330ml bottle poured into pint glass 19/3/14

A slight haze in a amber orange body, lots of little bubbles but only a thick film for head, one thick ring where it existed

S grapefruit, orange and a little pine, smells a little malty, lots of brown sugar

T a little more I'd guess after a whiff, spicy and citric, pine's stronger, malt works well with the hops, has some balance going for it

M has a bite but not a palate wrecker, very gritty in the mouth, a sweet earthy finish

O smells a little faint but other then that I rather enjoyed this one, fairly well rounded and balanced

I'm a little surprised this one doesn't get more love, I bought a 4 pack and I'm happy to have a few more to drink

Pours amber with a fading head.
Nose shows tropical fruit, rich caramel and fruit confectionery.
Very similar flavours, more of the fruit and confectionery along with some of the sweet malt. Finishes with an assertive but balanced bitterness.
Carbonation seems a little high.

A - Crystal clear. Dark amber. Very low carbonation. Small dissipating head

S - Small notes of pine and citrus . Unacceptable aroma for an IPA. I may have gotten an old batch.

T - Good session beer taste. Perfect amount of bitterness. Malt flavors are there but stay way back as they are suppose to. Lacking some flavor hops and again a lack of aroma gets in the way of the taste.

M - Great mouthfeel. Light bodied but has a good feel. May need slightly more carbonation.

O - Good session style IPA. Definitely restrained and will appeal to a typical drinker.

Bottle: stumpy embossed 500mL brown bottle, classically-styled old-school label.

Appearance: pours clear golden amber with a one-finger off-white head that drops to a film pretty quickly. Decent lacing, with hardly any carbonation visible.

Aroma: a very smooth nose - the traditional AIPA pine and citrus hops are quite strong and linger nicely throughout the session. Unlike the majority of AIPAs, there are some additional spices and some malts. A good start!

Taste: drops away here - the flavours are nowhere near as intense as they are on the nose. The additional aromas also don't follow through - all together a decent beer, but not as good as the nose would lead one to believe.

Aftertaste: drops away very quickly, and considering the high price I don't really want to consider it a sessional.

Mouth feel: I think this is half the problem with the muted flavour profile - the light-to-medium body is fine, but the lack of carbonation really seems to dull this beer down. A pity as, according to the quality nose, this could have been an alternative to the best U.S.-based AIPAs.

Overall: don't get me wrong - this is a good quality, tasty beer. I'd have to admit though I was expecting more after the nose - it tastes more like a slightly-stronger pale ale than an IPA. If they could get the flavours as strong as the nose, I would certainly add this to my repertoir of regulars.

Why am I always the first anyways this is creatures new addition to the family and about time and pours a clear golden orange lucozade hue with a dimple laden three finger head and creamy lacing, smells like a subdued Hop Hog it's pineapple, pine and citrus on the nose with a touch of caramel malts, mouthfeel is light bodied too light a body for my liking and lively carbonated with pretty much the same suspects as on nose with a light stringent bitter finish but dedicatedly pedestrian bitter and overall it's what I expected and nothing more cheers.

How long have I been waiting for Little Creatures to release a new year round beer to their line up? <--- this long ---> And it's about time Little Creatures made an IPA which I will henceforth refer to as LCIPA. I'm so excited by this momentous occasion that I'm going to break beer protocol and serve it in a chalice!

Poured from a 330ml bottle into a Chimay chalice.

A: The body is a clear deep amber with what was a white head that reduced to tiny lace ring.

S: Pine/Citrus hops assail the nostrils immediately, then give way to what is a light biscuit malt base. There are notes of Thai basil and cannabis in the hop profile as well, quite a heady hop nose on this brew, should be a real treat for the taste-buds.

T: Flavour is not as refined as expected and in some ways a disappointment from the brewers of what is my all-time favourite Australian beer: Little Creatures Pale Ale. The hops are a tad aggressive with bitter herbal/cannabis twang that has a slight astringency as well. The malt base is practically invisible but who can blame it with such belligerent hops? Apart from that there is a sense that this brew is both dry and wet hopped but the hops themselves kind of merge into one big conglomerate leaving one not able to distinguish their individual complexities. And lastly the buttery diacetyl which gave LCPA an angle is gone for better or worse.

M: There's a saying that goes "With aggressive hops comes aggressive carbonation", not really but with LCIPA this rule seems to apply, and along with the sharp carbonation we have a light (for the style at least) body which doesn't impart that oily/resin goodness most AIPA's have.

D: I for one had high (possibly insurmountable) hopes for this brew, however taking this into account it's not Little Creatures best work, not by a long shot. It's an average American IPA that is beaten by a dozen different AIPA's one can think of. And where LCPA showed Aussie drinkers how and American style could be given an Aussie slant, LCIPA has added nothing new to the Australian "beergeist", and for that I am disappointed with Little Creatures.

Food match: Thai and Vietnamese are good picks.
