Notes/Commercial Description:
Description: This classic Bohemian-style Pilsner brings noble hop flavor and traditional maltiness into perfect union. A healthy dose of imported hops tips the scales towards a decidedly hoppy finish.

Also this beer is no longer produced in bottles. I'm not sure if there is anyway to change our rating because our bottles were contracted brewed and were not up to our standards hence the termination of bottling. Or I guess we just get more people to review the draft version which is many times better than our old bottles.

(From Notes)

Had at the brewery in Lancaster.

Really not very good. This beer is inconsistent and struggling to produce the crisp pilsner rounded taste one would expect from a Pennsylvania brew.

The hops are slightly spicy and the beer unfiltered. White pepper and overly light body set back the roundness and crispness of the beer. A touch sour and heavily carbonated. Very dry and oily. Unfiltered.

Served on tap at Lancaster's Harrisburg location.

A- Pours a cloudy amber, which is shocked the hell out of me for a pilsner. Didn't really look very appetizing either

S- Nothing. Maybe a tad bit of hoppiness. Lancaster needs to get these damn regular beers to have some sort of aroma.

T- Bland. There is a slight kick of hoppiness near the end of the show.

M- Well, its light...and its thin. And it hardly has any flavor. So...the mouthfeel is weak as hell.

D- I apologize in advance to my friends at Lancaster, but this is not a good beer. Barely any flavor, no scent at all, and it looks ugly too. If you're going to the brewpub, avoid this at all costs...unless you're a domestic light drinker and are afraid of beer with flavor

This brew looked like most pilsners do, it had the typical yellow color white a head. it was light bodied and nicely carbonated. The flavor was a little odd though, to me it had a sour flavor similar to a Flemish red. In my opinion I don't believe that I'd ever seek this out again. I just wasn't a huge fan.

Presentation: 12 oz brown bottle with no freshness date.

Appearance: Two fingers of rocky off white head rise after a hard pouring. A hazed tannish amber draw little light, unfiltered is fine but haze in my pilsner is not.

Smell: Smells of hay bails and spicy hops. A bit of yeast and more malt in the back.

Taste: The medium body throws the crispness off a bit with a slickness on the tongue. The bitterness bites the taste buds with a slight sharpness, the malt is tied in with the yeast which creates a doughy flavor throughout. Finishes with a touch of hops and some sweetness.

Notes: Certainly not the pilsner I was expecting … is this flawed or was it intentional? Cloudy with a stuggling crispness … this beer does nothing for me. Not horrible but not a beer I’d go back to.

Pours a hazy light amber with a big foamy head. Must be unfiltered because there are lots of yeast particles floating around which I had to let settle. Color and lack of clarity are off for a pilsner. Good head retention during that settling time. Smell is big on the hops. Taste is also a bit hoppier than expected, with a bit of sweetness and also a bit yeasty. Relatively crisp but also somewhat slick on the tongue...again, odd for a pilsner. Overall this beer is pretty tasty, but it's weird. Not what I was expecting in a pilsner, and so as a pilsner it's very mediocre.

Pours a bright slightly dark gold with a thin head and lots of carbonation. Aroma is sharp and clean, nice light Saaz and toasted malt.

Taste is sweet golden malt with a hint of sourness. A slight orange citrus edge, more than I would expect in a pils. More body and bittersweet flavors than a typical pilsner. Needs to be lighter, more Saaz and less [other] hops. Finishes with a dry hoppy aftertaste that lingers.

Mouthfeel is medium but heavier than a pilsner should be. This is a good beer but I have to bring the numbers down a little because I think they missed the style.

12oz. bottle

Pours a light amber with a fluffy white head that maintains well. Thick lacing on the glass. It looks rather good, but too dark for a pilsner.

Has a lightly sweet caramel malt aroma with a light amount of herbal hops. Also, a slight fruitiness is present. Is there really a pilsner in here?

Upfront is a caramel malt flavor and a slight fruitiness. This is followed by a nice bitter hop bite and rather herbal hop flavor. It finishes a bit dry with a lingering bitterness and hoppy taste.

Nicely carbonated, creamy texture.

This is a decent beer, but disappointing to a man craving a crisp and spicy pils.

The Lancaster Gold Star Pilsner pours into my nonic pint glass a brilliant golden hue with streaks of sunshine yellow. A light bubbly half inch of foam tops the brew off. Aroma is toasted grains upfront along with a bit of light fruitiness. Herbal, sorta cheesy hops in the background with a light sweetness.

First sip brings a nicely toasted grainy maltiness that has a mix of light fruity flavors as well. Earthy, herbal hop character follows and imparts a slight bit of bitterness. Finishes smooth with a touch of roastiness.

Mouthfeel is light and smooth, easy to drink overall. A nice brew to drink after a mowing the lawn on a hot day. A fairly nice, uncomplicated brew, but it still leaves me wanting a bit more.
