They used to have a better selection. I recently purchased a imperial stout by founders and it was over 1 year old. They took it back with little questions.

Been here on a couple occasions. The selection is worth browsing through. If you mix a six, you get a free pint glass. Why not?

We've been shopping here for some time and it keeps getting better. Great selection and they have really stepped up their craft game.

They have organized the beer by geography, allocated a lot more space and continually expand their mix-a-six program.

The service is always great and the coolers well stocked.

One of the better craft beer providers in RI--the store is organized loosely by style with several shelved sections for four and six packs. There is also a long double-sided shelf with singles. The selection seems to change a lot, I've found several rare beers there. I've also gotten great assistance from the staff, both in store and over the phone. They'll set things aside if you're coming in for it, they'll check to see if something is in stock, and they'll try to order things where possible.

This is a large liquor store, and not just a craft beer store. With that in mind, not all of the staff are well-versed in craft beer.

On the whole, I think this is a great store, and count it in the top three that I rely on for craft beer selection in RI.

Gan's is a good liquor store with reasonable prices on both beer and wine. The beer selection is good and constantly improving. They have large format bottles on a lot of interesting craft beers that you don't see many places. They will carry some beers from the brewers, but not all, which I find interesting. For example they may have Resin, The Crisp and 3 Beans from SixPoint, but not Righteous, Bengali Tiger etc.

If you're looking to try a bunch of different beers, they allow anything to get broken up into singles. Staff is helpful, mostly knowledgeable and friendly. If you're looking to find some interesting stuff that is hard to find in RI, this is a good place to start.

Well, I've been a regular at this place for about a year now, since it's near my college. By far in the area it is my favorite, there is no competition whatsoever. Very nice people, very large selection of individual bottles, and ANYTHING in a six pack is able to be broken up. My only problem lies in that there seems to be a fair amount of expired stuff on the mix-a-six rack. Not entirely sure why, maybe the selection is too large or the demand is just not enough. Either way, their selection is excellent in beer, and pretty good in wine, more than decent in whiskey (they carry hard to find stuff around here like Paddy's). Anyways, a far above average store, especially for the beer lover. Decent prices, very nice people, and a lot of times you can get some pint glasses with your mix a six or other small deals going on. They still have a couple of bottles of Dogfish Head World Wide Stout left, grab it before it goes away!

I M Gan has continued to grow their craft beer/import selection. I was in there tonight and picked up a six of the Noble Pils, which I read in a forum that hasn't made it everywhere yet. They have great craft brew from Cali to Colorado to the local New England brewers. I picked up three of the Sierra Nevada Southern Hemispheres the last time I was there before this. I have been other places since and have not seen them since. When ever I mix a six, which is at a 15% discount, cheaper than most package stores around, the cashier/employees always gives his/her opinion on my selection which is much appreciated because it is nice to hear others reviews, especially on something I am trying for the first time. The pricing is very competitive and the selection is great.

This place has done an about face. It was never really much of a beer store as far as I'm concerned but now they have quite a selection and a 15% mix-a-six discount that can't be beat! Theres a couple of good guys in there that can help you with the beer and if you want something and don't see it they'll get it for you. The prices and selection are among the best in the state and keep me coming back.

P.S. I learned today from a clerk that the place in under new ownership within the past year or so which may account for the increase in selection and competitiveness.

I have been a frequent shopper at this store for the past 10 years since I moved home from college. The staff is eager to please and is sort of knowledgeable about beer and getting better. I find that the best way to get what you want is to ask. Everytime I have asked they have gotten something for me. I think there selection is not bad. They do blow out older stuff or things that do not sell/ out of season. I find this the best time to stock up on something you really like.

Their selection is of course limited to the distributors in Rhode Island's ability to provide. Their prices are very reasonable and are better than most. I love the walk in cooler. Their is always something hidden among the stacks inside. Just peek around, they let you! They do rotate their beer selection and carry one of my favorite brewery's offerings Berkshire Brewing Company. They make some unbelievable beer. They also carry Southern Tier and a lot of other hard to find things that I cannot remember at this point of the post.

I went here 2 weeks ago and they had a row full of 6 packs and another full of singles.
In RI it is kinda rare to walk in somewhere and find only major beer brews and no craft beer.
So I saw the same ol stuff that I see at other store becuase RI deals with the same craft beer distributor and must tell them what does good and what does not. I would guess it is only the good stores that take a risk on something becuase they know BA fans know good beers and will buy it.
As for this place, I say some Victory,Chimay, Ommegang, Brookly, Victory,Rogue. Same all craft beer that I can find near by.

What did stand out here was the lack of moving old products. I saw some old summer beers and octoberfest beers that should be marked down to sell and move.

Tom Hogan did contact me after I posted this review and seemed that he was interested in knowing what beers he should carry and how to improve the store. Any comments let me know he seems that he wants to move the store in the right direction. I got the impression that old summer beers might of been over looked because they do move old stock to the front of the store if the ABV is low. Since hight ABV beers do have a longer shelf light. So if you live by and you are looking for a beer for them to carry, drop him a line and maybe he will see if he can put it on the shelf for you.

