Golden color with a two finger head with short retention.
Light aroma of biscuit malt and some citric fruitiness.
Sweet malty flavor with notes of honey, biscuit, pears with some citrusy. Mildly dry aftertaste.
Light to medium body with appropriate carbonation.
Really a not bold brew, rather smooth, but still pleasant and well executed. I may need to try a fresher version, this one is due in 4 months.

Poured out a cloudy orange colour with two fingers of white head. The head faded slowly to next to nothing. There was no carbonation to speak of.

It smelled sweet, with some citrus.

The taste was rich & earthy with a lingering bitterness.

I'd heard a lot about this beer and it lived up to it's reputation.

12oz bottle purchased at a pub in London.

A: Cloudy, dark amber color with a nice white head. No lacing when the head recedes.
S: Extremely fruity! Strong caramel maltiness with tons of citrus peel aroma. Nice and fresh. I like it so far!
T: Taste follows the smell. Pleasing hop front balanced with some sweet maltiness. Passion fruit, nectarines, orange, peach. Just wonderful. Nice lingering flavor that leaves you wanting more.
M: High carbonation on a medium body. Slightly dry finish.
O: This is an awesome beer, glad I got to try it. Dangerously drinkable, great to have on a warm summer night.

I've had this beer many, many times (as has any Aussie beer lover worth their salt), and I reviewed it very early on in my beer-drinking career, giving it an artificially inflated score when it was just about the only beer of any substance you could get in Australia. As such, I was keen to try it again at some point without the history and bias that had built up in my mind.

Knowing this, my friend Rich cleverly served it to me blind one Saturday afternoon, asking me to review it and pick what it was. Here's the result:

Pours a dense pale amber hue, deeply cloudy with a huge frothy head of eggshell white. Lacing is sticky and frothy, leaving maniacal streaks down the glass. The body is quite light though, and there's not a lot of visible carbonation. It does look very good overall.

Nose is slightly round with fresh hop characters, but also dusky and dark, with a faint grain husk character that makes it seem earthier than it is. Faint organic tones come through as well as a slight leafy note. Still, it's rather pleasant altogether.

Taste is light and clean. Pleasant straight up-and-down malt basis with a cleansing, but not particularly flavoursome hop balance. Back palate is slightly musky, which drops out quickly, leaving almost nothing in the finish. It's clean, but a little banal.

Feel is a bit light as well—a little more something, body, carbonation, or flavour in general, would really help it out.

Overall, though, it's a very drinkable brew. It's pretty light on flavour for the most part, but it has a vestige of interest running through it—it's enough to make me consider drinking it again.

And, I'll keep my original review below:

A beautiful looking beer. A clear, dark amber colour, with a good solid white head. Lacing sticks to the glass all the way down. 4.5

Wonderful sweet nose, definitely some aniseed spiciness and tropical fruits like mangos bananas and peaches. A heaven-scent (haha) aroma. 4.5

Very fine taste as well, complex and rich, punctuated by yeasty notes and floral hop bitterness. The after taste is very smooth, leaving you feeling refreshed and satisfied. 4.5

Feel: 5

Yes, this is a very fine beer. 4.5

(Ed: no, it's not that good).

This is the final of three Australian beers from my store, and I think we might have a winner here.

It pours a really hazy dark orange with some brown notes - it looks like apple cider with some bubbles on top. The smell is also outstanding - very hoppy with some grapefruit aromas. It's like an IPA but not nearly as hoppy.

The taste is soooo smooth for a Pale Ale with a little bit of lingering bitterness on the tongue and a restrained amount of carbonation - all of which makes this one very easy drinking but flavourful beer. The feel, naturally, is exceptional.

Fantastic beer, just great.

A: Gold with a bubbly white head.

S: Tropical fruit and a weird metallic smell.

T: Mango and other tropical fruits (not overly pronounced but pleasant) mixed with a lager-like corn/metallic flavour.

O: I first had this at Little Creature's awesome brewpub in Freemantle and it tasted great but in 40°C even VB would have tasted good. The few times I've had it bottled it hasn't tasted good. Not a great brewery but if you're in the Freemantle area definitely check out this brewpub, albeit, if you can stomach being around so many hipsters.
