If you have to drink the Mexican version of an American Adjunct Lager, this is about as good as it gets. If you can get it in the can, even better. Typically my go to beer at Mexican restaurants.

This is a nice clean refreshing brew, perfect for cheladas or with a slice of lime. Ive never been to Mexico, but I don't think the weather lends itself to 7% abv microbrews. I prefer this to american light beers, and is a good choice when the humidity and temperatures soar.

A standout for the type.

This one has flavor. I can taste hops and malt, balance is good as are the flavors. Don't trust the bottles though, only buy the cans and only on sale.

Recommended, it's not just for breakfast.

Not good, Not good, Not good at alll . . . . I honestly wasn't expecting much here but I do sometimes enjoy a decent easy drinking adjunct lager. A little skunyness with a crisp finish can be nice sometimes. This beer however doesn't seem very well put together and is similar to Bud light. As a matter of opinion it's the Mexican example.

Yellow beer with a small 2/5" head that vanishes quickly. Corny aroma, but other than that, pretty bland and inoffensive.

Taste, highly carbonated fizzy yellow beer. Not much in terms of hops, malt or yeast flavors. Highly priced for not having much to it.

Just one of those super light watered down beers.

From can, pours pale golden with a good fluffy white head that quickly dissipates. Aroma a slightly grain smell very little else. Taste corn, grain, grass, malt. Very clean and refreshing.

My choice last night in a restaurant in St Helier, Jersey. Clear yellow beer with a thin white head. The aroma is fresh with herbs and faintly of hops & some bitterness. Taste is sweet, grainy & light, with a mild bitterness in the finish.

1/28/16 Chicago (355ml bottle poured into pint glass).Blonde clear pour, quickly disappearing white head, minimal carbonation. No aroma, minimal corn and watery taste, easy going down, minimal texture. Not especial.

This is my favorite light beer to drink with Mexican food. Looks like a good quality light beer. Not much aroma but the taste is good without even coming close to getting in the way of the flavors of whatever Mexican food I choose to eat. Mouth feel is light with a quick finish. Overall it is nothing special on its own but it's exactly what I want out of this type of beer.

From the can, it pours a a moderate golden amber with a moderate head, quickly dissipating. Grain in the nose. Grain in the mouth, pleasant and not bitter. Good on a hot day, which this is not. Acceptable.

Another decent Mexican lager. Color is straw. Smelled corn and other adjuncts. Taste was pretty good. Very carbonated with the carbonation stinging my tongue. Props for the gold foil on the bottle.

I purchased a 24 oz. can of this from a Kwik Trip gas station. This beer pours a golden hue with a moderate head that dissipates quickly into a small amount of lacing. There is a good deal of carbonation present. The scent of this beer does not reveal all that much, mostly just corn. The taste brings out hints of corn and grains. There is a bit of a harsh bitterness at the end of this. Overall I would say this is a decent beer.

I don't get it really. It's fairly pricey for a beer that isn't special. There really isn't anything special about it. Tastes like a cheap beer. Expected a little more but I guess if you're looking for the "Budweiser" of Mexico you got it. Wouldn't buy again but wouldn't turn it down.

Look at all the complainers on here weeping about the quality of Mexican water and how Mexican beers aren't worth the packaging they're put in. Why are beers like this still reviewed as if they are craft brews from an obscure micro-brewery that only uses ingredients pertaining to a 400 hundred year tradition? This is a mass produced corn beer and it's a respectable one, too. It's got some hints of citrus, a good, creamy feel to it, the color is relatively attractive and the carbonation isn't overdone.

If you wanted a good beer, this is a good choice. Ignore the beer snobs who say otherwise. If you can get this at a decent price, you won't be disappointed. That is, if you go into drinking it knowing what it is and what it isn't. Modelo is a great alternative to Corona and is a fantastic beer to relax in the sun with.

Most people who know me well, know that it is rare for me to but a Mexican beer. This is due to the fact that the water in Mexico is as clean as cat urine. Modelo is no exception. This beer fits well if one is trying to throw back a hot dog while bowling. Overall, the feel of the bottle is its best attribute. It fits well in your hand and makes a great projectile to throw onto the field if one's baseball team has just committed the unpardonable sin. Overall I can't even give Modelo a respectable belch.

This seems to be a popular Mexican beer, but for some reason it doesn't sit well with me. There not much smell to it, and it is kind of dry/bland. It is ok if you want to make a Michelada, but alone, I am not a fan.

A good summer evening brew that is refreshing yet flavourful. Packing a bit more colour and taste than Corona. Not a lot of froth or bubbles, but otherwise, a thumbs up for a dinner accompaniment.