I had stepped away from this place for a while because they really only had DFH, SA, Victory, etc. Good medium tier but not top tier selection. I used to live near here and at that time (9 years ago) they were my favorite spot as they had more than the bud, miller, coors selection. This was the first place I saw and purchased Sam Adams triple bock (ick) way back in 94'. That was the start of it for me.
However, I moved to Cranston on the other side and stayed with Christy's or Merry Go Round, or if I ventured that way it was BUSA. What a pleasant surprise to stop in there about a year ago and watch their selection bloom into it's current state. These guys have always been nice. This was my nanny's package store of choice when I was a child, and it was right in the artery of Apponaug. Mom and I would pick her up close by where she lived and stop there for Gansett's or Schlitz on the way to our house in Buttonwoods.
I always got something, whether it was beer nuts, slim jim's, or something gross like a stuffed pepper just to try it. This place has had a space available in my heart but didn't fill it until about a year ago when I moved back to Warwick. I am now a loyal customer who only occasionally strays to Smithfield or No. Prov if I absolutely have to. Of course, sometimes I cheat and head to Attleboro, as Yankee Spirits is the tops for price selection, etc.
Gan's has a healthy selection if Craft and Micro's. Huge DFH supply to start with. Anything DFH, they always have it, excluding the hiatus beers. St. Bernardus, Unibroue, Southern Tier, Great Divide, Avery,Weyerbacher, Chimay, Brooklyn, etc. Massive collection of Belgians, all types. They also have a bevvy of options for a mix-a-six @ a 10% discount.
Some of the guys that work here have been there since I was a little dude, and the kids that work here are knowledgeable and friendly, and not just "humping" kegs for the cash. Sometimes, I am forced to stray to others, but this place is a top three for me in RI. This is a "must visit" if you're ever force to land in RI for some ungodly reason!!!

Heard from a non-beer geek co-worker that this place was pretty good and decided to check it out since the last review was some time ago. First and foremost, I M Gan offers a mix-a-six deal that includes a 15% discount, which is pretty good considering that most places only offer 10%. I have to say that the sixer selection was quite good and somewhat better than the mix-a-six stock. Basically, the craft brew sixers are spread out a bit, so its worth walking around, but the mix-a-six and bombers are located on one island style-shelving unit approximately 8 ft. long. One side consisted mostly of American single stock, predominantly craft, but also included some of the macro-micros (e.g. Sam, Harpoon, Newcastle, Guinness, etc.) The other side consisted predominantly of bombers and 750s. Cooler was not as strong. Lots of Sam, Brooklyn, DFH, Sierra, Smutty, Weyerbacher, Victory, Otter Creek, some Anchor, Blue Point, Gritty McDuffs, Oskar Blues, Left Hand and Sea Dog to name just a few. Opposite side consisted of a pretty good selection of Belgian/Belgian-styles and assorted bombers consisting of several globalbeer brews, as well as some germans, domestics and english. Had about 5 different types of Unibroue, Chimay, Gulden Draak, Rochefort, Orval, Duvel, a few Southen Tier, Jolly Pumpkin Noel de Calabaza, several Ommegang, Leffe, Lindemans, Westmalle, Piraat, Ayinger, Rogue, a few assorted Xmas brews (e.g Santa's Butt, Lump of Coal and many more), Allagash and a few Wychwood just to name a few. Prices were reasonable; some were higher and some lower than expected, but definitely in the ballpark. Word of caution; check the bottle dates. Many were dusty and some were past their prime. All and all though, worth stopping in if you are in the area.

A friend of mine used to live in Warwick, and this was the closest liquor store. At the time, I was just getting into microbrews so this place wasn't too bad. There was a decent selection of the standard stuff, and a small selection of the craft brews.
Unfortunately, no one who works there seems to have any idea. They're friendly enough, don't get me wrong, but they're not much help in beer selection.
The addition of a few beer nuts and a slight expansion of their micro selection would really help this store stand out. Their prices are pretty competetive, and it's a decent size store.

edit 3-22-09
a change in management here has brought about a good change here
increased quality to 4.0
increased service to 3.5
increased selection to 4.5
a large store with a lot of potential

Many years ago when this establishment was located in Appanoag, I would drive from Pawtucket to check out their selection. The help there then was knowledgable and interested in micros and imports, it was here that I purchased my first Shipyard "Export" . Since their move up to Lakewood I moved down to Warwick. The last several times that I was in there and asked beer question all I got was goofy looks and comments about how there is no margin in beer sales. The selection is good with some occasional highlights. But there is very little Belgian selection here, Chimay Red, Chimay Blue and if your not a purist the Ommegang line. I'm sorry this used to be a great place but now even with all the extra space quality beer is just a second class citzen here.

A clean, well organized store. Some New England micros, with just a bare bones selection at that. They do get some interesting special releases it this shop (Magic Hat, Newport Storm, & Harpoon). Not much available for imports. Staff is friendly & helpful, but not very knowledgable.

I defer to a friend who should know: he says this is about as good as any beer store on the rt. 95 swath through Little Rhody. At least it's the best I've seen in Warwick/Cranston.

Along with the seen-everywhere usual suspects, Newport Storm, Unibroue, Harpoon, Magic Hat, Ipswich, Buzzards Bay and a fine batch of British and Canadian selections fill the rear of the store. Items include the hard to find bombers and specialty brews of these brewers. Prices seemed more than reasonable, especially compared to the prices for specialty products on Providence's east side.

Not worth a special trip, but a credit to the region.
