As a homebrewer in a non metropolitan area, you generally have few choices when it comes to supplies. Yes, Slight Indulgence has the basics - introductory brewing equipment, one step, a small selection of hop pellets and malts / malt extracts - but if you want to take your home brew to the next level this is not your shop. I end up purchasing most of my supplies online. In terms of micro/macro brews, you can purchase singles in a make your own six pack at Slight Indulgence. The cost for singles is a bit pricey, but is sometimes worth it not having to commit to a full six pack with what you suspect may be a marginal beer. I will give JC and the rest of his family credit in that they are quite accommodating and more than willing to special order a six for you that can be aquired in WV (distributing rights and the 6% law limit what we can get our hands on). I would rate Slight Indulgence as adequate (at best) as a beer making supplier and average in terms of a beer shop.

I am new to home-brewing so I don't have a whole lot to compare this shop to.

The girl running the shop was not overly knowledgeable, but still helped me a lot (being a beginner). There is about 8' of wall space dedicated to home-brewing beer with overstock in the back and an additional 4' dedicated to wine. The rest of the store is craft beers, wine, chocolate and coffee. It was a cool little shop.

I wish the prices were a bit lower, but they are better than buying online when you factor in shipping costs. I am sure I will want to find some place with a bit more selection as I progress in my beer making journey, but for what I am doing, it's great.

Intended as a homebrew/wine store, they don't seem to have much variety when it comes to homebrewing. I haven't gotten into it yet, but I've noticed that they've basically got the bare essentials that one needs, some of them way too expensive. The beer selection is pretty decent, although it can be a bit pricey. They have a mix a six pack option, but their prices for some of the singles are insane. Single small bottles of Samuel Smith beer run around $4-5, while I could get the bottle that's twice the size for the same price in any of the other beer stores around. If you can find six beers that you like/want to try that only cost $2 each, it makes the purchase much easier.

I also get a very unwelcome vibe from the main woman who works in the store, she has been in both the downtown location and the other. I always come out of the place as if I should be guilty of being a college student or something, like I need to come into the place more dressed up to buy a six pack of beer. If the majority of what you sell also exists at a Kroger store in town, it's hard to market yourself as high end.

The customer service in this place is great. The employees are very helpful and they have probably the best Beer selection and fine foods selection in Morgantown. However their home brew supplies are very limited. Of course you can score yourself a couple of nice carboys there, some good racking equipment, and Beginner Coopers, or Muntons No Boil Pre-Hopped Extract kits but if you are brewing at the intermediate or advanced levels you can forget about it. The Prices are also a little outrageous.

If you don't want to drive to Pittsburgh or order home brewing items off of the internet, this is your best bet in Mtown. They don't have much, but it'll get you by.

The one nice thing I can say is that they have a beer selection that, while not huge, has a few things that you won't find anywhere else in Morgantown, such as St. Peters and a few German beers. A nice thing is that they sell singles, a bad thing is that the beer is a bit pricey. In fact everything in there is a bit pricey, but you're also not likely to find the items they sell anywhere else in town.

If you want brewing supplies, go to High Street. If you want a wider beer selection, go to their new store on the north side of town.

Side note: great wine and chocolate selection.

If you are counting on this place for your homebrew supplies, the hobby just isnt going to work for you.

The only thing positive that can be said is their selection of kits and hops are decent, otherwise, forgret it.

Imagine, a homebrew supply store without any base malt? If you have never seen one, check Slight Indulgence out. The specialty grain selection is quite week as well. As for the price on the supplies they do have, the only way I would buy is out of desperation....needed something in an emergency and this was the only outlet available.

It is obvious, they dont take the homebrewing sales seriously, so why do they bother in the first place?

In all fairness, their selection of wines and specialty coffee, candies and such is pretty good, but be prepared to open the wallet wide, you will spend more than you should.

There are now 2 locations- stick to the 1st on High Street for beer and homebrew items. Contains a diverse selection of beers that cannot be purchased anywhere else in Morgantown- but often the beer can be old and collecting dust on the shelves. Friendly service when it is available (hit and miss) and a reasonable price.

Some good beginning homebrewing books and equipment can be found at the High St. store. The best selection of imports that you can find in Morgantown (when it comes to home comsumption).

This is a nice little shop, but not exaclty well-focussed on the homebrewing. Maybe I'm just spoiled by the shops around me. They have some good brewing books on the shelves. The store seems to be more based on specialty foods and chocolates than on homebrewing. They have a decent selection of liquid malt extracts. The staff is not very knowledgable, but that was expected because of the small homebrewing area and the location right next to the college (mostly college students work there). This place is just up the street from the West Virginia Brewing Company too.

Quality: This varies I have seen beer past it's prime from their individual selection, they came some mediocre beers back their and at times there grain has been sitting for quite awhile so beware there are better ways to obtain some malted barley when brewing in Morgantown seek out the aid of the professional brewers in town at the WVBC. As far as keeping bottling equipment, bottles, any odds and ends needed for homebrewing this place is excellent. Decent library of beginner's homebrewing books, good wine selection, decent cigars in the humidor, great chocolates and other specialty foods much more than a homebrew store but it's better than nothing for the homebrewer residing in Morgantown, WV.
Service: At times very helpful not always knowledgeable unless your talking to the owner himself, very good guy considerate if you find a bad bottle of beer on the shelves. I have been in here looking for German food for my German class and been helped by the whole store. While other times it's taken twenty minutes for anybody to approach me while looking at the homebrewing equipment.
Selection: Very good for extracts and liquid yeast, as far as the specialty grains go find another source please. They carry the Lindeman's Lambic lineup and all of the Great Lakes stuff at good prices, I have also seen an occasional hefeweizen on the shelves. For WV this place is really trying for that I give them credit.
