral/hoppy flavor, that finishes with a very mellow sweetness. Nice bold hoppy flavors, but not overpowering, and once of the easier drinking IPAs. Overall a very nice flavorful yet drinkable IPA.

Amber color with a two finger head with decent retention and leaving laces.
What a delicious aroma of passion fruit, peaches, flowers and sweet slightly toasted malt.
Nice balanced flavor, fruity and bitter. Citrusy taste of grapefruit and oranges with notes of condimented yeast and sweet slightly roasted malt. Hints of pine and lemongrass. Dry and bitter aftertaste.
Light to medium body with low carbonation. Alcohol is very well hidden.
What a pleasant IPA, great aroma and an elegant flavor. One of the most balanced IPAs I have tasted so far. I could have had several of those in a row. Its hops give more flavor than bitterness, don’t overwhelming your taste buds. Though they feel higher than its 40+ IBUs. Excellent beer that is worth the care to have it with less than 6 months old to enjoy its full greatness. But don’t expect something overly intense.

I picked this up at the Bloomningdale Binny's store as part of a build-your-own 6 pack for $9.99, so it works out to $1.67 a bottle. 12oz brown bottle with a freshness date notched on the side label stating that it was bottled during the 2nd week of January 2013.

The beer poured a hazy orange/copper color with a 1-finger white head. Retention was decent as was the lacing.

Citrusy and floral hops aroma - a nice smel

Dry and biscuity malt spiked with plenty of hop bitterness. Main flavors are pine, grapefruit rind, and herbs. Bitterness lingers long after the swallow.

Creamy smooth, thick, and full bodied with medium carbonation.

This is a good IPA, but can't give it the perfect 100 score that the brothers gave it.

Pours a big, dense, resiny head that has great persistence and collapses into a sloppy puff of lacing. Citrus dominates the nose immediately. Lustrous, copper color. Starts off with big grapefruit hoppiness with a touch of pine sap resin, build into a floral character as a good medium bitterness hits. As this peaks, it becomes citrus rind. The finish is lingering hop resin, but not too much bitterness. A great, silky mouthfeel.

This is a really nice IPA. I love Wisconsin/Midwest IPA's like this one because they really are hoppy, but they de-emphasize that lingering bitterness. I LOVE when a brewer understands that more IBU's does NOT mean it will be more awesome.
Everything you want from the hops, but none of the lingering bitterness that ruins your palate.

I had this with a 6-year Wisconsin cheddar. The combination was sublime. The refined nature of this IPA pairs perfectly with such an old cheddar; This IPA is more balanced than you'd expect, just as the cheddar is.

Here's another off the radar IPA for me. Pours a dark orange, amber with a little white head that increases as it sits. Loads of lacing and noticeably unfiltered! Smell from the bottle is nice. Fairly stable throughout. Taste isn't spectacular, but good nonetheless. Very good hop character and balance! Glad I stumbled upon this one!

A: Slightly cloudy and rust-colored. Some sticky and off-white head, which rapidly disappears.

S: Very little. Distant notes of caramel and wood chips.

T: Pretty forgettable hoppiness with a noticeable malt back. A slight lingering sour, almost bilious aftertaste.

M: Thinner and more elusive than I'd like. Still a bit mouthwatering in that resiny IPA way.

O: Not bad, but nothing I'd want to try again.

Try it again? 2 - Probably not.

Poured into becker pint glass. Slightly cloudy yellow-orange with a thick dense white head that isn't going anywhere. Leaves tons of lacing as it (very) slowly fades. Smells of all hops, mostly sweet fruity ones. Taste is very clean and crisp, with clear crackery malt but lots of hop flavor too, although sans the bitterness. A delicious take on the style, hoppy but not palate-destroying.
