I love Modelo Especial! Hands down my favorite beer. Forget Corona. Leave it to the spring breakers in Cancun. When you are looking for a nice Mexican beer that is easy to drink, quenches your thirst, and reminds of you sunnier days then this is your beer!
MMMM... I wish I had one right now!

the original "bull´s ball" huevo de toro, is very popular in my city over any brands of its rival brewery, but in general is exceptional for a party time, buddies reunion, smell fabulous, taste exceptional, like a real german lager beer, grupo model brewer of this beer had a lot of beer most are german or european styles, for many drinkers this is good, every brands have its drinkers.

If you like mexican beers, this is a fantastic, light mexican brew. Would strongly recommend to anyone. The second I open this beer it reminds me of the Cancun sun. If you dont like this beer, then you just dont appreciate the flavor a mexican beer. Viva Mexico, Viva Modelo

My favorite brew from south of the border. The neglected little brother of Negro Modelo, Modelo Especial, is an exceptional crisp clean summer beer. And forget man laws, a lime is a need addition. Often less expensive then the corporate mogul corona; this beer is a better substitute for august days and mowing lawns or should I say " para cortando el cesped"

CLear, with a considerably foam. BUt it is a lager after all, a little bitter sometimes, not for a party or a football match reunion, but it can give you a good time in a chat. PErhaps the best beer of this brewery even better than Corona, well, you know.

Bought with lunch at a local Mexican restaurant...served chilled in a can along with a frosted glass. I started drinking out of the can, and then poured into the glass after the chill left.

A=Very nice, darker golden...very good for the style. Only a bit of a head.

S=I don't remember smelling much, other than a faint whiff of hops...no corn smell.

T=For the style, this is much better than Corona, Bud, and most other BMC's--sturdy maltiness with moderate hopping, and not too sweet. Still a bit less flavorful than, say, Batch 19.

M=Moderate body...perhaps a bit too much carbonation, but not overpowering.

O=For an AAL, it is hard to do much better...would like to see more body and flavor, but a good representation for a session beer...I would like to try on tap.

First of all this beer is better then that piss corona!

Pours golden, nice finish...

I prefer a lime, goes great with fried foods!

Definitely not the best mexican beer but not the worst.
I could go on and on about this beer but it looks like everbody is saying the same thing! Try it if you haven't had it though!

Appearance: Looks a lot like Pacífico...darker than Corona. Some head retention and carbonation.

Smell: Smells pretty malty and that's about it. Refreshing, but wish it had more bite/crispness.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Above average taste for this style. The malt surpasses any other tastes, but does not overwhelm. Nice crisp refreshness.

Drinkability: I could easily enjoy a few of these with a meal.

Overall: In my opinion, no beer goes better with Mexican food than Modelo Especial. Thumbs up.

The familiar smell of Mexican lager - somewhat hoppy, with a good helping of adjunct grains. For whatever reason I've always liked the smell, so it gets solid points in that category. Pours golden into a pint glass with about an inch of almost yellowish white head, medium bubbles, that fizzes all the way down leaving no lace in about 30 seconds. Dark enough that it looks like real beer, but the fizz leaves no question that it's going to be on the lighter crisper side.

Taste as expected is light and crisp, with a malty aftertaste that sticks around for a while. Actually a little bit of hoppiness that comes out after a while as well. It's not a work of art, but it absolutely gets the job done as a refreshing summer beer. You could swig it down in quantity if you wanted to as well. This one gets solid marks across the board.

This is one of my favorite Mexican brews. More body and taste than some of the others that are mass marketed. Very good mouth appeal and good aftertaste. A lighter beer than the Negra making it easier to drink. This is the perfect beer for those who are having a cookout in the summer and want to have more than one or two.

It goes down smooth and is a very tastey thirst quencher.

Yum.

This is the best Mexican beer hands down. It's best from a bottle but then you risk it being spoiled and it has that foil around the top. Appearance and smell is very typical of a Mexican lager but the taste is much better. The mouthfeel is much more substantial. It's tastes like it has a bit of honey in it. This the perfect beer for drinking outside in the summer or on a beach in Mexico.

(This review is of the Oklahoma 3.2% ABW (4.0% ABV) version sold in grocery stores, tasting it from a bottle poured into a glass)

I had very low expectations (with the exception of Negro Modelo and Bohemia, most Mexican beers are lackluster) but was quite surprised by how good this beer was.

Aroma was slight but the flavor was surprisingly malty and dry. It reminds me a tiny bit of a lighter version of Fat Tire. Lots of carbonation. Lingering malty after taste.

More than a typical adjunct lager. Pours a clear straw color with a large white head that had very good retention. The head slowly settles to a thick cap. Moderate amount of sticky lacing is left on the glass. Stuck my nose in the glass and was treated with more than a grainy aroma. Hops, I smell hops. Hints of lemons and flowers. Also has a flavor that is impressive for the style. Enough hop flavor to mask the adjuncts. Slightly sweet malt flavor. Bitterness is low. Does not finish as clean and crisp as most BMC beers but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Nothing really stood out in the body except it did not seem as overly carbonated as other similar beers. The only reason I bought this beer was because it was available in cans and attractively priced. One of the better Mexican lagers.

I have to rate this better than mainstream beers and most Mexican beers. This has pretty decent quality. It is a medium golden with a thick head and big bubbles. Aroma is a mellow maltiness and maybe, just maybe some mild hops. THis has a clean maltiness that's not too sweet and slightly curbed with some bittering hops. Refreshing but not too light. The mouthfeel and taste compliment each other. THis is easy drinking, pleasant and pretty good quality.

I had a 12 oz. bottle of this at my favorite local Mexican restaurant last night. No freshness date seen.

A: Poured crystal clear gold with little carbonation and a very thin fizzy head that disappeared within seconds. No lacing was left.

