Bottled 4/8/13; drank 12/16/13.
Poured from the bottle into a glass.
Murky red/purple hue.
Khaki head; strong lacing.
Dark fruit sweetness & alcohol in the nose.
Thick, sticky mouthfeel.
Dark fruits meet caramel sweetness. A dry booze burn keeps this from crossing into cloying. A boozy, tasty treat

Bottled 2/13/13. Drinking exceptionally well. Very smooth, no trace of hear from alcohol. If you have any in the cellar then I'd say that now is the time!

A two year old, properly cellared bottle, poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a hazy medium to dark orange amber with a thin white head that dissipates to a thin ring around the glass. Aroma of caramel malt, brown bread, dark stone fruit,a bit of pure ethanol at the end. Flavor is caramel malt, toffee, figs and dates, hints of dark stone fruit, honey sweetness. Light grassy hop bitterness in the finish. Medium to heavy bodied with a lightly syrupy mouth feel. A pleasant, somewhat sweet barleywine, perhaps leaning more towards an English style, but that may be due to the aging; there is a nice light hop bitterness in the finish that is true to style. Sadly, I did not try this fresh, but this 2 year old is a quite respectable barleywine for its age. It cellared nicely. After the somewhat boozy aroma, the alcohol is well covered in the flavor, which is well balanced. I like this, but will probably never see it again.

It was astringent. Could have been a bad batch. . .
