12 oz bottle pours a dark, opaque amber color with a large cap of off-white head. Excellent retention and lace...a good looking brew.

Nose is caramel and toasty malt with a resinous, leafy hop aroma that leans herbal.

Taste is dark, burnt caramel maltiness, almost to dark chocolate levels. The hops are almost all on the bittering side, floral and long-lasting. It tastes pretty old school - old world hops, more bittering than taste/aroma hops and an earthy and char-esque maltiness. Mouthfeel is good, rich and well carbonated. Sweetness is pretty low. I actually am enjoying this, It feels like a tasty throwback to the early days of microbrews in the late 90's/early 2000's.

A - Dark copper red, poured one finger head from bottle. Dissipated to a thin residual head quickly.

S - Pecan with a hint of citrus on the nose, fairly subdued aroma.

T - Hop bitterness apparent upfront alongside malts, quickly takes over then disappears. Hops are a pronounced for a red and dominate the finish.

M - Doesn't have the smoothness I was looking for, carbonation seems a little sharp.

O - A decent red ale with a good amount of hops, I had this beer a while back on tap and enjoyed the mouthfeel a lot more than I did today. Not bad.

Served on tap in a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a deep reddish-amber color with an almost none existent tiny foam head. The head fades almost instantly leaving only a trace of lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the beer is mostly of a caramel nature with some other sweeter and sugary aromas of brown sugar and molasses. Other aromas of a lightly toasted bread and a bit of an earthy and pine hop are there as well, producing overall a well-rounded smell.

Taste – The taste begins with a clean, lightly toasted bread flavor with a rather decent level of caramel sweetness. The caramel is joined by some brown sugar as the taste advances with the roast letting up a bit. All the while, some hop flavors start working their way onto the tongue with some flavors of an earthy and herbal nature coming to the tongue. With a little bit of tangerine and some light pine also joining the flavor at the end, a rather smooth, moderately sweet red flavor is left to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average side in terms of both its thickness and carbonation. Both are rather nice for the easy drinking feel of the brew all while upholding the sweeter and lightly hopped flavors nicely.

Overall – Very easy drinking but with a good level of flavor and complexity. A rather nice red overall.
