A: somewhat hazy; burnt orange color; even with an aggressive pour, almost no head; some lacing;

S: subdued; a little pine, tropical fruit, and a touch of smokiness;

T: well balanced, but not a lot of anything; a slight bit of bitterness on the short finish;

M: medium bodied; light carbonation;

O: this wasn't bad, but it seemed a little weak; if it had more aroma, more flavor, more bitterness, and more carbonation, I would have liked it a lot more;

A - Medium, golden-brown color. Gentle carbonation with a thin head which dissipated quickly.

S - light, citrusy hop aroma, but hardly a hint of malt.

T - Faint grapefruit on the light side. Overall, there is more focus on bitterness than the malt can back up / balance up. A mild alcohol taste in the finish.

M - Coats tongue without feeling syrupy. Thick feel, given the appearance. Non-offensive, but low carbonation.

D - Neither a chore nor a great pleasure to drink. I feel I would just as soon move on to another beer as I would open another of this brew.

All around, just an average IPA in my book. I've had it in the past and remember it being better than this. The date on the bottle shows it's pretty fresh, but I'll review it again in the future to see if it's just this batch or if my tongue is on the fritz.

Lakefront IPA
Served from a bottle and poured into a snifter.

Appears a dark orange gold. A small head is maintained with decent lacing.

Smells mildly of hops and not too bitter, piney, or fruity. A little underwhelming for an IPA.

Tastes is underwhelming too. This us an IPA?  Pushing it as a pale ale!

Mouthfeel is nothing special. It's appearance led me to thick that it wouldn't be so watery.

Overall I'm not impressed at all. One of the least favorite IPAs I've had in memory.

Nothing wrong with this beer, but nothing to remember either.

Pours hazy orange with a big fluffy head and amazingly sticky lacing. There were bits of sediment floating in it from a vigorous pour. The aroma is slight and orange-like, with a hint of slightly sour grain behind it. The flavor is a bit malty and bready, with some slightly bitter orange and lemon character. The bitterness is slight and quick to dissipate. The mouthfeel is surprisingly thin, though there remains a sneaky new layer of bitterness on the finish.

Not bad.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Pours cloudy orange copper with a finger white foam. Sticky w/ lacing. Some swirling sediemnt.

Citrus smell, coupled with a light pine.

Taste is a constant hop wrapped around a mild malt that gives way to a low to medium bitter aftertaste. Good carbonation adds to the mix.

Middle of the road IPA. Drinkable.

A 12 ounce bottle purchased at Abe's in Bethlehem for $2. Poured into my nonic Imperial pint glass. Appears a hazed greenish-yellow color with about two full fingers of fluffy off white foam. The head leaves a minimal lacing on the inside of my glass as it fades. Smells and tastes of floral hops, light caramel malts, slightly sour, pine, and lemon. The nose builds you up and then you are hit with a huge letdown in the taste. Thin, watery body with medium carbonation. One and done for me. I hope this was just a dud bottle.

Bottled during the 4th week of March (presumably 2011)

A - A very hazy orangy body with substantial frothy offwhite head. It recedes quickly but leaves some heavy lacing initially. I prefer more clarity in my IPAs

S - Pine resin and pine needles are very prominent, some sweet citrus notes also. Decent smell.

T - Hops have really faded in just over a month. Bitterness is barely perceptible, and true hop flavors give way to light malt notes. This is apparently an IPA that demands freshness.

M - Fine, light, a bit dry. Relatively smooth.

O (D) - a fine beer, probably rather tasty when fresh. It's decent, but with so many stellar IPAs out there, this one has a lot of improving to do before it becomes my go-to.

Poured from Bottle into Pint glass.

Pours a hazy orange with a finger and a half of frothy slightly off-white head that is slow to dissolve. Aroma is orange peel, citrus hops and some skunked aroma not sure what it is. The flavor has sweet bitter grapefruit upfront followed by some caramel and biscuit malt. Sweetness and soft bitterness lingers in the aftertaste of this beer.There is a strong presence of alcohol in this beer which is not very flattering. Its medium bodied and and a little chewy. I'm slightly torn with this beer while the aroma is alright there is that "skunked" character and the flavor is actually pretty nice but the alcohol is a little too noticeable.

A - Clear sunset orange-amber with a nice thick three finger head. This head looks solid, thick, and dense and leaves tons of really pretty arcs of lace on the glass. Big sheets of foam wash down the glass after a swirl, leaving crusty sea foam webwork behind. Nice!

S - Mandarin orange, tangerine, tangelo, and apricot notes play on top of a fruit-cookie or home made fruit-bar base. The mandarin orange hop notes are pleasantly mellow, but don't strip the lining from inside your nose like an IPA really should. Nice, but a little underpowered.

