22 oz bottle poured into a Lakefront imperial pint.
10% ABV, 60 IBUs, 21°P, 40°L. (Bottled 11-21-12)

A - A heavy pour creates a lengthy bout of cascading as the dark beer trickles through the tan foam. Below, Black Friday is a brooding dirty brown color that almost appears black. Back light brings out slivers of mahogany around the edges. Above a pillar of steadfast tan foam hold strong, slowly collapsing to a creamy pile while leaving thick lacing in it's wake.

S - Black Friday has it's share of dark malt but, dry-hopped to high heaven, this beer leans more towards the juicy tropical fruits the hops have to offer. Mango and pineapple cross paths with pine needle and are underlined with roasted notes of chocolate, nuttiness, and cocoa. Despite being 10% alcohol, almost no heat breaks through the hops' bold aroma.

T - Rich roasted malt doesn't play second fiddle here, instead a beautiful duet forms with the hops, each ingredient playing off each other nicely. Heavy roast brings baker's chocolate, mocha, and a trace of root beer with notes of balancing brown sugar and molasses. Hops explore the realm of tropical fruits and woodsy earthiness; pine and oak bark with mango, pineapple, and lemon citrus from the Citra hops explode in flavor! The harmony is wonderful with neither being obstructed or held down.

M - Thick and creamy starting with a rich, full body and smooth feel, Black Friday marries roasted malt bitterness with 60 IBUs of hoppy glory for a bitter finishing beer that doesn't come off as abrasive or offensive, partly due to the malt's balancing sweetness. Once again, the alcohol seems surprisingly tame, warming in the chest after the swallow.

O - Black Friday takes the American Black Ale style to a whole new level with it's rich roasted malt and overarching tropical fruit hoppiness. Assertive and bold, this beer carefully walks a fine line of "just enough" with out crossing into "too much". This beer is a hop-head's and malt-lover's dream crossing paths for a terrific outcome and a beer worthy of waking up early and standing in line. (2,083 characters)

poured from a 22oz bottle into snifter. Bottled 11/29/13.

A - Obsidian, like staring into the abyss black. Nice 2 finger tan head and some beautiful webbed lacing.

S - Roasty dark malts with a light note of burnt chocolate. Even at 13 months old I pick up the citrus hops in the aroma.

T - Starts off with sweet malts and moves into muted hoppy flavors of citrus, pine, and earthy tones. They yield to the darker roasty malts on the palette along with bitter chocolate and some sweet caramel. The bitterness and hops complete the finish.

M - Medium and creamy mouthfeel with very nice carbonation.

O - Now that I have had this (although not fresh) it really is comparable to Karben4 Silk Scorpion. Both are fantastic black IPAs! (737 characters)

A: Not quite black, but a deep, rich brown. Nearly opaque, some light penetrates but not much. Light white head that rings the glass and persists well. After a sip, the head returns briefly, like its refreshing the glass.

S: Amazingly fresh and ultra hoppy. Some floral in there too, and maybe a slight citrus nose.

T: Hops, and lots of them. Extremely well blended, tastes like I'm chewing on a hops flower! There's a hint of barley in there as well.

M: Smooth and thick. Not what I was expecting but very nice.

Overall: A fantastic brew from Lakefront. Absolutely delicious and unique. They should be selling this one more than just one day a year. (656 characters)

Certainly worth the wait...

A- Dark and opaque with a creamy brown colored thick lace

S- mildly hoppy with a bit of citrus and a bit of espresso

T- While the hop presence was not as strong as I had hoped, the semi-citrus and maltiness really tingled the taste buds. There is also a bit of fruit in there that really encouraged tropical notes. There was also this savoriness to this beer not found as often (umami anyone?).

M- Gentle, smooth with just a ting of hop finish. Left my mouth salivating and warm.

O- Definitely not a green brew I expected. Sure am happy there is another waiting for me. I look forward to aging the last one. (641 characters)
