It pours a crystal clear, surprisingly flashy golden yellow. A finger of bright white, pithy head sinks to mere traces. Lacing is thin but plentiful.
The aroma is especially sparse, giving up only intimations of pale malt, hop spice, and a lash of yeastiness. Luckily the sulfur and adjunct notes are mere hints as well.
Upon tasting, the malt is slightly sweet and pale as expected, and the slightest biscuit note presages a peppery hop element. Corn and yeast divvy up the middle, and the finish turns very crisp, dry, and moderately bitter, but very briefly. All in all, just as expected of the style, if a tick above average.
Light bodied, it flows by in a flash, but the carbonation does kick things into at least a low gear.
On its own, its really nothing more than any other Mexican cerveza, with all that implies. to be fair, though, it was only a little overmatched as a buddy to a Fat Alex burrito (roughly the size of the average NFL lineman's head), steak taco, and steak tostada. So it has that going for it, but honestly, the house margarita was more enjoyable. So it's drinkable, because it's so light across the board. But rest assured, any future Modelo indulgences will be of the Negro, not this one.
