Outstanding appearance with the golden brew topped by a stand-up white head in the narrow Peroni glass. Not overly carbonated in the mouth but zingy enough. Lovely flowery aroma.

This has the crisp and clean tang of a good Kölsch. A surprising amount of malt flavor comes through for such a low alcohol beer. Cereal and crackers with a distinct sweet note. Less perfumey than some other examples of the style, but it's fragrant with hops in its own way.

Very modest amount of bitterness and a rather winey sensation gives this a more substantial mouthfeel. The foam builds up nicely with every small pour. I have not paid much attention to Lakefront, but clearly they are making excellent beers at a larger scale. Poured from the 22 oz bottle purchased at Liticker's in San Diego.

From: Woodman's, Kenosha, WI

Glass: Ayinger willi glass

Lakefront's Terrance is a solid kolsch-style ale, with a fairly clean, grain and biscuit-like flavor accentuated by some spicy and lemon-like hops. Pleasing, straightforward, and easy to drink in large quantities, this would be an excellen session beer. While there are kolschs I prefer over this, if this were a six-pack regular, I'd probably acquire it with regularity.

Pours a 2cm tall head of clean, white foam that's composed of small bubbles, yielding a frothy appearance. Retention is about average, the foam lasting slightly over one minute in a quick decline to a thin ring around the perimeter of the glass and a small island of lace resting atop the center of the body. Lacing is minimal, a few small dots cling to the sides of the glass. Beer is a dark golden yellow color, with light bringing out pale yellow-orange hues. Carbonation is visible through the transparent body,

Aroma of lemon zest mixed with grainy and biscuit-like pale malts. Not particularly complex, but pleasant to me and appetizing.

Flavor is of big, biscuity and grainy pale malts with gentle bread-like sweetness and mildly spicy and lemon-like hops. Front of palate detects mild spicy and lemon-like hops with white bread-like sweetness and a touch of grainy malts. Mid-palate of strong biscuit and grainy pale malt flavors undercurrents of spicy and lemon-like hops, and subdued bitterness. Back of palate finds mild bitterness, lemon-like hops, and pale malt sweetness. Aftertaste is of dry biscuity and grainy malts with excellent depth of character, and just a touch of lemon.

Beer is medium-light in body, with carbonation of medium to medium-high intensity, resulting in a mouthfeel that is somewhat fizzy, then foamy (1/2) and slightly smooth (1/2): in essence fairly crisp, yet not insubstantial. This is a sign of good recipe-building, considering the low malt content of the beer. Closes dry, with light stickiness on the palate and lips.

22oz brown bomber with a freshness date.

Clear pale golden hue, decent lacing. Fresh bread, grassy, herbal, doughy malt, and faint spice in the nose. Rounded crispness, light creamy maltiness, dried grass, leafy hop, ample bitterness, drying graininess, hint of yeast, semi-clean finish.

Really good drinking here, incredibly easy to knock back. I think this a is a solid rendition of the style as well.

Pours a HUGE, soapy white head that collapses into a puffy, cloud-like mass that clings to the glass. Crisp, bright, floral hop aroma. I could smell it all day. Radiant gold with a slight haziness. Starts with a really nice grassy hop bitterness that is low. There is a flash of grain as the hops subside and then that malt....Oh, that malt! The malt wells up masterfully as the last remnants of the hops take a floral characteristic before the finish. HUUUUGE, smooth malt biscuit in the finish that just linger and lingers.

I love the way the carbonation foams and tingles in the mouth. For such a light brew, you'd expect this to be watery, but it's nice and luscious in the mouth.

Holy hell, this is fantastic! When I heard Lakefront was making a Kölsch, I knew it was going to end well, but this surpasses my expectations.
If you like malt, you need this. This may beat out "Totally Naked" for malt heaven....maybe. Perfect for the very last 90*F+ day of the year!

After another 5 or 6 sips, I had to bump up all my scores a tad. This really is perfect or near perfect.

22 oz bottle poured into a Lakefront imperial pint
4.2% ABV, 25 IBUs, 12°P, 5°L

A - Brilliant clarity shines through this pale yellow beer and, once the enormous stark white head finally drops, thick clumps of lace stick to the glass.

S - Terrance smells exactly like a Kölsch should; crisp and clean with notes of mineral water and grainy pale malt with a faint trail of floral noble hops on the finish and suggestions of apple (in a good way) and pear. It's spot on and quite inviting!

T - Dry, grainy pale malt incorporates a straw like flavor into the simple beer but it's a welcome addition that transitions well to the faint floral noble hop finish.

M - Crisp and clean, this ale is quite lager-like in it's smooth and refreshing light bodied feel. Sweet-leaning, the finish is as drinkable a they come!

O - Terrance, Lakefront's bottling machine operator, made a crisp and refreshing Kölsch-style ale for his installment of the My Turn series. This easy drinking and damn tasty beer is not only thirst quenching but nails the style perfectly. The bottle says it best and most concise: "Aaah."
