Poured from a 12 oz. brown bottle into a Sam Adams pint glass.
A: A mix of a light amber / dark copper color, with a good amount of fast-rising carbonation visible. This beer pours with about an inch of smooth head that falls down fairly swiftly yet leaves a spotty layer atop the beer. It leaves a very thin layer of lacing on the glass that slides back into the beer after a minute.
S: Warm and sweet caramel malts are quite strong, with an underlying earthiness/fruitiness to it that really fills the nose. The smell is sweetish and pleasant, but finishes somewhat plain and weak.
T: Sweet up front with a hint of buttery breadiness. The middle is slightly more fruity but without any hop bitterness. Finish is soft and sweet as well with some interesting floral tastes.
M: Soft and manageable for the most part, but it leaves an odd tingle in the side of the mouth during the finish.
D: Really good. Pretty tasty and easy to swallow. I could easily drink a few of these in a row.
Overall, a pretty tasty brew. Nothing is truly outstanding, but it's a good solid example of this style that features a smooth malt character with a tiny hop taste.

12oz Bottle

App: Great orange-amber. Not much head, but I try not to deduct for that.

Smell: Toasted caramel with mineral undertones. Sweet, herbal hops.

Taste: Mineral hop and grain flavor at start. Ends with clean, not cloying caramel with slight herbal hop.

Mouthfeel: Light medium munich body with a crisp, dry finish. Tight carbonation that cuts through the chewy caramel.

This was a leftover from last September, but still tasty. Nice reddish coppery tone, with light carbonation and a decent head that left a nice lacey coating.

The bouquet has a lot of malt, mixed with toasty grains and caramel undertones. This goes right to the heart of the taste, toasted malt, caramel and an interesting grainy finish and aftertaste.

The mouthfeel is decent as this beer is not as heavy in body as some more malty fest beers. This is a drinkable beer and an enjoyable beer, great for the fall, not a 97 degree day. I would say that for what I believe was their second bottling of this beer, a decent effort!

Tap at Drafting Room Exton.

Deep red/brown color, even a bit dark by American Oktoberfest standards. Finger thick head fizzles away rather fast. Nose is a little muted, but some aromas of dark malts, fudge and fruit. Flavor was very full, pleasing, with a lot of mouth filling richness. Lots of chewy malt and actually quite a bit of fruity flavors as well. I was surprised at how fruity and spiced tasting this O-fest was, I almost thought they crossed the tap lines with a "Brewery name escapes me" Winter ale that was right next to the Lancaster tap handle. Quite a full bodied, rich O-fest overall. Mouthfeel was fine and malty slick with moderate to low carbonation (nice!).

Finished with residual malt sweetness and pumpkin pie spice. Overall - I somewhat stylized version of your typical O-fest, but in a good way. Really nice richness and malt punch dominate this well crafted brew.

appearance: pours a clear copper-orange with light carbonation, light off-white foam and lacing.

smell: earthy harvest malts and light scent of spices.

taste: begins clean, malt-harvest flavor quickly presents itself, malty flavor somewhat clashes with a spicy undertone, leaving a slightly bitter aftertaste.

drinkability: not an overly impressive Märzen, the harvest malts are pronounced, but its bitterness detracts from the style.

For those of us locals who endured LBC's "Oktoberfest" offerings in the past, this is a remarkable and welcome change. Bill has kegged a really nice beer that has some complexity and balance. It's a sweet beer, make no mistake; you might have to watch out for yellow jackets if drinking it outside. It looks pretty nice in the glass with a fluffy, large bubbled head on top of deep amber. I liked the fresh malty nose. I wouldn't say it's the best 'Fest I ever had but it's very good. Somewhat evocative of this year's Steg Fest. LBC's assimilation of the Franklinfest has been kinda wierd since Bill resurrected the beer, three different names for the same stuff gets folks confused. He told me the O-fest on right now is the Franklin and I said thanks. Check this one out soon.

Pours a clear amber orange color with a TON of carbonation....It looks like soda. Head retains but a little bit but then dissipates....no lacing at all...carbonation seems to have gone down as well.

Not much in the smell...Just a bit of caramel..I havent picked up much in any of the oktoberfests this year.

Tastes of solid caramel and malt. Its very much up front with a bit of cinnamon as well. Finishes with a strong backbone of toffee.

Nothing ground breaking but its a very good oktoberfest....Another good one from Lancaster Brewing co.

