A: A moderately hazy deep copper colored beer with a long lasting tan head. The head is made of cream, compact bubbles. There is a pill of easily disturbed sediment in the bootle so handle with care.

S: A rich malty aroma with medium dried dark fruit, a moderate hops aroma along with a little rye spice. The malt has a fair amount of caramel sweetness and a touch a cocoa in the background.

T: A lot of a malt bringing a medium caramel sweetness, some light spice along with a light cocoa. There is a medium-strong hops bitterness putting the balance slightly towards the sweet. There is a medium orange flavor with medium-light dried dark fruit flavors. the finish is medium with an aftertaste of moderate hops bitterness and a some spice.

M: A medium-full bodied beer with a medium level of carbonation. A medium alcohol warmth on the palate and in the throat.

O: A malt bomb without being overly sweet, having a firm hops bitterness and a complimentary rye spice.

22oz brown bomber with a no freshness date.

Glowing deep copper hue with a faint haze, I did my best to not decant the dregs into the glass. Lacing for a big beer is impressive and stays around until I'm finished. Wafts of brown bread, Christmas pudding, mild hop resin, papaya, doughy yeast, toffee, & alcohol. Sweet, very full bodied with a almost syrupy mouthfeel. Ample hop bitterness, mild dankness within. Figgy with other notes of tropical fruit and then a slow burn of estery alcohol. Sweet breadiness with a nutty finish.

A serious Barleywine that can take some age for the better, don't retire this one guys!!!

Appearance: Golden with good lacing.

Smell: Mild licorice and grapefruit. Extremely unique.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Feels a lot like a lager. Flavors of clove and wheat. A bit thin, especially for a barleywine.

Overall: Did I love this? No. But it is very enjoyable and unique.

n effervescent chestnut with a thumb+ of cream colored head. Decent head retention & slightly better lacing

S: Pears, breadyness, plums & booze

T: Rich breadyness, caramel, leafy & woody hops & plums up front, a touch of booze as well. Hints of toffee as this warms, earthy hops, & more plums & figs as well. Some pineapple in the finish along with sticky toffee, leafy hops & a kiss of booze & Christmas Pudding

MF: Rich body, firm carbonation, sticky, warming, decent balance, seems more like an English BW to me

Nice stab at the style, this is a sipper, the ABV is to be reckoned with, this will age nicely I'm sure

S: Rich caramel, has an almost wet laundry smell, touch of cocoa as it warms.

L: Cloudy, brown with off-white head that dissipates.

T: Caramel like malt up front with some slight graininess. Medium, herbal bitterness with some herbal hop flavor. Alcohol leaves some warmth. Finishes semi-dry, a little harsh. Sweeter as it warms, brown sugar mostly.

M: Medium full body, medium low carbonation. Alcohol is warming.

22 oz bottle poured into a snifter.
12.5% ABV, 74 IBUs, 25°P, 17°L, Bottled 02/13/13

A - The fact that a beer so strong is able to maintain it's head is miraculous. The pile dense ivory foam is packed so tightly it looks more like the froth from a nitro-tap pour and gently rests on the clear rusted amber beer with finesse, all while leaving dots of lace on the snifter.

S - My my, Chad is voluptuous. Deep maltiness unveils layers of complexity ranging from the easily identifiable caramel and toffee notes to the dense bread loaf and fruity undertones of dried fig, plum, and suggestions of raisin. It's not hard to miss the strong alcohol aroma of this fresh barleywine though; soothing heat wafts out with some aggressiveness.

T - Smooth malt continues through the flavor from the aroma with it's caramel and toffee notes while adding a sprinkle of brown sugar to the mix of fruit and bread for a pleasant malt flavor that finishes with some earthy, dry hoppiness and solvent alcohol heat.

M - Full bodied and smooth, this beer is borderline chewy while distancing itself from being thick or cloying. The big maltiness lingers with sweetness that's balanced by both dry alcohol, and hop bitterness. The finish clearly features plenty of alcohol but it never burns, the 12.5% ABV has a soothing warmth perfect for the last few weeks of cold weather.

O - Chad is big and frankly, boozy, but don't hold it against this incredibly fresh beer. This one will undoubtedly age wonderfully, expounding on it's already fantastic malt depth and fruity nuances. Chad is another fantastic chapter in Lakefront's My Turn series!

1 PT. 6 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in a snifter
1000th review

A - It is a copper hue with amber highlights. It is topped with a couple inches of tan head.

S - When I first poured it I smelled a boozy, almost bourbon-like aroma. Upon further investigation I smelled the malt profile. It has a fruity smell along with some caramel malt.

T - I get a little alcohol. There is some caramel and fruity notes. There are no overwhelming flavors. It has a slight bitterness on the finish.

M - Syrupy.

O - It is a simple, well done barley wine. There is nothing that makes it stand out, and yet, it is enjoyable to drink. It is right on for the English style.

It was astringent. Could have been a bad batch. . .