T - Floral, perfume-y, and soapy hops taste British in origin. That nice mandarin note from the nose is replaced by a more flowery note that I don't like as much. Dry crumbly hard bread makes up the malt component, and balances the hops nicely. Lots of mineral flavors here too.

M - Medium bodied, oily, highly carbonated, and finishing extremely dry and sandy.

D - Not one of my favorites. This looks great, smells weak, and tastes off. I can see why a lot of reviewers liked this one, but the flowery and perfume-y notes, combined with a very mineral-laded flavor turned me off.

Picked up a single 12 ounce bottle of this at Hop City in Atlanta. According to the bottle, this was bottled in the first week of February, making this beer about four months old. Pours a hazy copper color. Huge head on this one. Need to let this one sit to for a few minutes to let the head die down. Smell is slightly hoppy, with some light floral undertones. Sort of musky as well. Bitter hop taste in the beginning and evolves into a slightly malty backbone. Lot of carbonation make this one a sipper. Overall, decent. Not my favorite IPA though.

Not my favorite IPA by a long shot. It is a good looking beer, it has a nice hazy orangey hued tint to the copper color. It has a nice creamy off white head that laces all over the glass and retains quite well. The appearance is the best part and it goes down from there. The nose on the beer is kind of an earthy citrus smell, and not indicative of an IPA at all. There are sweet clove or apricot like aromas coming from this beer, but no real hop distinctiveness. There is also a slight mustiness in there as well.

The taste is also quite disappointing. Essentially, what happened to the bittering hops. I'm getting a whole lot of citrus sweetness, some creamy biscuitiness in the background, but just no hop. This is really pushing the line on what an American IPA should be. It's drinkable, not bad on its own account, but a really sub-standard IPA.

Perhaps my bottle from the sample pack was not up to snuff.
My iPa was bland, not iPa like at all compared to other reviews.

It poured ok, nice amber color, no big head just tan , not much other than spotted lace.

Aroma of pine, citric hop though mild.

Taste bland for an iPa. No big hop bite but rather malty and thin.

Overall if I can find another single or even on tap I'll try again but based on what I've had, not buying 6 of these.

Poured into a pint glass from 12oz bottle.

A- Pours a nice deep golden color that is pretty clear. Nice 1/2 inch off white head from a hard pour that went away and stayed at an 1/8 inch head leaving some decent lacing on the sides of the glass.

S- From first smell I can detect an underlying big malt backbone (this isn't the freshest I found out later). Some piney hops are making their way to me now. A low alcohol smell can be detected as well.

T- Not as malty as I got from the smell. The hops seemed to keep up with the aged beer (around 3 months). Alcohol sneeks up on you after the piney hops die down. This is really a shell of it's old former self.

M- This beer is nicely carbinated and has a medium mouthfeel to it. I would suspect that at one point in time this beer would be all over your palate leaving a nice hoppy resin over it but not this time.

D- I could drink this beer right now if I had to. I would drink this beer a lot more if it were fresh. I drain poured it about half way through.

I know this review reflects on the age of the beer and when I have had it fresh I did like it. But as of right now...it's a no go.

Poured into a le Cheval Blanc pint glass.

Pours a hazy, chunky (yeasty bits) orange with a big, rocky offwhite head. Head stands up, looks like there will be lacing.

Aromas of big, citrusy, piney hops, grapefruit, grapefruit zest, orange. If there's any malt, I don't detect it.

Flavors of subdued grapefruit, almost diluted. From the aroma, I expect a bigger, more puckering bitterness, this is rather restrained. Finish is short, with bitter grapefruit zest lingering into the fade.

Mouthfeel is light, very slight pull from the bitterness. Not aggressive at all.

Overall a rather relaxed IPA, subdued, no palate fatigue from this one, but also not what most hopheads are looking for. I'd like a little more bitterness.

Amber in color, small white head, sticky lacing around the top of the glass.

Aroma is fairly well balanced a little bit of malt and a little bit of hops. Nothing big coming out in the nose.

Malty body, slight hop taste, little bit of a bitter finish.

Medium mouthfeel, good carbonation.

An okay beer, more of an amber ale than an IPA. There are no aromas of hops, not hop flavor, and only a little hop finish. I like the balanced crisp taste of the beer but an IPA it is not.

The Lakefront IPA poured a orangish yellow color with a 1-2 finger foam head and not much in the way of lacing.

Aroma was decent and gave a clean hop smell with grapefruit and pine. The taste was malty more than what I am used to. It was gentle and soft in the mouth not making much of presence. It was definitely middle of the road in the wide IPA field.

Pours a firey orange golden with a white head. Aroma was biscuit and orange, lot of rind and some of the fruity sugars. Flavor was bright orange, again lots of rind with some of the fruit sugars thrown in, all on top of a biscuit malt underbelly. Active, medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, an alright brew. Easy to to drink but not one I plan on drinking again.