This was a little disappointing to me as I love this brewery and I love O-Fests. The color was the normal dark amber, very little head, no lacing. Smell was quite hoppy with a little malt in the background.

The initial taste was quite hoppy with a little bit of malt base. Seems too hoppy for the style. Very clean and simple. Actually tasted very similar to another one of their beers, the Red Rose Ale. Maybe they could switch up their hop varieties or something.

Mouthfeel was thin, but drinkability was pretty high. Overall, worth a shot.

S: A little wheat, but not too strong.

T: Hoppy bite. The aftertaste is a sweet wheat.

M: Sort of caramel. Well-carbonated.

D: Very heavy, but in a satisfying way.

Overall, it's solid, but it's unremarkable.

A - Clear, amber-copper coloration with a thin non-lingering head

S - Malted smell, clean and uncomplex, with a small whiff of hops.

T - Good tasting brew, which has clean malt flavors and little hop flavoring. Clean taste with refreshing flavors.

M - Mild carbonation, and a thin mouthfeel. Not bad, just nothing really striking.

D - Easy drinking. We drank this while we were brewing an all-grain Baltic Porter, and it went down easily all afternoon. A good sessionable beer.

Poured from a fresh growler that was just filled within the hour at the Brewery. For $7/growler, can't beat it. I'm becoming a big fan of Oktoberfest beers. Let's see how this one line's up while watching College Football.

A-No head whatsoever. Golden color with a hint of red throughout.

S- Not a whole lot of nose on this one. Some sweet caramel malts and a little spice. A few citrus hops also.

T- Taste is a lot more complex than the Apperance and Smell. Some sweet malts, spices, and apricot aftertaste. Has a nice floral hops taste in the middle. Very good and different than other Fest beers I have had lately.

M- I think this is a little thin. It might have lost a little carbonation after filling the growler. Nothing special in the mouthfeel.

D- The website says 6.5% though I don't notice any alcohol. Very drinkable in my book. Not my favorite Oktoberfest beer, but for the price and availability for me, can't beat a growler. It does have quite a bit of difference than Stoudt's or SA's, which is nice.

Cheers Friends,
Scott

A: Copper color, head disappears.

S: Great malty smell upfront, some sweetness.

T: Carmel flavor dominates the malt I had smelled at first, and there buttery quality. Smoother Oktoberfest.

M: Nice and crisp, drinkable.

O: I like its drinkability, its not the best Oktoberfest, but by no means the worst.

Served on-tap in a 5 oz. sampler glass.

A: A clear, dark copper color. Thin head, strong and thick lacing.

S: Floral notes.

T: Sweet malt, somewhat bitter finish. Well-balanced.

M: Smooth, well-carbonated.

D: Not a huge fan of it overall. I suppose it fits the style, but I wasn't impressed with any particular aspect. I probably wouldn't reach for another if I had other options.

This Lancaster brew was a gift from a recent house guest. Frankly, I expected more from this brew, though I appreciated my friend's hospitality. Color is amber, almost copper. Pours with a modest head that does not linger. Not much lacing. Smell and taste were consistent with each other - a hint of hops, some malt, and some not very pleasant cider-like flavors. Mouthfeel was not noteworthy. As this beer warmed up from refrigerator temperatures, it grew less pleasant. The color and light hops are characteristic of Oktoberfest beers, I believe. but it did not have a full, lusty taste that I had hoped for.

Lancaster Brewing - Oktoberfest

Overall - another mediocre märzen. This one may have been past it's prime too - I got medium head with an agressive pour, but it faded quickly without any lacing. The beer did have have a nice redish-copper color, and it poured perfectly clear. Taste was OK - a bit malty, but slightly off somehow I don't know how to describe. Not bad, but I won't seek it out again - I'd probably prefer a Sam Adams which is generally my idea of a middle of the road Oktoberfest.

Bottle says Wilkes-Barre, PA (I'm assuming that's near Lancaster?) There's no sign of an ABV on the bottle or cap. The bottle has a few stamps on it - 20512, 14960K+ and 15/21/174/12/11.38/S - not sure if anyone can get a bottling date out of that or not.

The appearance is a nice coppery clear color with a nice foamy top that clears out quickly without a trace on the glass

The smell is a nice full smell, but somewhat average.

The taste is good that starts out with just a hint of fuirtyness and then turns into a roasted carmel ending.

The mouthfeel is medium with a full body taste. Not heavy, but not watered down either.

Drinkability is good although with the alcohol content I'm not likely to frink one after another all night.
