Gorgeous tawny amber hue with a husky darkish glow. A slim, non-lasting crown of dark beige foam briefly forms before fading to a thin skim and average collar. Good amounts of lacing sticking across the glass in spotty sheets.
Soft, yet appealing nose of caramel with a bit of fruityness of apple and melon. A bit of herbal leafy hops developes slowly as it sits.
Taste is good, nothing huge here, pretty standard stuff here with some caramel and soft bready malts with a smurfing of black tea hints, notes to burnt vanilla and brown sugar and some subtle hop tones mixing off the finish with a mellowing dryness of floral herbalness.
Lighter medium bodied, a tad slim on body really, with a well-rounded carbonation and smoothness about it that does bring some solid drinkability.
A good effort from Lakefront, but comes up short as a Red ale compared to all those well done West Coasters.

12 oz bottle pours a dark, opaque amber color with a large cap of off-white head. Excellent retention and lace...a good looking brew.
Nose is caramel and toasty malt with a resinous, leafy hop aroma that leans herbal.
Taste is dark, burnt caramel maltiness, almost to dark chocolate levels. The hops are almost all on the bittering side, floral and long-lasting. It tastes pretty old school - old world hops, more bittering than taste/aroma hops and an earthy and char-esque maltiness. Mouthfeel is good, rich and well carbonated. Sweetness is pretty low. I actually am enjoying this, It feels like a tasty throwback to the early days of microbrews in the late 90's/early 2000's.
