Outside of this being a craft beer, I would choose this over a Corona at a bar. Easy drinking, little to no taste. Mexican water?

Modelo Especial. Here in Canada it is 4,5% ABV

So the look of it: Very light, Yellow clear golden color. With lots of carbonation

The smell of it: Corny, grassy sweetness. Much more Aroma than the Corona. But from a clear bottle what can you expect...

The taste of it: Very light, feels the same than the Corona but have more Aroma, the finish is very clean. Corny, sweet, goes down very easy.

So overall would I recommend it? Sure, between a Corona and a Modelo I wold take the Modelo. It have more Aroma and the for me I find the bottle very Original. Yeah for this summer on the beach I will go for the Modelo

Glass Bottle. Ice cold. Refreshing but tasteless with dry, abrupt lack of aftertaste.

Slightly amber gold. Very clear with steady stream of bubbles rising from the bottom of pilsner glass. Low retention off white head. Bready, grainy nose with small lemon notes that quickly give way to sweeter esters. Very grainy up front. Adjunct sweetness and a bit skunky in the back. Bread and the lightest hop bitterness in the aftertaste. Quite sudsy, a little prickly, with decently crisp finish. Fuller end of light-bodied. Not bad for an adjunct lager, but nowhere even close in terms of quality or appeal to Negra Modelo.

Aroma: slight grainy, light sweetness, no hop, slight apple, not a lot of aroma. Appearance: Brilliant straw, white fluffy quickly dissipating head leaving traces of delicate lace, Flavor: grain, slight apple, light, a little light fruit, no hop, very low malt, a little apple in the after taste. Mouthfeel: Highly carbonated – more so than the Grain Belt and it makes a difference giving a carbonation bight that adds to the refreshing qualities, light body. Overall Impression: Very light – its most distinguishing feature is its lack of distinction.

if your looking for a Mexican beer that is not the American beer modeled after a Mexican beer, or lets just say Corona; Modelo is a good alternative.

About the only thing that I can do is to compare this to Corona, so here goes:

It smells better (which is NOT hard) and it has a better body than Corona. On the down side, it is more corny than Corona (yep, that's a negative).

From carrefour. Playing KB Dark Side, in Legado de Yuste glass. Neutral beer. It doesnt taste nor smell to anything, nor good nor bad. However, my wife likes it and thinks its one of the best beers she has ever tasted (she doesnt like beer much)

Fairly heavy on the wet cardboard and corn syrup, but not at all bad squaring off vs. rivals. Decent option at a Mexican restaurant.

Good beer to throw down on a hot day in an attempt to hydrate. Smells like nothing, taste is almost non existent, feel is like water.

Lagers get low scores for there lack of complexity. But this has body and flavor and maintains the lagers drinkability. It's refreshing and satisfying.

Poured from a can. Golden yellow and transparent with a decent white head. Plain aroma, nose didn't pick up much. Taste is a mix of bitterness and sugar. A little sweeter than expected. Average mouthfeel. Aftertaste left little more to be desired.

This Beer Surprised Me

First of all, I was surprised when the waiter brought it to me. I had ordered a Negra Modelo. He brought me Modelo Especial. I don't like to make a big fuss especially with the man who is going to be delivering my food so I went with the flow.

Second, I was surprised that I liked this beer. It's a beautiful clear golden color with a little bit of a head on top. It has a nice summertime taste and a smooth feel. This is the type of beer that you want when you're sitting at a Mexican beach resort or on your deck in the summertime. It's not heavy; it was a good taste; and it doesn't have a high level of alcohol so you can have a few without getting buzzed (although some people consider this a bad thing, but when the surf's up, you want to be ready to go).

Overall, it's a decent but not spectacular warm weather thirst quencher.

Of the Mexican beers, I rate Dos Equis higher and also Negra Modelo is better to me. Not a bad beer, but I won't buy it over the others.