S: The smell was really pretty thin - some hints and mild hops and sweet malt - clean an easy.

T/M: It was light bodied and fairly well-balanced. Some sweet malt and mild hops and plenty of water - though the water was not too prominent for the style. A touch of salt picked up as well. Not too bad of a taste from a macro lager from Mexico.

I think this is a great beer to enjoy Mexican food with. Whenever I eat ethnic foods, I try and drink the beer from their country. This was a good example for it's style - simple, clean and refreshing.

I have had this many times...

Pour/Appearance: Golden straw colour with a 2 inch foamy white head which lasted about 5 minutes ( American Pint Glass).

Smell: Modelo smelled like your typical lager...grassy and grainy, not to much going on but a pleasant clean smell, think hayfield after a fall cut.

Taste: Modelo tastes like a lager! A bit more bite (i'm guessing hops) than a BMCs and taste how it smells, very much like grass. Very clean flavour with very little after taste. Not much malt going on.

Mouthfeel: Very carbonated but washes nachos down very well!

Drinkability: Excellent, very good spicy food beer!

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Added a slice of lime at the recommendation of a friend.

A: Nice golden bronze color -- very little head retention. Actually the white lacing disappeared after a few seconds, giving way to medium to large bubbles (might have been a pouring error on my part...).

S: The lime obviously covers up most of the smell. Before adding it, the beer gave off a rather dusty, dirty grass aroma. It wasn't negative, but clearly covers up any hops or malt that are present. Not really sure if the lime is necessary...

T&M: Great taste -- excellent balance between being overly sweet and bitter. The lime is present, but I almost tasted warm corn husks or tortillas in the beer. Light and crisp, with layers of complexity, this is very user friendly with nice carbonation and a finish that lasts for half a minute or so.

D: Excellent lager. Much better for the money that Corona or Pacifico. I'd recommend someone to try it without the lime, and if they feel compelled to add fruit -- just a little will do. This beer can stand upright on its own, and makes a wonderful addition to traditional Mexican cuisine. I prefer it with lightly salted avocado halves. Definitely a go-to-beer for Cinco de Mayo.

24 ounces of canned glory pours into my glass. Straw in color, quite fizzy, loads of percolation. Slightest amount of retention, but there is a touch, with light lace. Nose has a bit of apple, a bit of hop bitterness is present, only a bit of plastic. Pretty good smell for an adjunct lager, it does have a smell and it isn't even exactly offensive.

Flavor has some malt sweetness to it and some pretty well balanced hops too. A bit of plastic flavor on the midpalate and in the finish, but it is largely missable, making this a fairly well done adjunct lager. Honestly one of the better adjunct lagers out there, though on the more expensive side for a style that encompassing various types of swill. Feels pretty light, probably because of the high carbonation, though it stays prickly and not foamy. If you're going to drink swill, this is a pretty good choice.

This is the first macro lager I've reviewed here. I feel that my experience with this one was so good I had better put in a good word. I'm working landscaping with three mexicanos. after 8 hours of weeding in 90 degree humidity, Nazario, the crew chief, came down to where I was with a couple cans of the 'Special Model' and we talked about shit. It ruled. I was evry thirsty and this beer did me right. There is more about beer than what's in the can.

I couldn't see the beer because I drank it out of the can so I gave it a three.

Didn't really smell it.

Tasted better than your average swill. Perfect on a hot day. Very Very refreshing.

Very very drinkable today. I could have sat con Conejo, David, y Nazario todos del noche.

A: Crystal clear light gold color, not too much head and didn't stay very long. Not that much lacing on the glass either.

S: I'm horrible with the smells but I'd have to say there is something fruity in there.

T: Very smooth but there was nothing special about the taste, just kind of plain, not overly sweet or bitter.

M: Feels fine, could use slightly more carbonation but is really smooth.

D: Goes down really smooth and isn't too heavy so I could definitely drink a lot.

Day four in Mexico! YEAH !!!

A: Pours a nice golden color with nice lacing.

S: Hints of hops and light malts, notes of lemon. (I never put lime or other fruits in beer as they disrupt the natural flavors, and if you have to disguise the taste why not drink something else)

T: Nice even taste of hops and maltsalways as good as I hope it will be.

M: medium to heavy bodied lightly carbed with a touch of floral in the end of swallow.

D: Always a good choice to make.

24 oz can into bicentennial Mason jar.

A: Big Big white head that sticks around pretty good for this type of beer. Left really good lacing on my jar as well. I was really impressed by what came out of this big white can.

S: malts and grains maybe hints of Granny Smith apples here and there.

T: Pretty good especially from the can. Nice mellow malt and apple flavors that end dry. This beer doesn't have that Macro metallic taste either that i get so often from big-market lagers.

M: Just about right for this type of beer. I need some chicken and chorizo tacos with habanero salsa.

D: I could down this by the gallon if you kept the habanero salsa coming. Ole amiga with the big butt!

Poured a 12oz can into my Indiana Jones pint glass.

The appearance is pretty golden yellow for this Mexican brew. For an adjunct lager, there's quite an impressive amount of character and head retention to it. Overall, it's a nice looking beer.

Smell was pretty average for a lager, but in general it didn't have a strong corn/barley smell. Nonetheless it wasn't eye opening, but it came off appealing for the beer itself.

Taste was refreshing. Very smooth palette consumed the entire brew from start to finish.

Mouthfeel as mentioned was very smooth. From the first sip to the last this stuff certainly went down a lot smoother than most regular lagers. It still retained the full flavor on the way down as well.

Drinkability is pretty top notch. A case of this will make anyone happy on any given night. This is also a great social beer or a good import to introduce to people who are not so familiar to foreign beers. Definitely a party favorite!