355 ml clear bottle served cold into a pint glass. Advertised as 4.5% ABV for the Canadian market. Cost was $2 CDN and purchased from LCBO.

Appearance - pale golden coloured beer with minimal carbonation. Tiny quarter finger of head, that is extinguished very quickly.

Smell - light grain aromas, a light vegetative aroma lies underneath, but there's nothing off putting here.

Taste - clean and finished flavor, light graininess that just kind of sticks around until it's run it's course. Not much malt and watery, but it just works.

Mouthfeel - carbonation is just right for the beer, light body and very easy to drink.

Overall - a surprisingly enjoyable AAL. Plain and simple with no frills attached, this is easy drinking lawnmower beer at its best. Absolutely no off flavours and comes highly recommended especially as far as this style goes.

Purchased at the LCBO as a single. Served at 4deg C in a draught glass

A- Opens well and pours a 1/2" high white head that was gone before the glass hit the table. Mighty disappointing. Medium to light gold colour.

S- Not much here at all.

T- This is a corn beer plain and simple. Must say it's a pretty good corn brew though. Puts Corona to shame actually. At this one has some good body and malt backbone. Yes it corn, no it's not simple.

M- Dry and like a really heavy Corona.

O- Not that bad. It's a Corona with some serious body and flavor. Nice exception to the standard corn brew

Food Pairing

This pretty nice little corn brew went well with....... Baked beans. Nice baked beans with salt pork, molasses and maple syrup. Dice some onion, add some brown sugar and you got a winner!

Enjoy

It's been a while since I reviewd a macro lager. This one is okay.....deep gold in color with a thin head. From a can, it has a grain and grass aroma. The taste is slightly sweet. No real malt or hop flavor. Crisp, and clean, but thin.

Taking a look at the Canadian version, which ups the ABV to 4.5%.

What shocked me is that I actually, actively enjoyed this beer. Sipping it from the bottle, I commented to my girlfriend, "Damn--this is what Corona would taste like if Corona was actually any good."

And I stand by that assessment: it's got a decent malt backbone, crisp, not overly sweet, and a surprising amount of body and substance for such a low ABV. Decent hop aromatics, even if not a lot of bitterness or hop character comes through in the taste. It's not a great beer, but it's really an enjoyable one--especially straight from the bottle, and especially on a hot, sunny day. Only recently available in Canada, I am actually pretty happy it's made its way here.

Golden yellow in color with good clarity. Poured with a short, dense, creamy, bright white foam with very good retention. Light grainy and green apple aromas. No hop aromas. Medium light bodied with a creamy smooth feel and aggressive carbonation. Medium-light grainy malt flavor up front followed by light hop bitterness and green apple flavors to the end. No hop flavors. Finished with a lingering stale graininess and green apple flavor. Despite its recent popularity, this beer lacks the clean, crisp finish of an American lager. The lingering aftertaste puts a dent in the drinkability that is a hallmark of this style.

12 oz. can into a pint glass

A - Clear straw in color with moderate carbonation. Head is very thin and disappears very quickly. Ever so slight lacing remains. 2.5/5

S - Aroma is very focused on corn and light malt. I also get a floral note from the hops. Somewhat sweet smelling. 3/5

T - Cooked corn sweetness with a bit of graininess from the light malt. Ever so slight white bread note. Hops seem to remain floral here as well. Much sweeter than most in this category of beer. 3/5

M - Light bodied but with only moderate carbonation tickle. Ever so slight creaminess. No drying astringency but does disappear from the palate quickly. 2.75/5

O - Good beer for a hot day, especially served ice cold. Surprisingly sweet for this category which is a nice change. Simple and straightforward beer. 3/5

I mix all me beers with a splash of bloody mary mix. This one is quite delicious! Haven't really tried it alone, but from what I can taste it's similar to a light beer in flavor.

I'd drink this again. It's got a crystal slightly citrus feel going on that's better than most mass mex.

A: The beer is clear amberish, darker yellow with plenty of initial head, carb, and dotty lace for a mass beer. Already it's better looking that others.
S: Unremarkable, but fresh aromas of corn and grainy malts, with a hint of citrus hop.
T: The taste follows the smell with a cleaner less cloying grain feel, than most mass and enough hop bitterness to satisfy. No need for a lime as A Brothers wrote.
M: Light but not thin w moderate carbonation. Refreshing finish.
O: Bring it on... the best of beers in the style?

Makes a great lemonade shanty, or gets better if blended with Dales Pale Ale, the result is a cheaper, lighter, summery Pale Ale.
