1 pint 6 oz bottle - Brewed 2nd week in December

Per the bottle: 45IBU,16 degrees Plato, 18 degrees Lovibond:

Poured a deep murky red with an off white head that produced an excellent cascade effect. The head was well retained throughout the drink. Some nice lacing as well.

Nice, modest pine hoppy aroma with some malt characteristics.

Nice balanced taste with perhaps some pine hop domination.

Medium feel, smooth, creamy and easy to drink. The beer finishes with a nice dry, hoppy aftertaste.

Overall, the red ale is rapidly becoming one of my new favorites. This is a solid effort and one that I will defiantly pick up again over the coming months.

Bottle

Thanks for opening this with me, NoSignsOfPain!

Hazy amber body with an inch-high light khaki colored head that leaves irregular lines of lace down the glass.

Biscuity aroma with some pine hop presence and some caramel sweetness. Simple, accessible, enjoyable.

Moderately bitter with simple but enjoyable flavors of biscuit, pine, citrus, and caramel sweetness.

Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Appropriate and very drinkable.

A nice, drinkable, tasty amber. This really was quite good for the style, which isn't one of my favorites.

pours a clear copper with fluffy beige head that produces some nice lacing.

Aromas of citrus (pineapple) hops, light malts and a hint of sweet spice.

Taste has nice citrus flavors, pineapple and canned oranges, biscuity malts and a dry hop resin finish.

Thin to medium mouthfeel, high carbonation, crisp, and slightly dry.

Overall was nicely balanced and had some nice subtleties.

12 oz bottle dated wk1 of April (no year, but new to place of purchase in summer 2012) poured into snifter.

A - pours a cloudy orange-brown with a light tan head. The head is small to begin with and reduces to little more than a ring in no time. Spotty lacing is left on the glass. Appearance is not the strong point of this beer.

S - From the bottle, this has a striking and surprisingly strong aroma of hops. Once decanted, a complex and earthy aroma of herbal and piney hops can be detected from a distance. Caramel malt is also quite evident. There are also some grassy and citrus notes.

T - Very flavorful! What would normally be a solid and dominant malt base actually serves as the background to a complex array of hop flavors, including piney, floral, citrus and herbal. Likewise, this sweet-bitter balance is decidedly won by the bitter components. There's also a light, fruity tartness.

M - Medium body; light-moderate carbonation; dry finish.

O - Fixed Gear is a bold red with a far more forward hop profile than usual, especially in the aroma. Best to think of this as a red APA, it is moderately bitter rather than slightly sweet. As hoppy as many IPAs, this is easily recommended as a "red ale" for hop heads.

A - Dark copper red, poured one finger head from bottle. Dissipated to a thin residual head quickly.

S - Pecan with a hint of citrus on the nose, fairly subdued aroma.

T - Hop bitterness apparent upfront alongside malts, quickly takes over then disappears. Hops are a pronounced for a red and dominate the finish.

M - Doesn't have the smoothness I was looking for, carbonation seems a little sharp.

O - A decent red ale with a good amount of hops, I had this beer a while back on tap and enjoyed the mouthfeel a lot more than I did today. Not bad.

A - nice brownish red with a nice one finger white head. Leaves a nice lacing as it goes down the glass. Looks like you would expect a red to.

S - smell is sweet and surprisingly hoppy. Notes of pineapple really shine while there are also hints of Clementines. Reminds me more of an APA than a red ale. Really nice and fragrant nose on this one.

T - Taste is initially sweet and follows the nose but on the taste clementines dominate but it isn't as sweet as I thought. There is a slight hoppy bitterness that come through. The finish is mostly piney hops that leaves a slight twinge on the tongue. Interesting that they call this a red since reminds me of an APA overall. It is good but a bit one-dimensional

MF - Overall the mouthfeel was a bit thin for the rest of the beer. I would like to see this be a bit thicker with more stickiness to it. This is the part of the beer that prevents this beer from being really outstanding.

O - overall a solid beer that would be easy to knock back. This is good but not too complex. The nose and look are by far the best part of the beer. The taste is good and the MF is a bit disappointing and really prevents this from being a great beer.
