In the midst of the Genesee River Valley and the State University of NY - Geneseo, lies the town of Geneseo and the historic and landmark Big Tree Inn. Home to many seeking lodging and hospitality since the late 1800s, the Big Tree Inn has seen many tend to it during that period and in its recent existence. Most recently renovated in 1998, the inn was reopened in January, 1999.
The most important point is that its survived and is there for us to enjoy today. Part of that enjoyment includes beer and a fine selection of it. BTI has a well thought out selection of about 15 draughts, dozens more in bottles ranging from quality domestic micros, many imports, including a very good selection of Belgians. A gem for locals and a great stop when traveling through the area (around 30 - 35 min south of Rochester @ junction of routes 20A, 39 & 63). Great atomosphere. Give it a try.

Small bar in a hotel in the town of Geneseo. Bar is clean and nice looking. About 20 seats at the bar with a good amount of tables.
The beer selection is serviceable, but it's not really a beer destination. They usually have the "crafty options," Guinness, a few macros, and maybe some local craft from Ithaca or CB's. The cocktails here are much better.
The food is alright, nothing crazy, but still tasty nonetheless. Kind of expensive.

The Big Tree has gone way downhill since a manager change last fall. There are still a few microbrews on tap but they are mostly uninspiring, run-of-the-mill products from Custom Brewcrafters. Most of the craft brew lovers I know only drink CB's beers when there are no other micros available. Better than Bud but on the low end of the microbrew spectrum. Their English Pale Ale is a decent beer though. The bottle selection is still pretty good but is being steadily reduced. The staff know nothing about beer and can't answer questions. It's a far cry from the way it used to be. See my long review on Pubcrawler for more Big Tree info.

On a lazy afternoon when you find yourself heading south out of Rochester, or north from anywhere else, stop at the Big Tree Inn. A casual dining experience in the rural town of Geneseo is everything a small town restaraunt should be.
Sit back and be comfortable while you enjoy a steak and one of the beers from one of their 15 or so taps. I thoroughly enjoy myself here. If I lived closer, I would be there every day. I wish I stopped by more often when I was working down there.
The beers on tap include several micros, including my favs from Custom Brewcrafters. Tons of bottles. never forget the bottles!
